I underline every word that Gamze used for her interpretation of the course. May be we can continue posting interesting stuff here. Besides, members of the group might be increased by giving membership to new comers of the course without unregistration of old members, if grading track of new comers would not be difficult, of course.

I ran accross the entry below while roaming one of the online dictionaries (itu, eksi, uludag etc.). A teacher shared one of his student's message to the teacher:

    sdfsdfds
    92 aldı.

Here I realized that even if 92 is a really satisfactory score, the student deliberately emphasized the score 100 so that the teacher gives him/her 100 even if s/he did not deserve. In humanistic learning environments that we have discussed earlier, students appreciate their selves as they are, and they are happy with their abilities and skills. They are not afraid of doing mistakes. On the contrary, they see mistakes as opportunities to improve their selves. In addition, in humanistic classrooms, students work cooperatively. There is collaboration rather than competition. We can understand from the sentences of this child that the school environment that s/he is in seems to be competitive, and the grade 92 is not enough for making s/he happy and feel satisfied. Being satisfied as a person is the key step for proceeding. Unhappy individuals may not find enough motivation to go forward. If this child thinks like "I prayed and prayed, I even studied in breaks, I mailed to teacher even, but still I could not get 100. It means that I am not successful at all.", and does not learn that 92 is a really satisfactory result, s/he might not study hard for the next exam. In short, we should make them aware of their exact potential, and be happy and satisfied what they have.

Constructivism with Second Life Island Project - 1 views

  •
Here is my constructivist environment example. In the past, I installed the second life software considering that it was a game. I roamed and roamed in worlds that already were created, chatted with people in another countries with my avatar. Then I thought that it was boring. It was just like sitting on Sunshine and talking with friends. Why I had to do this via my computer? This video shows us how Second Life Worlds can be used to create constructivist learning environments. In the video, a Second Life World that was prepared by a group of people called TELLS TEAM is presented. In this world, you can attend lectures, have group meetings for discussion, work on simulations and role plays whereever you are. All participants including the teacher has an avatar and walking, sitting, chatting as if they were in the same room. In this project, learners are active participants. They roam, talk, immediately can fly to role playing sessions and etc. Teacher is only responsible to present initial knowledge. I could not find how they evaluate the learners. However, it is up to you. This environment is just a tool. You can arrange your role plays, your simulations, and also your assesment. Also they have some guides to use the environment effectively on this web site: https://sites.google.com/site/secondlifeuwnshss/Home

The link to the pool that has been prepared for technology based educational materials for FATİH project. In this pool, teachers and students can send several educational materials that they created or they were using in classroom environment. They aim to extend the content with contributions of people who are actively in education in Turkey. However, it is obvious that the project needs professional e-content materials. Videos, pdf's are ok but multimedia based tools are needed.
  •
Canan, I hope it will help, thank you, Hocam, there are just materials in the pool. I downloaded 10th grade math teacher guidelines released by Ministry of Education and started to read some sections. I saw that they offer recommendations like "using a dynamic math software, students do...". However, I don't know if they will handle the learning and usage of such software in in-service trainings. I wish I could bring more information about the system but they have not answered my CV and my sample work yet,

I found this website while looking at Dr. Ana Paula Correia's several work. The website includes lots of technologies that can be used for educational purposes. It looks like an inventory that you can use for enriching your education with technology. One suggestion is that explanation for each technology should be increased, and the website might have several links for tutorials and etc.

Bad Examples of Behaviorism - 0 views

  • I once visited a Spanish classroom in a High School where I observed one of the most ineffective uses of a “Token Economy” that I had ever seen. In this case, students were so concerned with getting their “Pesos” that they lost all interest in the topic (which was suppsedly why they were getting them in the first place). The teacher himself spent large portions of class time debating with the students over whether or not they deserved “Pesos”.

Sinem, I agree with you, I think that's why game-based learning, problem-based learning, anchored instruction that has elements of problem-based learning has started to gain importance in education. I did not understand the sentence "A theory says that mind can not engage two of the issues at the same time; positive and negative issues." Can you explain it please,

Questions, Cues, Advance Organizers - 0 views

  •
Several applications of Advance Organizers in one video. I really needed that since I had not be able to understand what is the real purpose of AOs since teacher activities about them had seemed to me that they do not converge. However, after watching the video, I think that advance organizers includes key components that students should know for using it to deepen their knowledge about a specific topic. To illustrate, in one practice, students ranked several telecommunication devices in terms of their importance before designing their own device. They first learned/remembered the key components of available devices and their importance and their use, and using this initial knowledge, they started to design a new device. Without examining prior devices (without looking at how telecommunication devices look like or how they function or what are their similarities or differences), it would be harder to think of a new device.
