Creative Book Builder - All about apps in YOUR classroom! - 4 views

  •
"Creative Book Builder is a fantastic app that allows students to create books in epub format, which can then be exported to iBooks and shared with others. There are a variety of instructional uses for this app, from using it as a publishing tool for project-based learning to a summative assessment at the end of a unit.  Students can embed images, audio files, video files, and write text.  The advantage of an epub document over a PDF document is that all of the media will be preserved and available for readers to interact with when the final product is published.   Depending on how you use Creative Book Builder with students, this app can help students complete tasks that align with every level of the revised Bloom's Taxonomy.  Explore the different ways this app can be used at each level of Bloom's Taxonomy."

  •
"The Cuban Missile Crisis is one of the landmark events discussed in nearly every course covering the Cold War. To The Brink is an excellent free iPad app through which students can learn about the causes of the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Kennedy administration's handling of the crisis. The app uses archival images, videos, documents, and audio recordings to tell the story of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The app is arranged as a series of pages for students to flip through. On each page there are icons that students can tap to get more information in the forms of documents, images, and videos."

The iPad as a Tool for Creation to Strengthen Learning | MindShift - 10 views

  •
In this four-part series, we are using the Someday/Monday concept to explore four dimensions of using tablets, such as iPads, in educational settings. We will do this by examining how teachers can take students on a journey from the consumption of media to curation, creation, and connection. In the first part of this series, we used the Someday/Monday template to explore Consumption. During the second, we examined Curation and the evolving role of the teacher as a curator of learning objects. This week, we will address Creation, examining what is possible when we empower students and teachers as innovators with iPads and other mobile devices.

IPads in the classroom: The right way to use them, demonstrated by a Swiss school. - 10 views

  •
"the tablets were intended to be used as video cameras, audio recorders, and multimedia notebooks of individual students' creations. The teachers cared most about how the devices could capture moments that told stories about their students' experiences in school. Instead of focusing on what was coming out of the iPad, they were focused on what was going into it."

For iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store eClicker is a personal response system that allows teachers to poll their class during a lesson. It provides teachers with the real-time feedback they need to be sure their messages are being received. Developed for smartphones and laptops, eClicker leverages the hardware already in the hands of many students providing a low cost polling solution for the classroom. All you need to get started is the eClicker Host app running on an iOS device, a Wi-Fi network, and students with internet-enabled devices to participate.

  • The iPads cost $750 apiece, and they are to be used in class and at home during the school year to replace textbooks, allow students to correspond with teachers and turn in papers and homework assignments, and preserve a record of student work in digital portfolios.

There taking the full concept of iPads to the level they should be used. A device that helps them manage thier digital lifes! Cool!
  • Educators also laud the iPad’s physical attributes, including its large touch screen (about 9.7 inches) and flat design, which allows students to maintain eye contact with their teachers. And students like its light weight, which offers a relief from the heavy books that weigh down their backpacks.

Physical Attributes are a big deal. I have not thought much in this regard to "looking at a computer screen" and "looking at an iPad" and how that would change the way we use computers in the classroom.

Free Technology for Teachers: Tracks - Make Stories On Your iPhone - 10 views

  •
Applications for Education When I first saw this app a few days ago I immediately thought that it could be useful for students to create stories about their neighborhoods and towns while walking. For example students could visit a series of important landmarks in their towns, take pictures, then work together to create a story by commenting on each image with information about the landmarks.

An iPad Workflow for the Classroom Using Google Drive & Pages, Keynote or Numbers | Jon... - 3 views

  •
"The Google Drive iPad app is not yet all that we might want it to be, but it is definitely moving in the right direction. A recent update included the ability to create and edit spreadsheets, but it also added something equally useful - the ability to upload files from other apps to Google Drive via the "Open in" function. This creates some useful workflow options for teachers who want to assign, receive and grade student work on the iPad."
