HP won't be the first company to host a completely virtual shareholder meeting, but it may very well be the largest.

In 2011, just 21 companies used Broadridge Financial Solutions, a primary provider of online shareholder meeting technology, to hold virtual-only meetings. By 2014, that number had grown to 53.

Big companies, including Intel and Microsoft, have hosted what's known as hybrid meetings, in which a physical event is held but investors can also "attend" online.

Data crunching has grown so sophisticated and powerful, privacy researchers now warn that tracing identities from a pool of supposedly "anonymized" data is not just a possibility, it's a certainty.

"It is depressingly hard to try to anonymize data in a way that resists identification by a committed adversary," Arvind Narayanan, a privacy researcher at Princeton University, told NBC News.

More general LMSs include Schoology, Edmodo and Google Classroom. Chalkup has a rubric builder built into it. Or, if a minimal project organizer will do, consider constructing a wiki. A simple wiki site such as Google Sites or Wikispaces might be all a class needs.

Corporations are interested in making skilled volunteering a larger piece of their community involvement activities, and companies like Microsoft, HP, American Express and The Gap are publically and actively building more skills-based and pro bono volunteering programs.

The skilled volunteering movement is also growing among individuals – organizations like Taproot Foundation and Catchafire have joined VolunteerMatch to connect skilled volunteers directly with nonprofit projects, and they are growing by leaps and bounds.
