Abstract: "A mobile learning research project was conducted in Trinidad and Tobago to determine if mobile learning can assist high school students in learning mathematics. Several innovative techniques were used in this research to address the problem of high failure rates of mathematics in high schools in the Caribbean. A mobile learning application was developed based on a subset of the high school mathematics curriculum used in the English-speaking Caribbean. Game-based learning, personalization and multiple learning strategies were used in conjunction with mobile learning to assist students in improving their performance in mathematics. Three evaluation studies were conducted with the mobile learning application. During the studies, usage data was captured automatically by the system and this was used to determine the extent to which the students actually used the mobile application. At the end of each study, a questionnaire was used to capture student opinions of the mobile learning application. Questionnaire data is based solely on student responses and there is no guarantee of its accuracy and reliability. This paper focuses on the responses of the students to the questionnaire and seeks to determine if the usage data can increase the reliability of the questionnaire data. It summarizes the behaviour patterns of the students gleaned from the usage logs and compares this to the students' responses to the questionnaire. Generally it was found that the students' responses agreed with the usage data, though there were occasions when the responses diverged."

"This is an exploration of the hypothesis that unique belief systems depend for their coherence on distinctive patterns typically embodied in geometrical symbols in two dimensions. On the basis of that assumption, the case tentatively explored here is that of the "incommensurability" of the 5-fold Star of Islam and the 6-fold Star of David of Judaism -- both symbols appearing on flags of the nations having those distinct faiths. ... The approach taken here explores the possibility that the "pieces" only fit together on a three-dimensional surface, namely a sphere. It is the spherical geometry that then merits consideration, together with the challenge of how to get from any "mis-fitting" two-dimensional layout to a three-dimensional form. Of course, two-dimensional layouts are far more readily comprehensible. Hence the focus on them. However the three-dimensional layout has the potential of rendering comprehensible a far more elegant layout which may well exemplify intuitions characteristic of the faiths so dramatically opposed.

Abstract: "The principal aim of this study is to find the weaknesses of secondary school students at geometry questions of measures ,
angles and shapes , transformations and construction and 3-D shapes. The year 7 curriculum contains 4 geometry topics out
of 17 mathematics topics. In addition to this , this study aims to find out the mistakes, 28 , 7th grade students made in the last
4 exams including two midterms and two final exams.To collect data, students were tested on two midterms and two final
exams using open-ended questions on geometry to analyze their problem solving skills and to test how much they acquired
during the year.Frequency tables were used in data analysis.To fulfill this aim in the first midterm exam the subject measures
were tested.In the first final exam which followed the first midterm exam in addition to measures and angles shapes skills
were also tested. Following these tests , in the second midterm we tested the students on transformation and construction. A
descriptive methodology and student interview were used in the study to analyze and interpret the results. The results from
this study revealed that 7th grade secondary school students have a number of misconceptions, lack of background
knowledge, reasoning and basic operation mistakes at the topics mentioned above."
"Math Quest is a role playing game that could be used as a tool to learn numbers and basic
mathematic operations. The Math Quest package consists of two main modules; learning and game modules
that can be executed separately. The use of the learning module as a tool in learning will allow for a highly
individualized and interactive environment. This paper presents the design of the learning module for
numbers and their mathematics operation. Due to its interactive and stimulating nature, the module is suitable
for school children age 9 to 12 years old to learn the subject. The development takes into consideration of
constructivism learning theories where learning is based on students' active participation in problem solving
and critical thinking regarding activity that they are involved in. The framework for each of module is as
follows: objectives, concept, examples, exercises, quizzes. A heuristic evaluation on the design was
conducted and positive feedback was obtained."

Math journals provide advantages for students to develop a better understanding of mathematics, with teachers learning their student's views and beliefs regarding math.
From the abstract: "The problem addressed by this study is the need to identify practical predictors of success for
community college developmental mathematics students in online, hybrid and seated course delivery
formats. This study examined two possible predictors of success, mathematics self-efficacy and
technology self-efficacy, in the three delivery formats and how they related to performance on a final
assessment.
The study used a quantitative research design employing binomial logistic regression to
determine if the independent variables (math self-efficacy and technology self-efficacy) were
significant in predicting the outcome category (score on the final assessment dichotomized about the
mean). Next linear regression analysis was used to build a predictor equation for a particular score on
the outcome variable. A previously developed survey and an adapted version of another survey were
combined to measure the independent variables; demographic factors were also measured for
descriptive purposes.
Binomial logistic regression analysis showed that math self-efficacy was a valid predictor of
success for the developmental math students in this study but technology self-efficacy was not.
Regression analysis produced a valid equation to predict standard score from average math selfefficacy
score. When separated into groups according to course format, math self-efficacy was only a
valid predictor for students in hybrid courses. The implications of these results are discussed and
recommendations are made for further research."
"Why Learn It (WLI) aims to address the issue of motivation around learning math by helping students
explore the beauty and relevance of what they would otherwise dismiss as inconsequential in school.
Targeting late middle-school and early high-school students, WLI takes a hybrid approach to cultivat-
ing motivation. It leverages the engagement value of short (approximately three-minute long) videos
depicting real people talking about how math and computational thinking are critical to their successes
in a number of professional areas. Students then complete a series of interactive exercises that help
students explore an application area discussed in the video in more detail. These exercises, however,
are not simply drill problems aimed at making students experts in a particular content area. Instead,
they are multi-step assignments that require the students to draw upon both detailed mathematical
knowledge and a big picture view of how this knowledge can be used to draw useful, meaningful
conclusions. The exercises are focused on bridging the worlds of number, images, and sounds in or-
der to help students build intuition around a particular topic. Therefore, while some questions have
objectively correct responses, others require students to gather knowledge they have built through
answering previous questions within the packet to draw new inferences. Hints are provided along the
