Upon coming across this cartoon, I've felt an urge to share it with you because it touches on some relevant issues we've been discussing since the very beginning of the course. Please first click on the picture to enlarge it, and sorry for this inconvenience :)

Thanks for your share Yasin :) This cartoon reminds me of the education in Turkey. While areas like science, math, biology are thought to be important, unfortunately art, literature, music, dance etc. are underestimated. They are thought to be just hobbies and not enough attention is given to them. People interested in these areas are thought to be wasting their time or unsuccessful. Again unfortunatelly we cannot change this perception. I wish there were more people around me who were given the chance to show their talents and whose talents do not fade away.

You're welcome Seda :) It is even more depressing to know that this perception won't change as long as we live under today's economical perceptions. It is simply "be a part of the system or get ready to be called as marginal" :)

This is a very nice video about situated learning in mathematics. as i understood, the professor advocates that the more important thing is how you give a context rather than just saying what it is. Moreover, using of context of land, areas, puzzles or folk stories make students learn better. Thus, she mentioned that they prepare the books used in primary or elementary classes in terms of these characteristics, and since they do not have a national curriculum, every state makes its own national curriculum. SOme of the schools adapt to some extent and translate them. What about our country? Is it possible to redevelop the curricula in terms of different regions of our country? How should we make it?

Technology integration is the use of technology resources -- computers, mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, digital cameras, social media platforms and networks, software applications, the Internet, etc. -- in daily classroom practices, and in the management of a school.

Actually the topic is not totally about designed based research but clearly this talk criticizes the curriculum based on the experiences of the talker. This talk is one of the most popular talks, so I think it is worth watching.

Although this article is a short one, it gives a brief information about six common characteristics that expert teachers have.
