Here are some excellent ideas for introducing various tempo and rhythmic patters to students of grade levels K through 5. The examples go over steady beats, eighth not patterns, and dynamic changes of loud and soft. The first few examples do not specify grade levels but the later examples do. The grade levels are highlighted in yellow.

Although several lines of research (e.g., deliberate practice, mental practice, modeling, self-regulation) have begun to show links between general practicing approaches and achievement, relatively little is known about which specific behaviors are most effective in eliciting performance gains. Information regarding which behaviors are beneficial to school-age musicians is especially needed, given their often limited formal training and the scarcity of studies with this population. The purpose of this study was to examine relationships among observed practice behaviors, self-reported practice habits, and the performance achievement of high school wind players.

In general, the results of this study have shown that the quality of practicing that takes place may be more crucial to improvement than the quantity of time spent playing.

Flat is a full-featured online music notation tool. The product has commercial and educational versions. The educational version has teacher administrative controls and allows an educator to integrate Flat into common learning management services including Google Classroom and Canvas. This website is a music writing software that can be used online as well as offline. The layout of the program is simple to navigate and grasp. Students can easily learn how to arrange or create compositions here. Collaboration on projects is simple. Projects can be shared with one another.
