This partnership-enriched by each organization's long-standing traditions and thoughtful, dedicated members-signifies our commitment to diversity and recognizes its central role in faculty, professional, and organizational development. With this year's conference theme-Create * Collaborate * Engage-we both invite and challenge our POD and HBCUFDN colleagues to work side-by-side to create new ideas and ways of thinking, to collaborate innovatively across traditional boundaries, and to engage each other and the broader higher education community in meaningful and sustainable dialogues and activities. The questions we explore may not be new, but they are questions worth reconsidering through a new, composite lens: How can we rethink our organizational structures so we work smarter in tough economic times, meet the needs of a rapidly changing student body, and keep our faculty colleagues up to speed-all without sacrificing those aspects of the academy we hold most dear? How do we create, assess, and disseminate world-class faculty and organizational development programs? How can we foster collaboration at a nationwide level, as well as in our own departments and across professional organizations? How do we best teach, develop, and support the next generation of faculty and faculty developers? How can we help faculty members engage their students and institutions, and, maybe more importantly, how do we engage with the myriad stakeholders who influence and affect the work we do, including students, faculty, administr"

"In keeping with the EDC Bylaw Aims (3.2), the Conference aims to: facilitate networking and communication between future, new and seasoned educational developers; profile developments (scholarly and otherwise) in the field; afford professional development opportunities to experienced, new and potential educational developers; and provide a forum to exchange ideas, issues and concerns emerging in the field."

In exploring the conceptions of our profession and how institutional directions shape our practice in diverse landscapes, we invite you to explore the following questions: How do the strategic priorities of our institutions shape our approach to educational development? What are our roles in shaping institutional priorities? What should they be? How do we position ourselves in our institutions to influence strategic decision-making about teaching and learning? On the spectrum of responsibilities from meeting the learning needs of individual teachers to facilitating institutional change, how do we reconcile the tensions that the expanding roles of educational development specialists can create? As institutional directions move to a greater focus on assessment of teaching performance, institutional accountability, e-learning and m-learning, how are the roles of educational developers, instructional designers, and curriculum specialists changing? To what degree to we want to harness these trends to shape how our profession is conceptualized?

The Leading Change Institute, successor to the Frye Leadership Institute, engages leaders who seek to further develop their skills for the benefit of higher education. The Institute explores higher education challenges, empowering librarians and information technologists to initiate conversations and take action on issues of importance not just to their individual institutions, but to the entire higher education community. Higher education requires leaders, particularly in the information sector, who can inspire, advocate, and advance needed change. The Leading Change Institute's curriculum is based on three guiding principles: Participants learn how to be part of a collaborative community that takes leadership on critical issues. Participants develop the skills to build public will, set an agenda for change, and advocate for needed change. Participants learn by doing through engagement with real-world issues. Through a seminar approach, Institute participants will focus on specific issues as they seek to develop new kinds of thinking to foster collective action. They will deconstruct the issues, craft arguments to re-conceptualize what is happening in higher education, and catalyze action through collaborative projects. The missions of CLIR and EDUCAUSE reinforce the importance of partnership, learning, and collaboration reflected across the Leading Change Institute experience.

Faculty, staff, and administrators throughout higher education are employing contemplative practices for many reasons. These include sharpening attention; creating environments that enhance the well-being of all; addressing inclusion and access for all in support of the vibrant diversity of our institutions; deepening engagement and learning of subject matter; reflecting on and supporting meaning-making; considering the wider impacts of our actions; and ultimately supporting the development of a more just and compassionate society. Given the breadth and depth of these many intentions, the types of practices used are extremely diverse, and their assessment needs to be approached with great sensitivity. Assessment of practices designed to develop attention, for example, will be different from assessment of those practices designed to increase conceptual understanding or develop compassion and creativity.

The Open Education Global Conference is the annual opportunity for researchers, practitioners, policy makers and educators to deeply explore open education and its impact on global education. Conference participants will hear from thought leaders in open education and have the opportunity to share ideas, practices and discuss issues important to the future of education worldwide.  Sessions cover new developments in open education, research results, innovative technology, policy development and implementation, and practical solutions to challenges facing education around the world. The theme for Open Education Global 2015 is Entrepreneurship and Innovation, emphasizing the exciting directions and developments in open education around the world.

We cordially invite you to participate in the 37th Annual POD Conference to be held in Seattle, Washington on October 24-28, 2012. With this year's theme, Pencils & Pixels: 21st Century Practices in Higher Education, we invite an informed exploration of the unprecedented array of technologies, both high-tech and low-tech, in use at institutions of higher learning. New technologies continue to arise, faster than most of us can assimilate. Some are seductive. Others seem to be more trouble to learn than they are worth. Some may seem frivolous, but upon closer examination have exciting applications for teaching, learning, and professional and organizational development. At the same time, many of the very best pedagogical technologies are neither new nor digital. It is probably no coincidence that the growing interest in contemplative practices and "slow teaching" is occurring simultaneously with the current smart phone and social media explosion. How are digital technologies affecting the way students learn? How can we support faculty and students-many of whom wear their smart phones like appendages-in selecting appropriate technologies for the work at hand? When, if ever, is it appropriate to insist that students, faculty, and even organizations disconnect entirely from digital tools and social media? How do high-tech and low-tech pedagogies inform each other? We invite you to share the tools, approaches, and practices that foster excellent teaching, learning, and professional development; strategies and rationale for supporting the technology-resistant to choose and use excellent digital tools; technology-related research findings; and examples of productive disengagement from technology addictions. 

he conference theme "Educational Development in a Changing World" is created to engage with the constant flow of change in which higher education is situated. It demands innovation and creativity as well as plurality and discipline specific strategies for implementations that keeps higher education at the frontline. Scholars and higher-education professionals, interested in educational development and related fields, are highly encouraged to submit papers for oral presentation, or to participate in other parts of the conference program including keynote address, plenary lecture, panel discussions/symposium, seminars, or pre-conference workshops.

The ET4Online Symposium offers you an opportunity to study best practices, understand applications, discover new technologies, and connect to others who share a love for and belief in the promise of educational technology. In 2012 the symposium developed a new mission statement designed to emphasize the innovation and invention that is the focus of the conference: A conference devoted to the emerging and innovative uses of technology designed to improve teaching and learning online. Tracks for this year's conference include Learning Spaces and Communities, Open and Accessible Learning, Evidence-based Learning, Faculty and Student Development, and Innovative Media and Tools. Woven into the conference program and offered within the structure of the tracks will be special emerging technologies, future academics, sandbox, leadership, and STEM sessions. The role of the educator is key to fostering learning experiences that support and sustain the development of lifelong learners and leaders in our society. At the 2015 STLHE conference, Achieving Harmony: Tuning into Practice, we will investigate the diversity of issues converging in higher education while acknowledging that the dissonance we can encounter in our work as educators is an opportunity to create transformative learning experiences for us and our students. We invite our higher education colleagues to Canada's West Coast to share their experiences and engage in scholarly inquiry into student learning to enable us to "fine-tune" our practice as educators, educational developers and educational leaders.

A unique one-year Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) accredited, non-degree certificate program, inquire is designed for graduate students and instructors looking to engage in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). The inquire certificate includes face-to-face sessions and online course delivery, providing participants studying from a distance with the flexibility to conduct their own disciplinary studies while simultaneously enhancing their abilities in the scholarship of teaching and learning. A blended learning, inquiry-based program, the inquire certificate can be achieved by completing the following three successive courses: Foundations and Frameworks in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Conducting the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Communicating Findings in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Program participants can expect to ethically and collaboratively identify, investigate, and answer a question related to teaching and learning. The inquire non-degree program certificate will use an inquiry-based learning approach to enable students to develop and apply pedagogical knowledge and skills by collaboratively researching a self-identified question related to teaching and learning. Two mandatory face-to-face sessions occur throughout the certificate. The first face-to-face session is a four-day Action Institute running at the beginning of the first course (May 5-8, 2015). The second face-to-face session occurs at the end of the certificate during the 2016 Teaching and Learning Innovations Conference at the University of Guelph. All other components of the certificate will be offered online.

The inquire Certificate is a non-degree certificate program that has been developed for you to enhance your ability and competency in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). With attention to the authentic experience of conducting SoTL, the inquire Certificate is designed to be collaborative and inquiry based.  Upon successful completion of the program, you can expect to leave with the following: Non-degree program certificate in The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, offered by Open Learning and Educational Support (OpenEd) at the University of Guelph Named award in Enhancing Research Practice, accredited by the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) Peer-reviewed conference presentation

The Summer Institutes model the scientific teaching principles they teach. We invite college and university faculty, instructional staff, and future faculty to develop teaching skills at multi-day workshops to transform the undergraduate STEM classroom. Summer Institutes draw on the expertise of both presenters and participants. Current research, active learning, assessment, and inclusive teaching are woven into the program, creating a forum to share ideas and develop innovative instructional materials to be implemented upon returning home.
