I found this story newsworthy because it involves a man from my area. The qualities of newsworthiness that this story contains are timeliness, proximity, and unusual nature. The story was published just yesterday, and the magazine where the photo in question was displayed was a recent issue. The story is also very near to me. The man who took these photographs lives in my town. The story is of unusual nature because it isn't very often that men or women from Flemington, a small town in Jersey, are published or recognized in national media.

  • In the latest edition of Time Magazine, author and Yale law professor Adam Cohen presents an overly simplistic portrayal of New Jersey’s new “cyberbullying” law as a “model” for the nation.

In the latest edition of Time Magazine, author and Yale law professor Adam Cohen presents an overly simplistic portrayal of New Jersey's new "cyberbullying" law as a "model" for the nation. Cohen's method of analysis, which typifies the reasoning of many state legislators, can be reduced to this: "Bullying is a big problem. This is a tough legal response. Therefore, it is good." Well, maybe. But when even the lobbyists for school administrators are publicly fretting that the schools are being given too much authority (or as they see it, too much responsibility), then you have to wonder whether the train has jumped the rails.

I chose this article because I thought it was interesting how a person you don't here too much about in the media is number one on Forbes highest paid actors. Celebrity: This article has to do with celebrities  Timeliness: Something that happened within the last year Meaning: Informs the world what celebrities make the most Unusual nature: Wouldn't guess that such an under the radar celebrity would be the richest

"On Monday Fond du Lac High School Principal Jon Wiltzius told journalism classes new school guidelines require that all stories meet his approval before publication and are subject to rejection. "This is a reasonable expectation," Wiltzius said. "My job is to oversee the global impact of everything that occurs within our school and I have to ensure I am representing everyone and there was some questionable content." As of 6 p.m. Tuesday the students' anti-censorship petition posted at change.org had garnered 700 signatures. It specifically petitions Superintendent Dr. James Sebert and each signature is forwarded directly to the superintendent's email account."

What if the Secret to Success Is Failure? - NYTimes.com - 0 views

Why I found it newsworthy: This story is about how kids learn to be successful. As an educator this is something I care about a great deal. Qualities of News: Important/Impact - Many people have kids in school, so this would impact a great deal of readers. Meaning - This tries to explain what is truly effective in schools. This is a complicated topic that is frequently debated. Conflict - there is some conflict between what parents at this school think and what Randolph is doing. Proximity - this is a school in Manhattan that would be close to most readers of the NY Times.
  •
The most critical missing piece, Randolph explained as we sat in his office last fall, is character - those essential traits of mind and habit that were drilled into him at boarding school in England and that also have deep roots in American history.

Remember all that time you spent in high school in the girls bathroom touching up your makeup, talking trash, or wasting time in between classes? Well a school in Britain recently decided its female students were a little TOO fabulous and decided to axe the mirrors in an attempt to curb makeup usage.
