As educators we need to be aware of assistive technologies so we can plan for inclusive classrooms for students with disabilities. Assistive technology provides educational resources for students with disabilities and allows them to be able to participate in the general education classroom despite their disabilitiy. It is critical that educators are aware of what can be provided so they know how to integrate assitive technology into the classroom. It is important for students to feel like a part of the class and now with assitive technology, students with disabilities are able to be part of the general education class as opposed to feeling isolated.

This article describes how TurningPoint can be used to benefit teachers and their students, especially those with disabilities. TurningPoint is an anonymous response system that teachers can use to check for understanding and allows students to feel confident in participating.

Assistive Technology can make the difference between experiencing schools either successfully or a failed one. Assistive technology provides outstanding supports for students with disabilities to exceed through their school years. Assistive technology, or AT, allows students with disabilities to be a part of the general education classroom with the rest of their developing peers.

Encouraging students to use cellphones turns the phones into tool instead of distractions. By allowing students opportunities to use their phone in class, the teacher is preparing them for the real-world. Most students have cell-phones so it's beneficial for schools that don't have the newest technology to allow students access to their phones.

As a special educator it is our job to provide equitable accommodations for all students with disabilities. Assistive technology, ranging from low to high tech provide efficient educational experiences for students to reach their full academic potential  despite any disability. Assistive technology tools provide many opportunities for children with disabilities to learn and for the teacher to be able to provide learning opportunities for his/her students.

At Princeton University there was a pilot for using e-readers where students were able to give input and feedback about using e-readers. Students appreciated the reading part of the kindle and saving paper, but would like to see better functions for note-taking, highlighting, and easier note-taking while using the kindle.

This is an excellent resource for students who need assistive technology. It is a list of apps, divided into categories such as speech and language, organization, and reading, that is specifically created for students with learning, language, or intellectual disabilities. If I have access to iPads in classrooms which I work, I could install apps that are specific to each child's needs.

This article is a view of a private school that does not use technology until 8th grade. Usually, business/technology leaders send their kids here to give them a rounded education, and think students can pick up technology easier later in life. There is a slow response of publishers to digitize textbooks to ebooks in order to consider the benefits and disadvantages of switching from print to digital. One big problem is how to distribute the technology equally in order to benefit students in schools.

This is a great resource about tips and ideas on assistive technology for students with a learning disability. It is easy to follow and there are a ton of examples!

Integrating technology into a math lesson and learning to explore and develop theories on their own. Class uses the internet and real life activities to learn math. Well done example of engaging students with a real world context and using 21st century tools for research and collaboration.

This article talks about what Amazon is doing to get schools to use the Kindle in the classroom. They have a new software called Whispercast that allows schools to manage many Kindles at one time as well as some other interesting features.

Amazon is trying to push schools in the U.S. to use the popular e-reader, Kindle. Amazon believes that the use of kindles in the classroom will make students more enthusiastic about reading.
