This collection includes engraved first editions of manuscripts by Johannes Sebastian Bach; an autographed letter from Ludwig van Beethoven; a copy of Beethoven's 9th Symphony - with his own annotations - that may have been used in the symphony's very first performance; and a signed holograph by Claude Debussy. Visitors to this website can search for manuscripts by composer. This site contains an audio example along with a viewable example of the lead sheet (in most cases). This is a fantastic resource for jazz students.

The purpose of this website is to provide a list of free jazz sheet music in the keys of Bb, Eb, and bass clef from the "Real Book". The content lists songs from A to Z which provide an audio recording link for each without any ads. Students can use this site to play along with the sheet music and accompaniment provided. It would make a great practice tool in addition to method book material for students of all ages. The author of the site also promotes a "my music apps" page for beginner and experienced musicians.

I use tis online metronome in my rehearsals almost every day. Since it is web-based, students can use this for individual or group practice without any additional apps or hardware.

This is a great website for building a WebQuest. In addition, teachers can share, comment on, and build upon each others web quests.  

8notes.com provides an incredible variety of free and subscription based printable music for instrumentalists and vocalists. The site categorizes the music by instrument, composer, level of difficulty, etc. This is a great resource to share with students who are looking for solo or ensemble repertoire ideas, in addition to rock/pop, jazz, and world music selections for personal enrichment and entertainment purposes.

Vic Firth's education resources include videos on all things percussion related.  There are video and audio clips regarding beginning snare drum/mallets, drum set, rudiments, concert percussion, and marching/world percussion.  This is a great resource for teachers and students.

Purpose of this resource: This website contains many educational videos, articles, and resources for educators and students about percussion playing technique and history. Musical Content: The Vic Firth Educator page contains fundamental playing technique for snare drum, keyboard percussion and drum set as well as demonstration videos, articles, and sequential playing exercises. There are also videos about instrument set up and maintenance. Other information: The resources on this page are geared toward both educator and student. Many of the music reading articles and exercises are also applicable to non-percussionists and can be readily adapted for classroom use.

Aside from quality percussion equipment, Vic Firth provides a wealth of information on percussion education. The site includes videos, articles, and pdf's of exercises as well if needed.

This website is an important one for Florida band directors to have book marked. The Florida Bandmasters Association provides a variety of educational experiences for students including performance evaluations and honor band experiences. In addition, FBA is a community of educators who support each other by helping each other to grow professionally. The FBA website provides a "best practices" section as well as articles and other resources that are helpful for band directors as they seek to improve their skills.

This Jazz Transcriptions site not only houses many jazz transcriptions for all instrument, but it provides links to other transcription sites for additional material.  Students can access these transcriptions to practice jazz, sight reading, and for analyzing jazz theory.  I use jazz when practicing sight reading due to the added difficulty of syncopated rhythms and accidentals.

The FAME website provides information on the pedagogical approach advocated by John Feierabend, lesson resources, FAQ's, as well as locations for trainings and additional publications. There are thorough explanations on the First Steps in Music and Conversational Solfege curricula developed by Dr. Feierabend for those who want to learn more or want to advocate for his methodology. A thorough explanation of the musical content and learning objectives (tuneful, beatful, artful) are also available. A podcast hosted by Dr. Feierabend himself is available to members. Some services, like teacher resources, are also only available to members but have incredibly valuable.

Audacity is an audio editing tool used to alter recordings and export them into various formats. Used as an educational tool students are able to record, edit, and add digital effects to recordings to remix or compose creative musical products. Music educators may also find it valuable for editing recordings of performances or demonstrating the properties of sound. MusicTheory.net is a great website to teach theory to students. It has lessons on a variety of topics, interactive exercises to support the theory topics, and tools that could be used in conjunction with other activities in the classroom. There are also apps available for devices. The best part is that the exercises can be customized (scroll down to the bottom of the exercise or tools pages) with a permanent link so that students can take quizzes or have additional practice for specifics without having to change the settings for themselves. For example, note identification can be customized to the clef and range of a specific instrument and sent to those students for practice or quizzes.

I'm a Choir Director: With close to 25,000 members, this is the largest group that I am a member of on Facebook. I highly recommend joining this group, even if you strictly teach instrumental music as I do, for the great shared content (updates in the vocal world and additional resources).
