Most smart appliances have an accompanying application. Those applications are available on iOS and android. (Samsung's washer and dryer application is working on only iOS and Samsung's Galaxy mobile devices, not the rest of the Android devices.) There are some examples of using iOS to control the smart appliances 1. LG Smart ThinQ LFX31995ST LG Smart ThinQ app will tell you the internal temperatures of both the refrigerator and freezer, and whether it's on energy-saving mode or not. You can make grocery lists and automatically update your inventory once you've checked an item off the list. Also, you can search for recipes on the fridge based on what your fridge has in stock. 2. Whirlpool WRL767SIAM Side-by-Side Refrigerator with 6th Sense Live it transmits information directly to the free app on your smart device. Whirlpool's app can let you know, if the refrigerator door is open or if there has been a power outage. Whirlpool has also enabled this refrigerator to connect to the smart grid if it's available in your area, which will let you monitor energy usage through its app. 3. GE Profile PT9550SFSS Built-In Double Convection Wall Oven The game-change app turns your phone into a remote control for the oven. You can set the temperature, mode, and time for both ovens independently and turn them on with app. 4. LG Smart ThinQ LRE3027ST oven Smart ThinQ app will allow you to search for recipes and then cue up the cook time and temperature accordingly, but you still have to manually press start on the oven itself. LG app allows you to run diagnostics on the range to make sure that everything is running as it should be. 5. LG Smart ThinQ WT6001HV Washer/Smart ThinQ DLEX6001V Electric Dryer LG's Smart ThinQ washing machine features a gorgeous touch screen and connects to LG's Smart ThinQ app via your smartphone or tablet. It doesn't have a smart-grid function like some other washer/dryer apps, but it's otherwise similar in that it lets you check your wash cycle

Android's biggest security flaws | ZDNet - 1 views

Android is widely accepted as being iOS' greatest rival, but, according to Dell SecureWorks security researcher Timothy Vidas, it has a host of issues that have made it a target for malware authors. Poor permissions: the huge host of permissions that users must understand are driving them into information paralysis; they are choosing to ignore the warnings presented to them, and not considering whether they may be dangerous or unnecessary. Open marketplace: Google Play does have an automated scanning program called Bouncer, but its effectiveness is as yet unknown. Therefore many Russian and Chinese alternative markets basically distribute 100 per cent malware Inexperienced or malicious developers: if they don't have any malicious intent, the developers could introduce new vulnerabilities into the target device, or create features that have unintended side effects.

Identify the area of impact the scenario relates to. Business Identify the main stakeholders to the IT system. Sony, Geohot, users of PS3, users of Geohot, twitter, youtube, Google 3. Identify one ITGS social/ethical concern in the article. Privacy and anonymity 4. Describe ITGS terminology and systems. IP address : An Internet Protocol address (IP address) is usually a numerical label assigned to each device (e.g., computer, printer) participating in a computer network that uses the Internet protocol for communication. An IP address serves two principal functions: host or network interface identification and location addressing. Sources : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_address iOS : iOS is Apple's mobile operating system. It was originally developed for the iPhone, and it has extended to support other Apple devices such as the iPod touch, iPad and Apple TV. Geohot : George Hotz, known for working with other people to unlock the iPhone, allowing the phone to be used with other wireless carriers. 5. If possible, describe a solution to the concern (issue). There is no possible solution because even if Sony gets hold of all IP addresses, there will be alternate ways for users to still access GeoHot's websites and videos. Moreover, the US justice system shouldn't give rights to companies to access personal information, because it is basically invading peoples' privacy.

Yes, your iPhone is tracking you -- the question's why - Computerworld - 3 views

Why are iphones tracking people? april 28' cream
  •
Why are iphones tracking people? This is the issue of storing user's location data in unencrypted file. The file, named "consolidated.db," is an unencrypted SQLite database that can be found in the devices' file systems and in the iOS backup files created and updated by iTunes every time an iPhone or 3G iPad is synced. Since, we know that Apple is actually collecting location and some information on iphone that's why iphone is not safe at all. Although the file isn't immediately accessible on the device itself, it can be accessed on a jailbroken device via the iTunes-generated backup file. It also could potentially be accessed using other tools that allow you to explore an iOS device's file system while it's attached to a computer.

Privacy controversy over Path for iPhone, iPad should be a wake-up call - The Washingto... - 10 views

Explain the issue with Path. Evaluate Apple's solution.  Should services such as Path take or hold our data? all feb 21 johnroy

Explain the issue with Path. When you take apps by log in from your iOS device then it would take you personal information and put it into the Apple server. It does this without permission of the user. The reason why is doing this to locate the user where you are at and your friends. Evaluate Apple's solution. Their solution is just to add new feature so you would be aware that apps would take your private information and put into the main server apple server. When you're downloading or getting apps you need to approve that they get you privacy information. Should services such as Path take or hold our data? I believe that they shouldn't because it's hard to trust large companies. The information that they have could be sold to other person that interest about your privacy. Another possible solution is that the data that is stored could be hacked anytime and when this occurrence happens. The hacker can sell my privacy to someone or he directly knows where I live, what's my name and etc.

PayPal Debuts Its Newest Hardware, Beacon, A Bluetooth LE Enabled Device For Hands-Free... - 6 views

One of David Marcus's biggest challenges when taking on the role of President of PayPal was extending the platform into point of sale, and making it easier to pay with PayPal than swiping your credit card. But changing consumer behavior is an enormously difficult task. PayPal played with geo-location leveraging GPS and Wi-Fi for iOS and Android. These technologies are what powers Square's hands free payment system 'Pay with Square. But they found that it ended up being a poor experience for the consumer because it sucked the batter life out of their phones. PayPal also warns that it is aware of the potential privacy issues so PayPal Beacon won't constantly track your location unlike other technologies. If you enter a store and decline to check in, or just ignore the prompt entirely, no information is transmitted to PayPal or the merchant. PayPal has also said that there will be no ads served via the platform. As evidenced by PayPal latest app update from last week, the company is making a big bet on creating an in-store experience for both consumers and retailers. It's ambitious to say the least because not only does the payments company have to change the behavior of the consumer (from just swiping a card) but it also has to convince retailers and the 100 million plus PayPal users that it is worth it. Marcus says that providing a frictionless experience for both parties will be the key to success when changing behavior.

Bluetooth Low Energy: Allows connected devices to communicate with each other while keeping the energy consumption of the devices at a very low level. The transaction should take place without GPS, other apps running, or even without a phone signal. PayPal Beacon: A small hardware device that runs on its own Wi-Fi, plugs into an outlet and serves as a beacon to other devices. It updates itself and the storekeeper doesn't have to touch it at all. It will track your location according to privacy issues. It is completely up to you whether you accept or decline Beacon when you enter the store. A hands free check in payment device.

Identify one ITGS social/ethical concern in the article. Privacy, Anonymity 4. Describe ITGS terminology and systems. iPhone smartphone - Apple's iPhone smartphone that includes various smart features such as receiving e-mail, and application, more than just the average phone. Location recognition - the feature on the iPhone that allows the users to be recognized by their location near wifi hubs. Apple was ordered to encrypt location data of people using iPhones to address privacy concerns but the users claim that the device secretly collected information of the users' whereabouts. 5. If possible, describe a solution to the concern (issue). A solution to the privacy issue would be for users to turn off the location-recognition features on their iPhones so that Apple doesn't have access to your phone. Apple needs to be more careful with their data collection process, as well as encrypting the data so there is no breach of privacy of its users, or completely get rid of the whole system itself.

Data can be automatically synchronized across a network. The app can store data created on the phone itself, all the while also synchronizing the same data with a cloud service or a data center. The storage space taken up by CouchDB's NoSQL has efficient use of working memory. When it is embed in an app, it can still keep the app to be under the 20 mb download limit, and doesn't drain the battery.
