Idaho bill would take away power of teachers union - 1 views

  • A bill that would phase out tenure for new teachers and restrict collective bargaining on their salaries and benefits is on its way to the Idaho governor.
    • Purnima Malik

How exactly is this fair? Teachers have a low enough salary how it is? Is this how Idaho views their education? They should be lucky that they even have an education in our horrible economy.
  • Idaho bill would take away power of teachers union
    • Purnima Malik

Everyone should get the right to form a union. Now companies many set some ground rules or something, but the state should not be able to determine the right for teachers to form a union. In my economics class we were watch a movie in which a nurse and a guard decide to form unions to reach out to other nurses and guards about rising salaries.
  • The GOP-backed measure cleared its final hurdle Tuesday in the state Legislature, where it passed the Idaho House on a 48-22 vote. Nine Republicans crossed party lines to oppose the bill.
    • Purnima Malik

I don't think of myself as a stong politcal minded person, but go republicans for opposing the bill. I don't think can make this call because unions was a huge thing ever since America was create. The people should take this to court.

Facebook and The White House join forces in the fight against bullying - Anaheim relati... - 0 views

  • Today, it is not that easy.
    • Purnima Malik

The entire definition of what bullying is has changed. At that time the bullies would call victims names, spread bad rumors about them hurting them socially, physical and mentally. Now it is just a mess. How are people suppose to track bullies on the web?
  • fake online profiles which allow them to bully anonymously.
    • Purnima Malik

Exactly, now that people have gotten smart. So know the victim might not even know him/her. But how would they track this? I don't think it is possible to stop this because it deals with the internet. Once something goes on, it never comes down.
  • One third of middle school and high school students report being bullied during the school year.  Almost 3 million students have said they were pushed, shoved, tripped and even spit on.
    • Purnima Malik

Shocking! Actually, I don't think bullying is the ultimate problem because it is everywhere even on WallStreet. Want people should preach is another way to get stronger or something. I think this is a lost hope because it is just not reasonable for everyone to sing kum bai ya around the fire.

What a suprise because I though facebook wants all their users to have a million friend despite if they actually know them. This seems like a contradiction.

I was wondering why the governement of Somalia was letting people do this. Even though this practice might be profitable for them, it seems like it would do more harm than good, as it is damaging foreign relations. I suppose there is no one to enforce any laws, if there are any against piracy to begin with.

Colorado Boy Faces 9 Charges in Parents' Deaths - FoxNews.com - 0 views

  • Documents released Monday in the case of a 12-year-old Colorado boy accused of fatally shooting his parents and wounding two siblings show prosecutors filed nine charges against him, including two counts of first-degree murder.
    • Adam Mazurek

This is just horrible. Why would any kid that young even think of killing their family? I wonder how the boy was able to get ahold of a gun.
  • Police said they found the bodies of Charles and Marilyn Long on March 1 after somebody called 911 to report a shooting at their Burlington home, about 140 miles east of Denver and near the Kansas state line.

  • Prosecutors have not decided whether to charge the boy as an adult.

NFL labor: Courts could tilt leverage in coming weeks - The Washington Post - 0 views

  • Sports leagues historically have struggled to defend themselves against various antitrust claims; the NFL players claim in their latest suit that owners have violated antitrust law through the lockout, the “Franchise Player” and “Transition Player” designations, and through the college draft. All of those, the players contend, restrict their ability to earn maximum pay for their skills.
    • Davonta Covington

I think this can be a major problem in the NFL because all the hall of fame players or soon to be, will lose out on the money that they deserve. So by cutting the salary of the owners and managers of the NFL is taking a lost also.
  • “This may be the most complex labor battle in American sport history,” said Robert Boland, who teaches antitrust and labor law at New York University. Both sides “are looking for an advantage that becomes a game changer.”

This doesn't matter! Why would it matter what closed if people died! 14 people died and this was put in the article?! That is just... I have no words for this lack of human emotion.
  • "We've had skull fractures, rib fractures ... internal bleeding, we've had lung contusions," said Dr. Ernest Patti, senior attending physician at St. Barnabas.

I could never work in a hospital... I could never endure all of the pressure or see all of the suffering...
  • "heartbroken"
    • Robyn Allen

Heartbroken... That is just an empty word at this moment.
  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration records listed World Wide Travel as having at least two other accidents in which people were injured in the past 24 months. The agency flagged the company for possible extra scrutiny due to violations involving driver fatigue regulations.

      Seriously? Just wow.

I wonder what kind of penalty or chargers he could get from doing this. Is it a more serious crime because of the bible being used.

  • Burlington, a town of fewer than 4,000 residents, which is located near the Colorado-Kansas border.
    • Kyle Wisner

I have never heard of this town before.

7 children die in Pennsylvania house fire - CNN.com - 0 views

  • The parents were outside the house at the time of the fire. They survived, as did another child, he said.
    • Davonta Covington

To me why would you leave 7 kids in the house unattended? This is the lack of parenting that parents have these days. No matter how old the age, if you are at your house and you want to leave I think you should take the kids with you. Dont leave your kids in the house by themselves. Especially when you live on an open farm.
  • "Everybody I've talked to here this morning has felt a lot of sympathy toward these people. It's a real shame the way things like that happen," he said.
    • Davonta Covington

Yes i feel very sorry for these people to lose a set of family like this. I think it is very sad that you lose them because of something like this happens.
  • The father was taking a nap in his milk truck after making a few stops along his delivery route, Pinkerton said. The mother was milking cows in the barn.
    • Davonta Covington

Why didnt the dad go home and at least check on his famiy? Why sleep in a milk truck? The mother should have taken the kids with her to the barn so she can watch whats going on with them. You never know what is going to happen you leave your house.

  • Nubia and Victor were placed in the Barahonas' custody in 2004 when state investigators took the twins out of their biological father's home after the man was accused of sexually abusing Nubia.
    • Seth Fahringer

That is crazy. That girl was seriously messed up wasn't she? I feel so bad for her. That is so so sad. People like this just make me so mad.

  • Despite routine visits, state investigators repeatedly missed clues that the children were being abused in their new home.
    • Seth Fahringer

They are trained to see the signs. How could they have missed them? And UGH THEY MAKE ME SO MAD! Someone should have helped these kids!
  • In the days since the children were found, the state has removed two other children, a girl named Jennifer, 7, and a boy named George, 11, from the Barahonas' home and placed them in protective foster care.
    • Seth Fahringer

How many kids do they have? How did they even get to adopt kids? This state is horrible at seeing the signs.
  • Carmen's biological granddaughter, who made frequent visits to the Barahona home, told a school therapist about the twins' abuse, saying the children had been bound and forced to stand in a bathtub. The therapist then called a child abuse hotline.

The children weren't removed from the home? There was a hotline called! Why weren't they helped?! Those hotlines are put in place for a reason!

Those are obvious signs of abuse! They were starving her! They weren't letting her bathe! How could they say nothing was wrong there?
  • "This child is very medically needy and should not be missing appointments because the foster parent does not want to take her," the report said.
