North Carolina and the Civil War : Explore - 0 views

Kerensa Aris 10/12/12 North Carolina and the Civil War The purpose of this site is Civil War education. The intended audience is students, teachers, parents, etc. It is appropriate and educational for any age level. Resources available on the site include links to external sites, pictures from the museum, and interactive media such as videos and virtual tours. My overall impression is that this is a very high quality site maintained by reliable sources and very well designed.  The website was very well designed and easy to use. All pages load quickly and are compatible with multiple browsers. The homepage is attractive and you can tell where you are immediately as well as the site sponsor and the index is readily available. Navigation is very easy, links work properly, and directions are provided for virtual tours. The site contains vast amounts of information that is easy to find and revised often. However material is not added often as the entire site is about the Civil War.  Based on content, the site is very useful for information needs. The content and intended audiences are quickly and easily determined. Authors of the material are clearly defined and information about the authors and sponsors as well as contact information are provided. The purpose of the site is clear, content is complete and well organized, and information is accurate and sufficient for user purposes. Interactivity is provided through various media. Information is reliable and educational.

The American Civil War Home Page - 0 views

Kerensa Aris 10/10/12 Shotgun's Home of the American Civil War: The purpose of this site is to gain information on the Civil War, most information pertains to the Confederacy. The intended audience is both students and teachers, both can collect useful information from the site and it is appropriate for all audiences. The site contains links to many other sites for available resources. My overall impression is that this is a quality site containing pertinent information. There is some bias since the site is run by a southern college, but upon first looking at the site this fact is very clear.  I assessed the content of this site as worth marking for future reference. The site is run by qualified individuals from LSU, and information is useful and trustworthy. The site is revised frequently but new information is not routinely added because it is a Civil War site. The site is well organized and all external links are in working order.  The design of the website is well done and easy to use. All pages download quickly and site indexes are available. The home page could have more detail to make it more eye catching. There are several different kinds of media such as audio and visual files, and likes to further information and useful sites are available. The site is compatible with other browsers, and the content is presented neatly and is organized.

Civil War - 1 views

http://edtech.kennesaw.edu/web/civwar.html Michelle Petty, January 22, 2011 Overview: This site is aimed at informing viewers about the Civil War. It is aimed at kids the most, but would be beneficial for students of all ages writing a report on the Civil War. The site breaks down the Civil War on leaders, battles, states, pictures, and causes of the war, which then takes the viewer to the appropriate site. I am not sure if this is a site I would use, not all the links work and the page looks like several students put the website together as a project. It is easy to use, but again, not too sure on how reliable all the information is. Content: The site is aimed at informing and educating others on the Civil War. The author is clearly listed at the bottom, along with the date it was last updated and how to get in touch with him about questions. However, it was last updated in 2005 and some of the links no longer work. The links that do work, lead the viewer to mostly educational sites with the website endings of .gov and others along those lines, however some lead to regular .com sites that look like they were hardly researched. Design: The design is very simple and easy to navigate. The links to other sites are on the homepage and easy to use for all ages. However, the overall design is cheesy and unprofessional, with links that no longer work and others that lead the viewer to poorly constructed sites. I would not recommend this site, and would not use it in any educational setting.

Chris Riedl 1/23/11 Overview The purpose of civilwar.com is not only to educate all age groups of the historical significance of the Civil War but also to connect its readers with numerous links and articles giving all aspects of the war. Content The basic content of the site is quickly and easily identifiable, however the author and copyright information is not as clear. Overall a great tool for both educators and students. Design The design of the site is very attractive to the eye and the links all seem to be working properly.

Macedonia FAQ: Alexander the Great - 0 views

  •
This website is a good overview of Alexander The Great (King Alexander III of Macedonia.) It includes everything from his early life, to him claiming the throne, his conquests all the way up to his death. This is a great website because Alexander the Great is one of the most important figures in history and essentially merged Western and Eastern civilization. The website is very well organized and all information is under a specific heading. The vocabulary on this website isn't overly advanced so I believe anyone from middle school and up would gain information from this site. There are a lot of useful images, which really add to the website. Although the website is fairly plain, it's main purpose it to pass along information, and this website does just that.

Teaching A People's History - 1 views

Overview: The purpose for exploring this website is to obtain resources to help students look at U.S. history more objectively. The audience that this website is aiming at is teachers of middle/high school U.S. history courses. The available resources of this website are various historical subjects ranging from colonization to the 21st century; and a vast library of U.S. historical themes (e.g. slavery, civil rights movements, etc...). This website does a great job of supplying sufficient information while presenting itself in an appealing way. There numerous links and PDF documents that relate to the specific content area being looked at. Its design is very appealing and is also well organized. It is easy and quick to find information on the website as well. Content: One of the best things that this website accomplishes is its coverage of topics from colonization to the 21st century. Each section has numerous PDF's and/or websites that teachers can use to help teach that content area. Information about the authors/sponsors are readily available under the "About" section. The thing that this website lacks, however, is the revision history; there is only a copyright year. Overall, the website achieves its purpose of giving teachers the tools to help students learn about U.S. history more objectively. Design: This website has a very appealing design to it. Not only does it look nice, but visitors know exactly where they are once the home page loads. The site has an effective layout; the audience only has to click a couple times to get to the information that they need. The downside to the design of the website is the use of multimedia. There is little to no use of graphics, audio, and/or video. The overall design, though, makes this website worth visiting again in the future.
