The purpose of the National Art Education Association website is to help with the growth of the art educators' profession, to help adapt to change and new information, as well as leadership. The website specifically has written that its mission is to advance the visual arts education to fulfill human potential and promote global understanding. The intended audience for this website is more specifically for Art Educator, but anyone involved in the visual arts would find it helpful. It provides resources such as mentoring, networking, conference information, lesson plans, important art world news, and developing and sharing art education resources. I think it is a very successful website based on the content and design review guidelines.

The mission of the website of the National Art Education Association (NAEA) is to create a "dynamic community of practice where visual arts teachers, scholars, researchers and professors, students, administrators, and art museum educators, and artists can come together around a shared belief in the power of the arts in developing human potential." The website contains news surrounding art education along with events that are happening. It also contains lesson plans, access to the art education community, advocacy resources, research and knowledge of art education, grants and various opportunities, and careers available. This website seems to be an easily navigable, one-stop location where you can gather a lot of information about art education.

This site is a great site to use in conjunction with another search engine like wikipedia. Although this site is art based, it's a great starting point when reviewing or researching an artist. This site guides you to museums, archives, artists, book, articles and more relating to whatever you'd like to research in the arts. It is like the beginning of a maze so to speak that will guide you on your way toward more legitimate sites with more resent and filtered information relating to the topic of your choice. The design is much like that of wikipedia, tool bars on the left give more specific places within this search engine to do some researching but after clicking an artist you are given many picture of there work which is of course aethetically pleasings. Although unlike wikipedia, not just anyone can change information on the site and there are verification dates in the upper right letting the viewer know that the page they are on isn't giving false information.

Laura Rice 2/5/12 Overview: The purpose of this website is to expand knowledge about artists and their work. This website provides a large number of artists, articles, art news, and images. This websites audience is anyone who is interested in art, teacher, student, or buyer. Over all this website allows people to search by artist, work title, or art museum. One really cool feature about this website is that it allows viewers to see the top 30 artist searched. This feature is really helpful to art students because sometimes you don't know what artist you want to research and so on so this is a great way to start into things. The art cyclopedia is an awesome research engine if you're looking for a certain piece of art as well. When you click on an artist it brings you to a page with a short history of the artist, which museum the art is in, what pieces are on the market, image archives, articles, multimedia, books, and their galleries. This is a great website for information and overall knowledge. Content: As mentioned before this website excels in area of imagery and information about individual piece of art. The art search engine provides visitors the opportunity to search by artist, title of the work, art museum it is located. If the viewer didn't know any of these aspects of the certain piece of art they could browse by the medium or time period. This website has an incredible amount of artist's material. For each artist there is a short history of his or her life, a list of museums there art is in, and any type of multimedia that has been published about the artist. There is also access to different articles about art as well as art news. Viewers can also order posters or prints of their favorite art which is another beneficial aspect to the site. This website provides viewers with the access to thousands of artists work. Design: Overall the design is good. The website is organized neatly and clear

This website provides more insite into the world of art through the study of art history. Content: This website has an art history timeline on its homepage that can show students the main movements and periods in art history and when they occured. The website also has a side bar complete with all major movements and artists that the veiwer can click on and learn more about. Upon clicking on an artist featured in the sidebar, one can see some of the artists work, a biography of the artists life and what style, medium and country their work was done in. The same goes for clicking on a style of art, the veiwer is given a detailed description of the art style, shown examples of work done in that style and artists that practiced it. This is a great website for older students to find out more about art, so they can better their own work and write papers

Korinne Thoren 14 September 2011 Art Project-Powered by Google Overview: The purpose of Art Project is to allow users exposure to some of the world's best works of art without ever having to leave their home or classroom. The website is geared to older students, I think this site would work well for anyone middle school aged or older. My overall impression of the site is a good, I particularly like the quality and quantity of artwork users have availability to and the virtual touring is fun; the only thing I did not like was that it took a while to get used to the virtual tour navigation tools, however there is a instructional video provided on the website for users. Content: This interactive, virtual touring website gives its users access to 17 of the most world renowned art museums, allowing users to view all works of art or tour the museum virtually. This makes for exposure to thousands of famous pieces of art over a very unique and fun experience. The site also allows users to view very high quality, detailed photos of the art that can be zoomed into, which would not be found through just a Google search. Each painting contains the title of the work and the artist, but no mediums or dimensions are provided. There is a "create an artwork collection" feature that allows users to compile their favorite works, which could be useful for studying a specific movement or time period. The website does not provide contact information for the site creators or links to the actual museums. Design: The overall design of Art Project is superb. Upon opening, the site really draws users in because of the changing and vivid, zoomed up view of artworks used as the background. The listing of museums and artworks on the left-hand side is very clean and simple, thus making for a very appealing website design overall.

Korinne Thoren 14 September 2011 Art History.net Overview: Art History.net is a website providing information about art history, including: famous artists, art styles and periods, and art mediums. This is a website intended for older students, middle school aged and up. The site does not provide a lot of available resources but I think it is useful for gaining background and basic information. Content: This website contains information about art history but there is no information provided about authors of the text or any dates of publication or revision. Basic information dealing with art history is presented, but outside of that the user is not given much else. Also, a disclaimer at the bottom of the page reads, "Information and materials on this web site may be incorrect, unsuitable, incomplete and/or outdated. Users of this web site are responsible for verifying the accuracy, completeness and suitability of all information and materials" making the user wary of trusting the site. The content of arthistory.net is well organized and easy to read, however I personally cannot get over the disclaimer, making this a site I would only use to gain basic, informal information. Design: Art History.net's website design is not as exciting or clever as the other websites I have explored, however the overall design is simple and somewhat appealing. The site's information is displayed well and easy to navigate because the same site layout is used throughout. There are also a few graphics on the site, but they do not really add much to the overall appeal or serve that much of a purpose. Overall, the design needs some work but the site is usable.

Stephanie Mecca 2/5/12 Overview: The purpose of this site is to provide information on different types of art and the artists that work with art. The site includes the Art 21 episodes and short videos that can be seen on the PBS TV channel and includes written blogs about the Art 21 artists that are featured in the episodes. The intended audience is not just for education uses but anybody can enter the site to learn about art. Teachers could use this site to teach students about different artists and about the types of art. There are some links to the PBS site that provides other resources but there are not many other resources. Content: From the main page the viewer can see that the site includes information about artists and includes videos and episodes. The intended audience can be seen as art-seeking individuals by just looking at the overall art theme. The site douse include a whole section about the site and the people who work on the site and on the Art 21 episodes. You can read about the sites policies and terms of use, you can also easily email any of the board of trustees. The content of the whole site serves a general art purpose including current and past art. The site is well organized but doesn't clarify the currency of the information, meaning it doesn't include revision dates or updates information. Design: The overall design of the site is appealing, with the bright pink color and clear pictures. There is an easy-to-read top menu that you can click on and the copyright is at the bottom of each page. The site is easy to navigate though there are no directions on how to use the site. There some links to the PBS web site but not many other external links. The video files load easily and are clearly seen and heard. There is a lot of information to make it a sufficient site devoted to artists and art. The site uses the same basic format throughout and provides contact information for further information.

Shepherd Web Resources Evaluation The website, Americans for the Arts (www.americansforthearts.org) is an interactive resource website that specifically dedicated to promoting, sustaining, and supporting all art education within the United States. The main intended audience of this website is educators, professors, students, and individuals interested in supporting the arts within their communities. The website includes the local, state, and advocacy for art education to precisely portray their purpose to their audience. The research for supporting the arts is included along with forums to connect to resources and alliances within communities across the nation. The website seems to be full of valuable information and ways to connect with others within your community to share and explore ways to support the arts. The content of the website is specific and to the point. The mission of the organization is easily found and the creators of the organization can be contacted directly through email. They have a newsletter section along with blogs that keeps the viewer up to date and able to comment and discuss topics online. Their research studies and publications are all uploaded to the website showing that they have dedicated research to proving the importance of the arts. There is a lot of content within this website which is almost overwhelming though when first visiting the site. It would take a lot of time to explore the entirety of this website. The design of the website is modern and nicely organized. The drop down menus allow for the design elements of the website to be consistent throughout the entire website. Important links to different parts of the website are shown in bold blocks that are in yellow and red, demanding attention. Lynnsey Patterson January 23, 2011 Overview: The purpose of this site is to give and promote information about artists in the US as well as to advertise the magazine Art in America. I believe this could be considered a very valuable resource for anyone interested in modern art. The authors consist of very highly qualified individuals such as an art professor of Yale University and a highly respected art curator and critic. Content: This website is packed with content. It contains archives of past issues of the magazine, links to events taking place in the art world, featured artists of the month, books, videos, news, and more. Everything is very well organized in the top margin of the homepage and the contact information is very well labeled under the "contact us" link on the footer. I would however, call this site a little bias in that it only contains information about art in the United States but I wouldn't considered that to necessarily be a bad thing. Design: This site is very aesthetically pleasing in design and is very easy to navigate. Everything appears to be very clear, concise, and appropriate for the audience it is trying to reach.

Kayla Rider January 23, 2010 Overview I found this site and thought it to be a great idea for art classes to incorporate technology into their classrooms. It is aimed at art teachers and students. It grabs the reader right away with its qwerky sayings and great design. Thought it would be a lot of fun to navigate through entirely. Content This website is aimed at the arts. A portion of our lives that is slowly dwindling downward. It creates a technology environment to enrich and learn more about art. It is geared towards teachers and students but anyone can benefit from this website. Design Of course, being an artsy website, it is colorful and fun to look at. However, the overall design of it is quite applicable as well. It is easy to navigate through and catches a readers attention quickly. Overall, I believe it has great potential for a classroom and/ or a fun afternoon of learning more about art and yourself.

Elise Verley September 9, 2011 http://www.artpoints.net Overview: At first this site seems like it might be a valuable resource for art teachers to use, but after spending time on the site it has the feeling of not being maintained. The logo says "for artists, art educators, and art lovers" since the site is offering resources for so many people it is overextending its reach. Content: It has ideas for lessons, but since it didn't seem to be regularly updated the content may run out. It had a calendar of art shows and other art related opportunities, which it advertises as "most complete on the web". Navigating the site I repeatedly notice articles that were posted in 2010 or earlier. This site has a promising premise but falls short on execution. Hopefully in the future they will gain the resources to keep the site up to date. Design: The site has a nice design with a welcoming earthy palette. Articles have no dates of publication so there was no way to tell how long ago they were posted. There is not a search function for the site, but it is easy to navigate around the site. It has spammy ads on the sides.

This site is a site done by Contra Costa College in California that gives other suggested sites for art research. I praticularly liked the art history link which brings you to a page filled with sites that are under movements of art, themes, and even countries. With everything clearly outlined and with easy navigation this is a site that anyone could use for the arts. The design is nothing eye popping, this is simply a site to start with that guides you on a clearer and more narrow research path. The site is updated with more and more sites and while this overload of information that can be used may confuse the viewer it is also a great starter site and really helps you narrow the topic down.

Korinne Thoren 14 September 2011 NGA Kids Overview: NGA Kids is a site created by the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. This website provides an interactive page where kids can make their own art and zoom in on the works of famous artists, providing an overall collaborative exposure to art. NGA is geared toward younger students, as denoted by the 'Kids" but I think there are tools and games on the site that could be utilized with students up to middle school age. NGA also has resources dealing with the National Gallery of Art available on its page. Overall, I think this is a very fun website and although it is geared toward younger students I really did enjoy playing the games, arguably making it a good way to pass time for older audiences as well. Content: The overall content of this website is good, although the immediate site is not super informative, it provides many educational and interactive games for kids. NGA does contain links to other portions of the National Gallery of Art, which are helpful and more informative, making them a good resource for older students looking for information. Contact information for the website creators is readily accessible and there are explanatory directions for the games and activities on the site. Design: NGA's design is well put together and almost reminds me of looking at a National Geographic magazine with its black and yellow layout. Information and games are easily accessible and labeled and the same basic format is used throughout the site. The links provided by NGA work well and are informative and the use of graphics and animations really bring the website to life for it's users. Overall, it is a well-designed site and easy to use.

This website provides a comprehensive explaination of different time periods in art history. Content: This website has easy acess to different periods in the history of art. when you click on a time line, the site gives you a range of years, then different countries that you can click on to get what was happening in that particular country at that time in the history of art. The website is fairly easy to understand and navigate. The information is credible, it comes from a museum website. It also provides the veiwer with a detailed bibliography. This would be a great website for high school students to learn about where art has been, where it is today, and where it is going. The information found on this site will help students write papers with a credible source.

I would also have to say this website is more beneficial to those that live in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. They provide information about dance, festivals, film, galleries, gardens, history, libraries, media, museums, music, parks, and theaters. It also provides maps of the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. These maps provide access to arts all around the cities. There are also a number of art lesson plans for all ages of students. This website is a great resource for information about different art programs. It is well organized making it useful for anyone that accesses it. Content: This website provides information about different organizations throughout cites. A list of things to do provides information about activities taking place in the cities such as dance, festivals, film, galleries, gardens, history, libraries, media, museums, music, parks, and theaters. The next set of links shows maps of the cities with arrows to the art locations. A calendar outlines all art activities taking place in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. It also provides great resources for parents, teachers, and seniors. For the parents the website has many links that their kids would love to attend such as children museums, music programs, and plays. Teachers are provided with activities their kids may enjoy as well. In the organization section there are links to different types of art organizations. There is also an area that allows people to get involved whether to donate money or volunteer their help. Katherine Kerpchar ITEC2360 I found this website to be incredibly helpful specifically in the means of art education. This website is actually a public forum online textbook on art history, and is aimed at a collegiate art level. The website was in a constant format that was easy to follow and learn from, it was also very appealing to look at and clear of clutter. The sponsors and providers of the site were easy to find and had significant amounts of contact information. All of the links worked quick and easy, and a description of the link's site was underneath each link so the user knew what they were getting into. The website's last revision date was easy to find and was very current (January 4th of this year) and the information on the site was very good and up to date as well as organized in an easy to follow format. 

Art 21 is a site dedicated to informing the public about contemporary art of the 21st Century. Providing video of today's Artists at work, in their studio, and behind their thoughts and inspiration of their work. Depending on what medium the viewer is most interested in you can search by a multitude of processes such as Installation, Sculpture, painting, mixed media and more. Or you can watch videos by season all throughout this site. This content educates the audience beyond the borders of their own understanding of art and answers the difficult questions viewers develop when viewing contemporary art. I believe this site is very efficient at educating the public about art. There is a surplus of artists on this site that everyone is sure to find one they can connect to. The videos are engaging and attention catching. All you have to do is press play, and let the learning begin.

The purpose of this site is to get the word out there about art education and to try and secure it for every young person in America. There are a number of resources stating the importance of the arts in schools as well as events that are happening to get the word out. The intended audience seems to be anyone and everyone that can help make a difference. My overall impression is that this is a good resource for someone looking to help the cause as well as get educated about how important the arts are. The design of the site helps to get the message across clearly and effectively.

This website, Incredible Art Lessons, is orangized very well and is very easy to navigate through. The intent and purpose of the website is very clear, it is specifically designed to give support and ideas to art teachers for a wide range of ages. There are many different links that teachers can use to get ideas for new projects from. The website also has lesson plans and ideas for all age groups in school, ranging from elementary lessons to undergraduate lessons. I really liked how the site also provided art project ideas for each holiday. The site also provides online activities for students for each project/idea. The lay out of the website is very easy to use and all of the links are current and helpful. At the bottom on the webpage there is a clear way to contact the creators of the website, and it was last copyrighted in 2009.
