  •
This is a new organizing tool that I was recently introduced to through reading a fellow cohorter's blog. I LOVE IT! A great way for you, your students, and your PLN to organize your reading lists or even the books you want to read.

Bitly. The power of the link. - 1 views

  •
I use bitly all the time! As a frequent user of Google forms, I shorten the link before I share it. Sometimes I'm asking teachers to write a link on their boards to share with students, so this makes is less cumbersome.
  •
Very nice application. any idea how it compares with tinyurl.com? There doesn't seem to be much difference.

Padlet is the easiest way to create and collaborate in the world - 0 views

  •
Padlet offers students and staff a great way to collaborate with one another on a digital "whiteboard" of sorts.

Online bulletin board. Post notes, links, images, documents, videos and other resources. Share the link and students or colleagues can post responses or additional resources.
  •
twillis6science- These are great ideas for Padlet.
  •
I'm excited to try to incorporate Padlet into my classroom. I think it's a great way to get kids to brainstorm together, or even use as an "exit ticket" for the day. I think both teachers and students can use this as a collaborative tool, to take a survey, to brainstorm, etc. This is a great tool for students and teachers to share ideas with each other. Pinterest would be a similar way for students and teachers to share their ideas with each other, but not exactly the same way. Thanks for sharing, Tamra!

Scrible - 3 views

It looks like this site has a lot of features similar to Diigo. Do you notice any features that would make you prefer one over the other? I think it could be used by students and teachers alike. I could especially see it used by students doing research and I like the collaboration/sharing features. I could see myself using it to share informational text to supplement the fiction we are reading in English class. I can highlight the info I want them to pay attention to or read my annotations or put questions in the annotations. I can also see using it to share texts with my staff members.
  •
I really like this website! I use my SmartBoard often in class to highlight text to demonstrate main idea or important details. I would like to see what this looks like for students. It would be a great teaching tool for students to find main idea or practice researching for a paper. It would be very beneficial for teachers to see how students are highlighting main ideas in texts while also taking notes. Have you used this before? And how successful was it for students?
  •
Sarah - I am new to using both Diigo and Scrible, so I did not realize all of the similarities between the two. I really like how you can highlight things with Scrible. Are you able to do the same with Diigo? Those were some of the same reasons I thought this would be a useful tool as well.

Award-winning LMS for teachers and school administrators | Schoology - 1 views

  •
Schoology offers a great place to let teachers communicate with students and staff through a "Facebook-style" LMS server. Schoology allows you to communicate with students, post tests, and grades to share with students and parents.

Our school just adopted this LMS as we go 1-to-1 next year. I was on the team that selected which LMS to use and this one was selected for its interface and ease of connection with google drive. Therefore, it is extremely effective in keeping students organized with their classes. I like how it promotes consistency between teachers. This tool promotes a new type of blended learning environment that increases collaboration between teachers and between students. As i mentioned there are other LMS to consider. But this one was the right choice. (This was also the cheapest option for the district which was just a coincidence, I'm sure ;-)
  •
A learning platform for schools to use for administration of curriculum, content, assignments, and a platform for collaboration and communication.

I realize this is one of the initial ones for an example, but my district uses it already and I have a lot of examples to share for my blog post!

Great way to get students started in organizing thoughts into words and posts. Excellent way to join and communicate with other teachers to share and collaborate with.
  •
Edmodo is a great resource. I have used it with my classes for 2 years. There is so much you can do with this site! I still haven't mastered everything that is available. It is also a great way to build your PLN by joining other groups. I love that it includes the ability to award badges. Kids are highly engaged with Edmodo and really enjoy posting to each other. I think this resource is equally shared between teachers and students, but even if you don't use it with your class, it is still a great way to connect with other educators around the world. Other than Facebook, which is less desirable because of the lack of teacher control, I am not aware of any similar resources for classroom teachers.

I like the teacher control I can have and the collaborative environment. The security and control that makes it good is also it's limitation in exposure to the outside world.

Build engaged audiences through publishing by curation. | Scoop.it - 0 views

Very easy to interact with. A way to share great information with your PLN

Type in a topic and Scoop.it! will find resources that are related to the topic you entered. You can then share that information via Twitter, facebook, etc.

This is an awesome student source for beginning researchers. I spend a lot of time with my 9th graders vetting websites and this is a tool that can lead them to ideas faster. I see this being a great option for students in my class who need information but don't know where to start. Are there any other sources like this?

Cramberry: Create & study flash cards online - 1 views

  •
Create online flashcards for a class. You can share these with friends or colleagues.
  •
I agree that these can be used in the classroom successfully. I have used something similar and have found success. Now, I am not sure what you teach but I think this would be best in a language classroom. That being said, it works in all settings. I like that this is primarily a student centered resource. Since students have to create their own flash card set they internalize the information. Finally, have you tried quizlet.com? It is a very similar resource that allows students to play different games with their sets. It too has an ipad app like cramberry which I like.
  •
I agree with Kenton - it is a great resource for students to use to learn information. What I like about this one is that you can search ready-made sets. But I like quizlet.com a lot better. It has interactive games to learn the words and can even write quizzes for the students to test their knowledge. I have used that for independent study of vocabulary words for novels. I couldn't write 30 different quizzes to assess their familiarity with the new words they chose for themselves, but on quizlet they can take a quiz and show me their score. It has apps from Apple and Android so students can use it from different devices. Also, it has a print option for students who don't have access to a smart phone or internet outside of school. I like that it gives them an active way to study and instant feedback on what they know and what they need to study still. Finally, it has class options so I could enter a set and share it easily with the students.

EdmodoTeacherHub - home - 1 views

Edmodo is a free social learning network for teachers, students and schools. With a design similar to Facebook, Edmodo offers teachers and students a safe and easy way to connect and collaborate. Edmodo can be used to share content, access and submit homework, take quizzes, and collaborate with other students. Also offers a parent component that allows parents access to their student's account.
  •
I like the wiki source in the aspect that it explains everything about Edmodo, which would be great to send parents/staff/administrator to if they were curious about what Edmodo is and how you are going to use it in your classroom. I think this provides a "safer and more private" learning environment for students that could be beneficial. I think this is pretty similar to what we are using for our online class with blackboard, but Edmodo provides a more user-friendly area for younger students. Thanks for sharing!
