YouTube could be among high traffic sites given carte blanche to self-monitor under the federal government's internet censorship efforts if the recommendations of a leaked whitepaper are implemented.

We talked a lot about enforcement last week in class. This youtube clip is a massive hit in the Netherlands since last week, two drunken police officers from the little town 'Spa' in Belgium had to lead a carnivals parade 'Laetare de Sart-Tiège' in the right direction. One of them throws up and falls on the floor while the other police officer is too drunk to walk in a straight line. How does this effect enforcements reputation in Belgium?

Article from PC World dated 19/3/2010 Talks about the the enduring legal battle between Viacom and Google over intellectual property rights which have been (arguably) 'violated' by the Video sharing website, Youtube. This is another prime example of the indefinable nature of the digital medium and the problems inherent in resolving issues of ownership and distribution of information in the context of the internet. The inability to fully implement control in free flowing information forums again raises the question who can really be made responsible for copyright infringements?

Nestle's heavy-handed reaction to the Greenpeace advert doing the rounds online - where an office worker bites into the fingers of an orangutan to highlight the destruction of their habitat by palm oil producers who supply to Nestle - is causing some backlash for them on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, including their own 'fan' pages.

A small video on how text in this visual and digital age, far from disappearing, is becoming a verb... going away from its former linearity, becoming hypertext!  Saw it a few years back, however is still worth sharing!

Can gamers make a better world? Game developer Jane McGonigal seems to think that all gamers possess the skills needed to save the world. The millions of Palestinians who struggle against daily obstacles peacefully, choosing blogging, boycotts, and creating YouTube videos to nonviolently protest, should not be discounted.

Statistics now show that 15% of teachers have experienced cyber bullying themselves, and half know another teacher who has. Cyber bullying of teachers has included Facebook hate groups, Videos of the teachers in the classroom being posted to Youtube, or hate sites. Shows that this isn't just an issue between peers.

Brown, a guy who witnessed the filming of Transformer 3 and straight away shoved out his iphone to record 3 minutes length video. He later then uploaded the Clip on youtube which has now caused some commotion with the studio.

Following a Facebook user's invitation for people to submit drawings of Prophet Mohammed and the ensuing condemnation from individual Muslim's and Muslim groups, The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has extended a ban on Facebook until May 31, and has also applied the ban to popular video sharing website YouTube and restricted Wikipedia. Depicting the prophet in a perceived blasphemous manner is considered sacrilegious. Over 100,000 people had become fans of the page on Facebook. Thousands of protesters have held multiple public rallies against Facebook, with anti-America and anti-European sentiment high.

Since May 20, some Muslim Nations ban Facebook and You Tube after the publication of groups and videos like "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!" a Facebook group that encourages users to post images of Islam's Prophet Muhammad.

A wide range of groups, from patriot organizations to militias and even white supremacists, are using social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and YouTube to organize and even espouse illegal activities. Racism has never been so easy.

Israeli soldier posts the details of an operation on Facebook, and the operation is called off. Ironic: the Internet, originally a military tool, causes trouble in the military. Like with potential victims for kidnapping in Mexico posting personal details online: should basic media literacy education be provided for the use of social media among groups with potential risks?

Amendments made to the digital economy bill last week, handing courts the power to force internet service providers (ISPs) to block certain websites, threaten freedom of speech and will lead to British websites being blocked without due judicial process, the chief executives of leading technology companies said in an open letter to the Financial Times. The heads of the four largest UK internet service providers as well as Google, Facebook, eBay and Yahoo have all co-signed the letter, along with consumer groups and academics, objecting to amendment. Theoretically the amendment could lead to sites such as YouTube being blocked in the UK.
