A Subway: Just What's Needed. Or Is It? - New York Times - 0 views

Domingo Metro Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic is creating a Metro system that has all the Dominicans talking. So far, there aren't any trains; rails; or turnstiles in place it is just a hole in the ground. They have a construction deadline of early next year. The only other subways system in the Caribbean is in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Santo Domingo subway will have up to nine miles of tracks. This subways system would be a great way to un-clog the streets from cars, busses and horse carts as well as give them a closer connection to New York (their inspiration).

I read an article titled, "El milagro está en casa Gender and Private/Public Empowerment in a Migrant Pentecostal Church," by Lois Ann Lorentzen with Rosalina Mira through this website and thought it would be incredibly helpful in understanding gender roles within a Pentecostal, Latin American society. This article looks at a community of migrants in the San Francisco/Bay Area in a specific church. I thought this would be interesting to see how their perspectives may change after moving to the United States.

This article discusses the inclusion of women in the local government in Guatemala. However, women are participating in government in Huehuetenango, Chiquimula, Solala, and San Marcos. Women are acting against political violence. One way that they are doing this is by eliminating corrupted activities within the government. In order to end political violence against women, federal laws must be established against the violence. Having women in the governmental systems, help in governmental response towards the rights and needs of women.
