This webpage includes a basic timeline of Guatemala's history from the beginning of the Spanish colonization to the present. It outlines social-democratic reforms, violations of human rights, the end of the civil war, storm related deaths, murders, etc. This relates to our class because it provides an easy to read outline of Guatemala's history.

This short video clip talks about an organization, The Forensic Anthropology Foundation, that is working to uncover the mass graves from the civil war in Guatemala and put names to each of the bodies. They will hopefully be able to identify each body by DNA testing and return the corpses to their surviving family members to have a proper burial. This relates to our class because it is an account of what anthropologists are doing now to try to heal from the Guatemalan Civil War that we are studying.

This article discusses the steps that the government is taking currently to try to heal the population that was affected by the war, nearly everyone. The president is awarding compensation, in the form of money (check), to individuals who have lost family members and/or their homes because of the state military's past actions. Some say the most important thing that the president is doing is apologizing via letter that he signs or in person because it means that they recognize that they wronged many individuals and no amount of money can replace family members.

I read an article titled, "El milagro está en casa Gender and Private/Public Empowerment in a Migrant Pentecostal Church," by Lois Ann Lorentzen with Rosalina Mira through this website and thought it would be incredibly helpful in understanding gender roles within a Pentecostal, Latin American society. This article looks at a community of migrants in the San Francisco/Bay Area in a specific church. I thought this would be interesting to see how their perspectives may change after moving to the United States.

This article discusses the growing Gang problem in Central America and pertains to our class because the issues brought up in this article are similar to the ones we will be reading and talking about as a class.

I thought this website would be helpful in better understanding Venezuela through current events. There are many sub-topics within the website that make specific searches easier, including those related to crime, culture, religion, and violence, all of which are new subjects of interest while reading Milde's book, Reasons to Believe.

For all the students who are more or less unfamiliar with HIV/AIDS, this website will answer any questions you might have. There are personal accounts, many articles spanning a wide range of topics relating to HIV/AIDS, information on testing and medications, treatment and side effects, current events and more.

Although our current emphasis in class is the study of masculinity, this website details the problems that women and children face in Latin America. This pertains to our class in that it is important to understand why and how men (and other women) hurt women and children perhaps because of the pressure they feel to be "macho."

This website relates to our course in that it outlines and explains major issues in Latin America that the United States has taken an interest in and are helping financially. This particular page of usaid.gov discusses contraceptive security in relation to HIV/AIDS in different countries.

Religion is and has been an important aspect of life in Latin America for many reasons. This site discusses the differences between each religion practiced and besides the general background, there are many statistics to serve as a timeline, an extensive bibliography, scholarly discussions, and more.

The International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs created and maintain this website. Many topics are discussed in length about indigenous people - the issues they face, their values and political systems - from multiple continents, including Argentina, Guatemala, Panama, and Peru from Latin America.

This cite is valuable because it has a large compilation of articles pertaining to a multitude of current issues in Venezuelan society. Such topics include; the economy, social change, internal and external politics, current events, etc.. There are audio recordings as well as the literary ones.
