Citizens Around the Country Consider Banning Traffic Cameras - 0 views

  •
"Petition drives are under way in six cities with the goal of offering local residents the opportunity to vote in the next election on whether automated ticketing should continue or not."
  •
This article on the banning of traffic cameras meets all of the requirements for ITGS because the article introduces and establishes/expands on the ideas found on the ITGS Triangle. Various Social and Ethical issues are established by the protest currently occurring with the protest to get red of these "robot cops". One of the Social and Ethical issues introduces is Policies. The government currently enforces the policies that allow the use of these traffic cameras on highways and on many of the streets in our communities/societies today. These policies restrict drivers from ever attempting to cross a red light or do thing that may be inappropriate when driving. With these policies, traffic cameras are allowed to take pictures of drivers and their license plate if committing a crime. States like Maryland a protesting against these policies and laws enforced by the government. This article also introduces stakeholders, which are the people driving in their cars, and the government that enforces the practice of these cameras. These Cameras are also the IT system that the article introduces. This article including or referencing an IT system is the single most important aspect of the article. If this article did not introduce the importance of an IT system it would not be reliable to analyze for the ITGS triangle.

Iran's Protests: Why Twitter Is the Medium of the Movement - TIME - 4 views

  •
In the most recent Iranian elections, the government censored many websites on the Internet in order to prevent news and other information from leaking the country/"classified governmental issues within the election". The Iranian people started using social networks (mainly Twitter) to spread the information of governmental oppression around both nationally and through out the world. After Twitter started blocking such sites, Iranians started using their cellphones as the method of sending out information on the injustices occurring during the election.

This is a very interesting article. I find it interesting that Iran is afraid of the word of their government is getting out, so they block one of the most used wrbsites on the internet, I feel as though you could have argued the point that the tweets were not neccesarily the most reliable. As said in the article, "The vast body of information about current events in Iran that circulates on Twitter is chaotic, subjective and totally unverifiable. It's impossible to authenticate sources. It's also not clear who exactly is using Twitter within Iran, especially in English. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the bulk of tweets are coming from "hyphenated" Iranians not actually in the country who are getting the word out to Western observers, rather than from the protesters themselves, who favor other, less public media."

BlackBerry denies India email access deal as struggle continues | Technology | guardian... - 0 views

This is a news report that RIM(research in motion ) I denying claims that India is now able to access the messages that many send through RIM secure network. This access includes company messages. However RIM refutes these claims and states they don't have access to any of this information. This is one part of a greater story India's government is not the only government that had problems with RIM due to lack of equality of service and the fact that RIM has the best encryption on their messages. There are many stakeholders such as RIM who are running a business that desires to make a profit and realize on their reputation on security, any company that uses blackberry service. The government that wants to have access to the messages to protect their national security, and finally the average consumer that loves using blackberry for their everyday lives. for the primary stakeholder which is RIM social and ethical issues are security, and reliability and integrity. Security refers to the protection of the blackberries encrypted network. The reliability and security concerns RIM's reputation for their secure networks. the primary scenario in this case is business and employment from various points of view, and the IT system is the blackberry cell phones.

Rural Doctor Finds Benefits in Electronic Medical Records - NYTimes.com - 1 views

  •
In looking at this article and the other articles that I have post The main It IT system is a database to store the medical records of the patients of doctors. In theory this would be great for everyone. There will be less paper waste, and it would be easier to pull up patient information at the doctor's office. Its true potential can be achieved if each doctor's database can be connected to created to create a network so any doctor can access the patients information nationally or internationally. The primary issue however, is that the doctors have no standard. Some doctors are not willing to make a transfer because there are to many implications to actually becoming all digital. So that is the issue, since there are no standard the doctors are not willing to adapt. Now this issue can affect a number of stakeholder's. The doctors can see the benefits and draw backs of this standard issue. The doctor's who adopt EHR, actually save a lot of money in the long run, and are on better terms with insurance companies, in the cases where doctors don't use EHR and if a standard is developed they will suffer for it. They will not be able to process patient information quickly, and be on bad terms with insurance companies, and the U.S government(since the government wants to only have EHR or EMR). If a standard is not developed its the patient that will suffer the most. In this world that that we live in International travel is a common place, many people can get injured abroad a EMR can give life saving information to the doctors from the foreign country. This article displays the particular benefits of EMR, the article above me is the reasons doctors do not want to adopt to EMR, and the article before mine displays the governments interest to change all the paper records to EMR.

"China defends internet censorship" - 3 views

  •
Chinese government refuses to fully admit the extent of internet censorship enforced within the country, expanding beyond the realm of securing internet browsing in order to prevent pornographic sites and other inappropriate or harmful content. Government officials state that political enforcement for internet censorship, does not suppress the human rights of individual expression on the internet. However, many organizations and groups do argue that Chinese efforts to regulate the data being seen is aimed upon preventing perspectives of the public to be heard through the web.

RFID Implants Found to Cause Cancer Tumors - 0 views

  •
It would seem like a great idea to be able to see patient's medical records on the spot, clearly and accurately. However, RFID's should not be the technology used to do so. Some patients have had RFIDs implanted into their skin for doctors to scan but in rats, no less humans, there have been cases where links between the use of RFIDS under the skin and cancer has been linked together. Many people would know about this, especially if they were to have the procedure done but this isnt the problem. Companies using the technology are practicing it on those who cannot protect themselves from its  harm. Patients who have Alzheimer disease are commonly practiced on. The question that poses from this is what and will the government do anything to stop these companies, why was it approved of and is it worth the medical advantages?

"The public face of this is a single portal, dc.gov, which allows residents to do almost anything that in the past would have involved either picking up the phone (and hanging on and on) or going to an office and waiting. The site not only lets them find out about every imaginable aspect of the city, but also provides them with a means of acting on the information. This is not just a matter of printing out forms, but often of filling them in and submitting them online too. It is possible to renew a driving licence, pay a parking fine, report broken traffic lights, request a visit from the rubbish-collection service, get all manner of permits, see planning applications and pay local taxes. "We tend to think of hacking as bad, and hackers as evil. But as well as the ones wearing white hats, ie the ones who are on our side and checking out vulnerabilities that others might exploit, there are the techno-geeks who are all dressed up and with nowhere to go. Until now. On the 11th March, the UK's Home Office, Cabinet Office and Ministry of Justice opened their doors to 10 technical experts from http://www.rewiredstate.com who used data.gov.uk and the web to develop tools and services that help people."

The Hindu Business Line : ArcelorMittal may tap Indian IT cos for infrastructure play i... - 0 views

  •
The issue of globalization and cultural diversity is raised in this article which deals with the realm of business. Steel Maker ArcelorMittal is planning to outsource certain IT infrastructure to India and smaller European countries such as Poland in order to be able to save money and reduce costs. The stakeholders in this situation are the CEO's of ArcelorMittal, the local IT companies in India and the small European countries being outsourced to, as well as the governments of India and the small European countries, the current IT workers of ArcelorMittal, the IT workers in India and the small European Countries, and the people who buy steel from ArcelorMittal. The IT systems involved in this scenario are PCs, servers, data centers, and networks. IT workers in India and small European countries such as Poland will be working with ensuring privacy on these systems as well as taking care of their maintenance. A positive issue that results from the outsourcing of ArcelorMittal is that the company will be able to save money by paying its workers less. This would lead to a decrease in steel prices as well, which would be beneficial for the consumer. Also, outsourcing gives good job opportunities to people in the countries being outsourced to. However, through outsourcing many current IT workers of the company will most likely loose their jobs. Indian workers are also being exploited due to the fact that they are being payed less than a worker in a more developed nation would be payed. Lastly, local IT companies need to compete for workers.
