  •
"FLEMINGTON - Robert Shore has asked Flemington officials to designate English as the borough's official language. Shore is a borough resident, landlord and businessman. He made the request at Borough Council's Feb. 25 meeting, urging them to adopt an ordinance to that effect. But Shore is not just an outspoken participant in most council meetings; he is on the board of directors of the Flemington Business Improvement District."

I found this story newsworthy because it involves a man from my area. The qualities of newsworthiness that this story contains are timeliness, proximity, and unusual nature. The story was published just yesterday, and the magazine where the photo in question was displayed was a recent issue. The story is also very near to me. The man who took these photographs lives in my town. The story is of unusual nature because it isn't very often that men or women from Flemington, a small town in Jersey, are published or recognized in national media.

DOT to repave 1.2 miles of Route 202 north of Flemington Circle | NJ.com - 0 views

  •
"DOT to repave 1.2 miles of Route 202 north of Flemington Circle Route 202 will be resurfaced in both directions from just north of the Route 202-31 traffic circle in Flemington to north of Greenwood Drive in Raritan Township. The DOT's contractor, Arawak Paving Co., has begun preliminary operations to prepare the roadway for resurfacing this week. Route 202 carries two travel lanes in each direction. Resurfacing operations will require single lane closures on Route 202 in both directions during overnight and off-peak hours. One travel lane on Route 202 will be maintained in each direction at all times during construction. All work is weather dependent. The $1.2 million project will mill and repave the travel lanes and shoulders along a 1.2 mile stretch of Route 202, as well as make curbing and guide rail improvements. Completion is scheduled for early 2012."

I chose this article because it happened so close to home and sounded like a memorable way to remember the attacks on 9/11 ten years ago. Impact: 9/11 had such an impact on America, that for the 10th anniversary Flemington decided to do something special for it. Emotion: 9/11 was an emotional day and remembering it is always an emotional experience. Timeliness: It happened over the weekend Proximity: It happened in our town

Salvaging a declining music scene - 0 views

This is interesting to me because I am a music lover myself. I have seen the scene declining and its nice to know the reasons for it. Meaning-the scene in flemington could pitter out, forcing bands to stop playing Conflict-so what do we do about this? how do we open more venues? is it really the venues or the people? Human Interest-this is a real heart issue for the kids so used to going to the shows, and having no where to go anymore.
  • In the past, Central has had a strong music scene, one filled with a wide variety of music styles and bands. A lot has changed in the last few years, and the difference, according to some people, is not positive and needs repair. 2008 Central graduate Jeff Hersch was a previous member of the once popular Central group Knockout Theory, and he has many years under his belt as a musician in a fluctuating scene. “The music scene has definitely gotten smaller…and worse,” he said

Letters: Possible solutions to improve safety at intersections in Flemington area | NJ.com - 0 views

  •
Cars heading west on Walter Foran Boulevard can go straight across Rt. 31 from the middle lane or the right lane. However, just east of Rt. 31, the two lanes must merge quickly and often dangerously, and I'm sure not all drivers in the right lane know that their lane will vanish momentarily. Solution: the right lane should only be for right turns north onto Rt. 31. Now that we have a beautiful new alignment at the intersection of North Main and Park Avenue, why was a left-turn arrow not been incorporated into the traffic light? The time to make these kinds of decisions is during major construction.
