The role of a certified nursing assistant is very challenging and crucial as it involves caring for patients, taking care of their medical and personal needs. The CNA works under the leadership and guidance of a registered nurse. Though it may seem relatively easy to become a CNA it is not a job that can be done by anybody.

MultiBrief: Effectively incorporating technology with English learners - 2 views

  • Perhaps the first consideration is the instructional purpose of the lesson, and how the technology will enhance that purpose or help students to achieve the goals and objectives of the lesson.
  • Technology, as mentioned earlier, has the power to increase student knowledge and skills in various content areas. Yet another consideration that must be taken into account when working with English learners is how the technology is increasing academic language knowledge and skills. It is critical, then, that teachers take into account not only the content goals and objectives for the lesson, but also the language goals and objectives as well as the linguistic demand of the tasks students will need to accomplish in the classroom.
  • English learners need additional instructional supports or scaffolds, including providing students with necessary background knowledge that other students may possess, using graphic organizers, pictures/visuals, demonstrations and realia, and providing redundant information and differentiated instruction based on students' language proficiency level. When researching various technology tools, it is critical that we investigate how the tool addresses these principles.

  • The use of technology in the classroom is quickly becoming not only commonplace, but also essential for helping students gain the 21st-century skills they will need to be successful in the future.
  • when implementing technology in the classroom, an important component of instruction is to teach students how to use technology effectively and responsibly. Students may need guidance and instruction on how to use technology appropriately given the task and learning at hand, how to avoid distractions with technology, and how to effectively navigate the digital world.

In this article, Herrmann explains principles to guide the adoption and utilisation of technology to help meet general and specific needs of English-as-an-additional language learners.

FAQs-III: Groupwork in distance learning (Felder & Brent, 2001) - 3 views

  •
"Even in traditional classes students may do little or no work but get the same grade as their more industrious colleagues, and serious conflicts may arise between teammates with varying levels of ability and senses of responsibility. The problems may be even worse when groups are virtual and don't have the self-regulating capability provided by face-to-face meetings. It is therefore particularly important in distance classes to adhere to the defining principles of cooperative learning, especially positive interdependence (if anyone fails to do his or her part everyone loses in some way), individual accountability (all team members are held accountable for all the material in the assignment), and regular self-assessment of team functioning."

Week 1 - Any Questions or Comments about Social Bookmarking? | Diigo - 0 views

    • Joao Alves

The idea of bundling tags in weeks is a very good and simple one. Students feel there is a guidance and that they don't need to waste time searching for relevant information. It's like in webquest where you give certain sites to students to explore about a specific topic.
  • Besides, I created a tutorial with the most important features in Delicious.
  • Another aspect is that I think that online bookmarking should make us guilty-free instead of guilty because we don't check all the links we've bookmarked.
  • ...11 more annotations...
  • Who said we need to look at them all?
  • As for information overload, I consider bookmarking a way to dribble information overload. Why? If you have tons of bookmarks together with tons of people's bookmarks being tagged, you can use those bookmarks to create meaning whenever needed.
  • If you consider Diigo for that matter, you could easily set up a group and you could have the bookmarks for your students to start with and encourage them to share their bookmarks with the group. Also, I'd consider specific tags
  • I think the comments feature and the sticky notes have great potential in the classroom!
  • Working with bookmarks to make a digital portfolio sounds very creative.
  • I thought the idea of a digital portfolio using tags a very interesting one, even more with the webslides. You can keep track of all the online artifacts you've been creating. Interesting for busy educators!
  • I think a really big thing is to change one's way of thinking.
  • First, add tags that are meaningful for you, for your private retrieval, and also tags that have been suggested by the group that will help others browse through the treasures you find online.
  • Handling more information and sharing it with our colleagues should make us better teachers.
  • Every online resource we explore is bookmarked and shared with the group. I used to do that in delicious. Now, I'll have to see how to do that here. In delicious I could easily organize my tags in Weeks (bundling tags). Here, I think you can use the "lists" to organize your tags in a meaningful way to the group. I'll check that.

This would be interesting to explore further.

You are such a competent teacher using technologies, Carla. Congratulations!

  •   Welcome to the NNEST Interest Section Website! We're glad you're here. As the NNEST CAUCUS we had a great 10 years, and our thanks to all the Caucus Members and all the Caucus Leaders who lead us so well and so far. We must particularly mention all the Caucus Presidents: George Braine, Jun Liu, Lia Kamhi-Stein, Paul Matsuda, Masaki Oda, Ahmar Mahboob, Lucie Moussu, Karen Newman, Luciana C. de Oliveira. Now, as the NNEST INTEREST SECTION, with new roles, new orientations on research, and new areas for outreach, we will work hard to achieve the same kind of success that the Caucus had and we hope you'll join us in making that happen. It is very important to us that the Interest Section find ways to maintain the sense of community, the support for member publication, and the commitment to developing new leaders that so characterized the Caucus. Those are some big shoes to fill, but together we can manage it. Over the next few months as the transition from Caucus to Interest Section occurs, we may need some help from you--engaging in processes like indicating that you want to be an NNEST Interest Section Member (and we hope you'll decide to make the NNEST IS your primary Interest Section), and participating in Interest Section elections (which we intend to carry out online in February so new officers will be ready to lead at the TESOL Convention in Denver). When we have guidance from Central Office on such matters we will let you know as soon as we can--your participation gives our Interest Section all its meaning.. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, don't hesitate to contact us--we'll do our best to help Katya Nemtchinova, NNEST IS transitional Chair (and final Chair Elect of the NNEST Caucus!)
