An Agrument for and a Argument Against - 13 views

Argument For:
If the punishment is the same as adults for the offenders that are old enough for the same punishment that adults get by showing how we won't let them off easy just because they are juveniles may stop other from committing any crime that might get adult consequences.
Argument Against:
That although the offender has committed a crime that is as serious as one an adult would commit they are still kids and just like all kids are, they have lots of potential. From the stories read about the kids who committed the crimes they have had a pretty tragic or hard life. Instead of throwing them in jail where they will be surrounded in even more negative energy send them somewhere that will help them either instead of the punishment or after it depending on how serious the crime.
What should our bill say? - 137 views

I think that the bill should say that even if someone under 18 commits a crime that is so severe that they go to adult court the offender shouldn't go to jail. Since they aren't adults they have a larger chance of changing so instead of being put into jail they should have different punishment like in the books touching spirit bear and holes.

I agree Bailey and Kieran,
they shouldn't get away with crime just because of their age but even if they don't go to jail there are plenty other punishments. -
I feel like i just arrive at a party and everyone left... anyway i just read through everything and the bill sounds great i agree with every point. I support splitting up the punishments depending on the age very strongly. Well done!

Our bill says nothing about capital punishment,so if the offender has committed a very serious crime, is between the ages 15 and 18 and is in a state that allows capital punishment (States that allow capital punishment:Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wyoming) then since they are trialed as an adult then they would get capital punishment. I strongly disagree with this because although yes they have committed a very serious crime they are still a juvenile and they do Not deserve capital punishment. "Their inexperience, less education, and less intelligence make the teenager less able to evaluate the consequences of his or her conduct while at the same time he or she is much more apt to be motivated by mere emotion or peer pressure than is an adult. The reasons why juveniles are not trusted with the privileges and responsibilities of an adult also explain why their irresponsible conduct is not as morally reprehensible as that of an adult."
i'm not going to be able to get on until later
tonight but i will look through and comment.
