Social transformation is an emerging trend and a new phenomenon in the cruise industry in the 21st century. Cruise lines encounter stiff competition with many competitors and face sophisticated and unpredictable challenges from the wave of social transformation. Furthermore, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the social transformation phenomena in the industry. This study investigates how social transformation reshapes the cruise industry to discuss the remarkable social and economic changes in the industry. The study builds upon the 4C descriptive framework to suggest how cruise lines take measures to create resilience against the influence affected by social transformation. The study is conducted through 18 semi-structured and in-depth interviews with cruise terminals, travel agencies, logistics, and tourism associations, researchers, cruise lines and passengers, and airlines. The cruise shipping industry structure has fundamentally shifted from supply-driven to demand-driven. The concept of social transformation becomes vital and is a driving force that is more society specific. Findings are drawn as valuable guidelines for cruise lines to scale up in operations and strategies that create social transformation. Cruise lines can also maintain sustainable development and resilient recovery post-COVID-19

One of the last pristine marine soundscapes, the Arctic, is exposed to increasing anthropogenic activities due to climate-induced decrease in sea ice coverage. In this study, we combined movement and behavioral data from animal-borne tags in a controlled sound exposure study to describe the reactions of narwhals, Monodon monoceros, to airgun pulses and ship noise. Sixteen narwhals were live captured and instrumented with satellite tags and Acousonde acoustic-behavioral recorders, and 11 of them were exposed to airgun pulses and vessel sounds. The sound exposure levels (SELs) of pulses from a small airgun (3.4 L) used in 2017 and a larger one (17.0 L) used in 2018 were measured using drifting recorders. The experiment was divided into trials with airgun and ship-noise exposure, intertrials with only ship-noise, and pre- and postexposure periods. Both trials and intertrials lasted ∼4 h on average per individual. Depending on the location of the whales, the number of separate exposures ranged between one and eight trials or intertrials. Received pulse SELs dropped below 130 dB re 1 μPa2 s by 2.5 km for the small airgun and 4-9 km for the larger airgun, and background noise levels were reached at distances of ∼3 and 8-10.5 km, respectively, for the small and big airguns. Avoidance reactions of the whales could be detected at distances >5 km in 2017 and >11 km in 2018 when in line of sight of the seismic vessel. Meanwhile, a ∼30% increase in horizontal travel speed could be detected up to 2 h before the seismic vessel was in line of sight. Applying line of sight as the criterion for exposure thus excludes some potential pre-response effects, and our estimates of effects must therefore be considered conservative. The whales reacted by changing their swimming speed and direction at distances between 5 and 24 km depending on topographical surroundings where the exposure occurred. During underwater operations, divers must determine their own trajectories using the Inertial Navigation System (INS) they carry to improve operational efficiency. However, the INS contains a sensor bias that is also incorporated into the quadratic integration process to obtain the displacement, resulting in trajectory drift of the divers during prolonged self-guidance. To overcome the above problem, other aids are needed to correct the accumulated error of the INS. The single-beacon Assisted Inertial Navigation (AIN) method can improve the flexibility of inertial error correction while simplifying the localization equipment, which is suitable for the INS cumulative error correction scenario of divers. However, most of the traditional single-beacon assisted correction methods do not consider the effect of acoustic line bending on hydroacoustic ranging, and at the same time, they do not consider the problem of singular or pathological coefficient matrices introduced by inertial navigation neighbor localization deviations. Based on the above two shortcomings, this paper uses the acoustic velocity profile for acoustic line tracking, combines the localization idea of Mobile Primitives (MP), and proposes an MP-based acoustic line tracking-Assisted Inertial Navigation Localization (AINL) method, which constructs a sliding time window (STW) by taking the historical positioning of divers as a virtual primitive, and combines the nonlinear optimization method for iterative optimization search as a means to improve the accuracy and stability of self-navigation of the divers.
