Why is the US introducing a bill to limit tracking? Explain problems with implementing a no-tracking law. may 17 jen
  •
Why is the US introducing a bill to limit tracking? The US is introducing a bill to limit tracking because practically every website you visit keep track of at least some activity for some conventional purposes, while some aren't (such as preventing you to vote twice in a poll). With this bill, the users will be able to have the Do Not Track option while visiting the website. Explain problem with implementing a no-tracking law. The problem with implementing a no-tracking law is that once the law is passed, users will still have a hard time of knowing whether or not a site is tracking them. Not all sites will honor the no-tracking law, and because they don't honor it, they probably won't tell their users' that they're still being tracked, along with what information is being gathered for what purpose.

If passed, it would "accelerate" the net down a path that could lead to governments everywhere sanitising online content so citizens only get what those in power think they should see... What does this mean? may 19 nat
  •
This means that once the bill passes, the government will have control, and block any sites that they think people should not see, and this quote is saying that the people will only be able to see what the government approves of, leaving them with no freedom on the internet.

Crime Map Beta - Trulia - 9 views

What is the value of this? all sept 29 Jang

The crime map is a site that shows the amount of crimes committed in an area. The map gives specific information about what kind crime was committed, the location and time of the crime. The site also gives data of places that crimes do not happen frequently. This crime map website can be really useful for avoiding crime scenes and being aware of crimes that are happening in your neighborhood. If you want to move to a new place you can look at the crime map to see if your new neighborhood is safe and crime free. This site is still on beta and only have information on few states in America. I think a lot of people would use this site if it have data for all the countries in the world. However keeping up with new information everyday would be very hard because there are so many crimes happening all over the world and the site would need to be updated every few minutes.

Amazon Malfunction Raises Doubts About Cloud Computing - NYTimes.com - 2 views

  •
Describe the two issues that came up from the technical problems that interrupted computer services provided by Amazon. Why is the cloud model gaining popularity? List the problems that companies reported. april 28 az
  •
    1) Describe the two issues that came up from the technical problems that interrupted computer services provided by Amazon. One of the issues is that Amazon need to reconsider the contracts that cover cloud services such as how much to pay for backup and recovery services, including paying extra for data centers in different locations. The reason for this is because small businesses are less apt to pay for extensive backup and recovery services. The second issue would be many companies are relying too much on remote computers that are beyond their control. So they need to reconsider that also. The technical problem that interrupted computer services provided by Amazon told its customers and users that there may be a reliability problem with Amazon's service in online computing in the cloud. Companies and businesses operation network now revolves a lot around these remote network systems, so this also affects how companies will reconsider their use of exporting their files and data as opposed to keeping them within the company walls. 2) Why is the cloud model gaining popularity? Because owning a data center is high maintenance and therefore expensive. By using the cloud model, companies are avoiding the costs and headaches of running their own data centers. They just simply tap in, over the Web, to computer processing and storage without owning the actual machines or operating software. Businesses can also save their time by outsourcing to the cloud to save having to keep track of running their own data centers. 3) List the problems that companies reported. ( Unable to access data Service interruptions Sites being shut down

How can iphone be hijacked? How can a user tell if she is being SMS attacked? April 26 woo

was i supposed to do this? it wasnt on the list so i didnt know...

    1. How can iphone be hijacked? The experts say that what you would know when your iphone is being hijacked is when one giveaway is if you receive a text message containing a single square character. If that happens, he suggests you immediately turn off your iPhone. The iPhone can be hijacked through a series of invisible SMS message bursts that hijacks the iPhone. The attacker would then be able to control all the functions on the iPhone, as well as continue to send messages to hijack more phones. 2. How can a user tell if she is being SMS attacked? The researchers said the hack involves sending a series of mostly invisible SMS bursts that effectively hijack an iPhone. From thereon, a hacker could control all the functions on the iPhone, such as e-mailing, dialing contacts - and, most alarmingly, sending more text messages to hijack even more iPhones. A user can tell if she is being SMS attacked if they receive a message containing a square character. Prevention measures include immediately turning off your iPhone.

Foxconn: Robots don't complain or die | The Economist - 3 views

    Summary m12 nov 2 jenny
  •
Foxconn's employment ways have come to light. With suicide cases of their workers jumping out of the window. Foxconn say that they will be replacing a large amount of human labor with robots by 2012. And that they will move the workers up the value chain beyond basic manufacture working to increase productivity and innovation. However, it's for sure that some workers will be losing their jobs. Because of China's economic development, the costs are increasing, and whether or not they will be able to maintain a cheap "China price." Some may consider moving to other Asian countries for cheaper labor. However, Germany's Mittelstand firm that has a highly automated manufacturing system is just as competitive with China, but it isn't worried. Chinese authorities will continuously monitor the situation of how China will come to develop similarly to the West.
