Jazz History Online is committed to covering the finest in jazz history past and present. All of the writers are also working jazz musicians, and use their experience to discuss jazz in a manner that is accessible to both musicians and laymen.

His four-part lecture dives into the history of jazz and the most important moments of jazz history. The first lecture centers around the origins of jazz in the African-American experience of slavery to the civil rights movement. This lecture explores the development of repertoire and techniques used in jazz performance. The second lecture discusses the techniques and traditions of jazz improvisation. The third lecture discusses the evolution of swing and rhythm/harmony with the inclusion of examples by a piano. The fourth lecture discusses the role of jazz in American culture and history, as well as the impact it has had on the world.

Radio website that allows several customization options for the style of jazz you are interested in.  These styles are even organized by instrument which is great for students to pick our repertoire that is standard for their instrument.

This is a website that uses videos and games to teach students about jazz and instrument identification. Is definitely geared toward younger students, probably in a general music setting. However, I could see it being used with middle school jazz band students as well.

This website offers an enormous quantity of material propaedeutical to learning jazz music and all its different aspects. Scales, ear training, chords, chord progressions, chord substitutions, jazz repertoire. A premium membership is available in order to access upgraded features.

This Jazz Transcriptions site not only houses many jazz transcriptions for all instrument, but it provides links to other transcription sites for additional material.  Students can access these transcriptions to practice jazz, sight reading, and for analyzing jazz theory.  I use jazz when practicing sight reading due to the added difficulty of syncopated rhythms and accidentals.

Tim Price provides free lessons on jazz improvisation, theory, and technique.  These lessons can translate to any instrument and provides a variety of topics for the beginning and advanced jazz player to digest.  The music can be opened in pdf form and printed for personal use.  I have used these exercises when teaching jazz theory and technique and is a great resource for jazz students
