This is video is generally about the time perception of people and its effects on human life. The first five minutes give background info, then it talks about the effects of time perception on educational processes. I found it very interesting, I hope will, too.

There are so many interesting metaphors. I liked them. The associations between educational concepts and time perception are very interesting in this video.

Songs have been prepared by STRCT(TÜBİTAK) to make students love schools. These are very intersting songs which are prepared according to the neccessities of the current times.

It is suprising to see that reputable universities set high standards for applicants, more exams to pass before entering. In Turkey, it is perceived as a success and indicator of giving great importance to establish at least a university in each city around the country. The quality of education should not be measured with the number of universities or the number of university graduates. The credentials of that graduates are far away important.

I totally agree with you. In recent years many universities were opened in Turkey. Most of them do not have any academic people to instruct the new students. It is not a sign of success for Turkey to have "many" but "unqualified" universities. Our unemployment rate is very high when compared to other countries in the world. So what is the logic for opening so many universities?

This blog belongs to one of my frineds doing his M.A. degree on Curriculum and Instruction in Istanbul University. The critique totally belongs to him. 

Science fields do not seem famous any more.

The important point in this case is that only girls who study for A-level physics are the ones who came from Girls' schools. It means that as the text stated, mix schools have a kind of characteristic that stereotype the physics as if it was boys' area. However, in my opinion, that's not true. Unless a job does not require so much muscles, it can be handled by both males and females. In physics, the brain, intelligence, and the disciplined work is necessary which are highly available in human beings, not just only in males.

This is one of Dembo's book about motivation and learning strategies for college success. I wish I found the book earlier in the beginning of my undergraduate degree :). Nonetheless, I think it can be still useful for future academic career.

I wish we could add our contents in ocw@metu.edu.tr to their database. For education, the website has only 3 courses. I signed up for the course "Fundamentals of Online Education: Planning and Application" and "E-learning and Digital Cultures" which will be held on Jan 28th 2013 :). I will write here what I have learned from the courses. I think it will be an interesting experience to reach knowledge about "online education" via online education :)

Erdem, great to hear that you are signed up for MOOCs. I will be curious to hear from your learning experiences in these courses.

The interaction between the student and the teacher should be manipulated according to the content of the lesson, objectives, materials and instruments as shown in the video. Making the class more engaging requires effective conversation and good communication between the teacher and student.

This is a good way forcreating active learning enviroment. Also it includes more alternatives like individual or group working. But it seems good for small class size.

A friend of mine has been in Finland as a teacher. I will share the anecdote she told us. While she was in her first weeks, she gave homework since it is holiday tomorrow, I think she exaggerated the giving homework. Classroom teacher came near to her and said Seçil, what are you doing? Tomorrow is holiday, they need to rest. That's why I am very interested in.
