Korinne Thoren 14 September 2011 NGA Kids Overview: NGA Kids is a site created by the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. This website provides an interactive page where kids can make their own art and zoom in on the works of famous artists, providing an overall collaborative exposure to art. NGA is geared toward younger students, as denoted by the 'Kids" but I think there are tools and games on the site that could be utilized with students up to middle school age. NGA also has resources dealing with the National Gallery of Art available on its page. Overall, I think this is a very fun website and although it is geared toward younger students I really did enjoy playing the games, arguably making it a good way to pass time for older audiences as well. Content: The overall content of this website is good, although the immediate site is not super informative, it provides many educational and interactive games for kids. NGA does contain links to other portions of the National Gallery of Art, which are helpful and more informative, making them a good resource for older students looking for information. Contact information for the website creators is readily accessible and there are explanatory directions for the games and activities on the site. Design: NGA's design is well put together and almost reminds me of looking at a National Geographic magazine with its black and yellow layout. Information and games are easily accessible and labeled and the same basic format is used throughout the site. The links provided by NGA work well and are informative and the use of graphics and animations really bring the website to life for it's users. Overall, it is a well-designed site and easy to use.

Stephanie Mecca 2/5/12 Overview: The purpose of this site it to provide art students from the ages of 4 to 12 years of age with a fun, interactive game site to both play and learn through art. There are a variety of games ranging from drawing different types of pictures to game shows to help students determine different types of sculptures and what they are made of. As students play games they are able to learn some art history and are quizzed and art basics which are helpful resources to the viewer. Overall this is a very interactive site where students can learn as they play. Content: After clicking on the little figure to enter the site the viewer is able to read about the site, what its purpose is and who created the site. If the viewer has all ready read this information they have the option to "skip the intro". Although there aren't any links that allow the viewer to read about the sites authors there is a basic link on the main page so that the viewer can redirect the main Abright-Know Gallery website which provides information about the Gallery, copyright information, and contact information. The quality of the Artgames site is great; the site is well organized and understandable for young viewers to follow. Design: On the main page of the Artgames site the viewer can see that the developer of the site is the Normal Force which used Macromedia flash technology to create the website. Once the viewer enters the interactive site they are greeted by a page that has numerous pictures that are links to different games. These links are easy to follow and are usually pictures of the different games. There are helpful directions to read through before playing the games and the same format is used throughout the site. Although there isn't any place in the site that the viewer can find out when the site was last updated and there are no outside links.

Ryan Magrum Sept 15th, 2011 Overview: This site is a tour through the exhibits of a natural history museum. The purpose is to experience the museum without actually going there in person. There are many menu options on the home page for kids and for educational purposes. I like this site personally because for students it's like a field trip without ever having to leave the class room (computer room). The site seems fairly main-stream and appropriate for all ages. Content: This is the basic museum home page on the internet. The site has all the information for the museum (contact info, research and curation, business…). There are many links to other similar sites as well as games for kids and to resources for teachers and to merchandising. There are many pictures to lure the user into the site. In terms of the galleries page, The site is a basic tour with captions for each of the interactive picture of real things in the museum that explain what you are seeing in the picture - what a tour guide will tell you. The pictures are mostly for highlights of the museum geared to getting you to visit in person. There is a plethora of information within that is very easy for students and the public to learn from. Design: The site is easy to navigate. All the pictures and colors make the user feel welcome. At first, getting into the specifics of the site and finding what exactly you are looking for is a little difficult but the ease of navigation allows the user to orient their self in the contents after a little exploring. There is a search box so the user can search the site for specifics contributing even more to the ease of navigation. All the advertisements in the site are relevant to education and/or the museum and appropriate for kids.

Laura Rice 2/5/12 Overview: The purpose of this site is to provide knowledge and promote international art programs. The websites intended audience is for adults hoping to encourage people to seek the arts. I would also have to say this website is more beneficial to those that live in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. They provide information about dance, festivals, film, galleries, gardens, history, libraries, media, museums, music, parks, and theaters. It also provides maps of the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. These maps provide access to arts all around the cities. There are also a number of art lesson plans for all ages of students. This website is a great resource for information about different art programs. It is well organized making it useful for anyone that accesses it. Content: This website provides information about different organizations throughout cites. A list of things to do provides information about activities taking place in the cities such as dance, festivals, film, galleries, gardens, history, libraries, media, museums, music, parks, and theaters. The next set of links shows maps of the cities with arrows to the art locations. A calendar outlines all art activities taking place in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. It also provides great resources for parents, teachers, and seniors. For the parents the website has many links that their kids would love to attend such as children museums, music programs, and plays. Teachers are provided with activities their kids may enjoy as well. In the organization section there are links to different types of art organizations. There is also an area that allows people to get involved whether to donate money or volunteer their help. At the bottom of the page there's information about the programs, ways to reach some one for more knowledge, and the legal rights of the website. Design: The website is well organized and h

Gary Allen Jan. 23, 2011 Overview: This site is centered around everything Greek, from its history and mythology to the olympics and even the geography of the country. It seems to be geared toward a more mature audience such as high school students and above. It is a highly interactive site and is very easy to navigate and use. Content: This site is very complete in its details and the author is very reputable. The copyright is a few years old, but I've noticed no other shortcomings otherwise. The lower navigation menu includes a sitemap, glossary, bookstore, course directory, bio of the author, and contact info. Design: Simple yet effective, the design of this site is almost the perfect balance of plainness and eye catching items. All of the links loaded very quickly for me and it is very easy to navigate through the site. The ad bar on the right side of the website seems a little large and distracting, but that may just be on my browser. There is a forum included along with a photo gallery and even essay assistance, all of which I feel are useful resources for anyone interested in ancient Greece.

Chelsea Eisenbarth 9/11/11 Overview: This website is made for the general public to enjoy as they learn about the Lewis and Clark expedition. Students, parents, teachers can all find something to look at. There are photos and an interactive timeline to help put in perspective the location and time of the different stories that make up the story of Lewis and Clark. The information compiled by National Geographic is easy to follow, read, and understand. Content: This website contains easy obtainable information on Lewis and Clark. It is well organized in a timeline with information, a photo gallery, and even lesson plans or activities that can be used in the classroom. The information is easy to understand and fun to explore. The information seems to be current and the different links work without stress or frustrations. Design: This website took a refreshing new design approach using a timeline to help organize their information. The timeline was easy to use and loaded with ease and efficiency. The graphics were nice and effective providing pictures to go along with the information in the readings. The site was easy to navigate and the links seemed up to date although the copyright was from 1996. Due to the content of the information I don't think this date makes much of a difference and the information still seemed accurate.

Bryana Wilson September 21, 2009 Website Review http://www.shakespeares-sonnets.com/ "Shakespeare's Sonnets" is a site dedicated to 154 of Shakespeare's sonnets. This site gives a lot of input about the sonnets and their essential meaning. It's a great means of obtaining a look at the already acquired material as well as gain insight into each sonnet. It is a nice collection, put together relatively well, and contains a great collection of pictures in the gallery relating to his sonnets. CONTENT Shakespeare's sonnets are the core subjects of this website. It is made up of a collection of 154 sonnets written by Shakespeare and includes a commentary for each one. These sonnets are written in the Elizabethan period- so the site includes a variety of Elizabethan paintings as well. There are links to all of the sections in the site on the homepage. You can view the sonnets in groups of about 50, as well as groups separated by categories- such as Valentine poems. The site is aimed toward people, probably students, wishing to read and gain insight into Shakespeare's sonnets. I found the information very valuable. If there are any questions or comments about the site, there is a link to the Oxquarry Books Ltd website. Oxquarry Books is a trustworthy organization and I trust the information given is authentic. It was last modified in 2009, and given the subject, I believe they are ahead of the game. However, it is true that information can always be refined and edited. DESIGN "Shakespeare's Sonnets" is put together in a rather spasmodic way. The information is fairly easy to find but is set up in a jumbled sort of manner, including a table of contents on the main page. I thought it could have definitely been organized in a more efficient manner. When entering a new section of the site the table of content remains at the top, making it fairly easy to maneuver about. Daniel Goe Web Site Review September 20, 2009 http://mtnathlete.com/ The Website Mountain Athlete goes over workout plans and techniques for the outdoor athlete. There are links for rehabbing an injury, exercises, store, and photo gallery. Content: The main objective of this website is to help people who don't know a lot about how to workout and what to do to workout properly. The kind of working out that is seen on this site is for fit people who are ready to be challenged mentally as well as physically. The objective is to lift weights while keeping your heart rate above 150. It's conditioning as well as strength. Design: The home page has an updated you tube video of people inside the gym working out. It shows how drastic the workouts are and the toll it can take on your body. Everyone in this gym is motivated and pushes one another to do their best and finish no matter how tired a person is. Attribution: I like the website because it is very simple and to the point. On the left are links to everything you need to know about what is going on in Mountain Athlete. The design is simple just like the workouts performed but overall the website gets the job done just like the athletes on this site get it done in the gym. No matter how it looks in the end the final project is amazing.

Ron Morgan September 19, 2009 This website is dedicated to the artist Alphonse Mucha. The website's purpose is to showcase Mucha's artwork and to sell the prints of his artwork. The audience of this website is anyone interested in Mucha'a artwork, whether that is buyers or fans. The viewers have access to galleries, a biography, a store, and exhibitions. The site serves its purpose of showing the viewer the artwork of Mucha. The website is successful in this sense. Content Summary: At a first look the viewer can become engaged with the website. It is visually appealing. The information given is up to date and accurate. The website is organized and has an easy to use index. The content is relevant to the purpose of the website. The information given is appropriate. The website has contact information that can be utilized. There didn't seem to be any links to other sites but I don't think other links would have been necessary. Design Content: This website is visually appealing and is organized well. This website offers quite a bit of information and showcases a number of artworks. The contact information is listed. The index is useful and organized in a very efficient manner. The content is sufficient and appropriate. The photos are of good quality. Overall this website is designed well.

Museum of Web Art is a site intended to give the public an alternative experience to viewing art. However this site is inadequate because it becomes a maze of links in which all roads dead-end to unavailable images. There is no immediate knowledge of the sponsor or of review dates. The site itself seems to be an abandoned ship, a "ghost-site" if you will. This site comes off as unreliable and inaccurate. I suggest staying away from this site and go visit a local gallery or museum instead. It'll be a lot less confusing and you'll actually become exposed to art.

great information, great design, reliable resource

One of the most famous paintings by Edgar Hilaire Germain Degas [French, 1834-1917. It captures dancing, a contemporary art, and exhibits dancers so vividly as if she is actually dancing. Edgar Degas began an increasing number of paintings on different poses of ballet dancers. And they were an immediate success.

Nathan Wonnacott 9/9/11 Overview: The Smithsonian Institution web page is a way to allow people to access the galleries without visiting the museum and provides insightful ways to teach students as well. The target audience is parents, teachers, and even students. Some of its topics are history, science, art, and technology. I believe this site to be a very useful tool in educating. Content: The first impression of the Smithsonian webpage is a sense of variety. There are pictures of exhibits and links to others not depicted. It doesn't appear childish, but more for anyone interested in American history. Once I explored, I found that the links work successfully and are full of up to date information. The website does leave out links to other sites, which limits resources to the site alone. It also doesn't specify an author, leaving only the sponsor to be contacted. Design: The setup is both fast and easy with organized pull-down menus. The pictures and references to their exhibit are detailed, useful, and attention grabbing. Activities are also available, and help to locate new information. The pages are current, last revised on July 6, 2011. The site is effective and worth visiting.

Oil on canvas painting by Edgar Degas created around 1872. This painting has an orchestral pit view and appears to have adopted a very mature style of depicting the art form.

This Painted Art is a reflection of the ability of Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn as an artist and the observer is treated to a display of perfection in figure formation, body language and incorporation of colors.

This website provides more insite into the world of art through the study of art history. Content: This website has an art history timeline on its homepage that can show students the main movements and periods in art history and when they occured. The website also has a side bar complete with all major movements and artists that the veiwer can click on and learn more about. Upon clicking on an artist featured in the sidebar, one can see some of the artists work, a biography of the artists life and what style, medium and country their work was done in. The same goes for clicking on a style of art, the veiwer is given a detailed description of the art style, shown examples of work done in that style and artists that practiced it. This is a great website for older students to find out more about art, so they can better their own work and write papers

This site is a great site to use in conjunction with another search engine like wikipedia. Although this site is art based, it's a great starting point when reviewing or researching an artist. This site guides you to museums, archives, artists, book, articles and more relating to whatever you'd like to research in the arts. It is like the beginning of a maze so to speak that will guide you on your way toward more legitimate sites with more resent and filtered information relating to the topic of your choice. The design is much like that of wikipedia, tool bars on the left give more specific places within this search engine to do some researching but after clicking an artist you are given many picture of there work which is of course aethetically pleasings. Although unlike wikipedia, not just anyone can change information on the site and there are verification dates in the upper right letting the viewer know that the page they are on isn't giving false information.

Laura Rice 2/5/12 Overview: The purpose of this website is to expand knowledge about artists and their work. This website provides a large number of artists, articles, art news, and images. This websites audience is anyone who is interested in art, teacher, student, or buyer. Over all this website allows people to search by artist, work title, or art museum. One really cool feature about this website is that it allows viewers to see the top 30 artist searched. This feature is really helpful to art students because sometimes you don't know what artist you want to research and so on so this is a great way to start into things. The art cyclopedia is an awesome research engine if you're looking for a certain piece of art as well. When you click on an artist it brings you to a page with a short history of the artist, which museum the art is in, what pieces are on the market, image archives, articles, multimedia, books, and their galleries. This is a great website for information and overall knowledge. Content: As mentioned before this website excels in area of imagery and information about individual piece of art. The art search engine provides visitors the opportunity to search by artist, title of the work, art museum it is located. If the viewer didn't know any of these aspects of the certain piece of art they could browse by the medium or time period. This website has an incredible amount of artist's material. For each artist there is a short history of his or her life, a list of museums there art is in, and any type of multimedia that has been published about the artist. There is also access to different articles about art as well as art news. Viewers can also order posters or prints of their favorite art which is another beneficial aspect to the site. This website provides viewers with the access to thousands of artists work. Design: Overall the design is good. The website is organized neatly and clear
