mustech / FrontPage - 1 views

Welcome to the Mustech Wiki! This wiki was begun because of a conversation on the Teachers.net music teachers discussion board. Some of us decided we'd like a place to share our Smartboard lessons, and perhaps some other resources we use in our classrooms. The idea behind this wiki is simply to collaborate and share the things that make our classrooms better. It is not about us, it is about the kids and how to teach them music as effectively as possible!

Letting how we choose to learn inform our teaching - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
Think of a time when you were completely immersed in a learning challenge. A time when you became aware of the need to master a new skill or concept. A situation that took you outside of your comfort zone, when there were times that you became frustrated, when you thought of quitting, downed tools and walked away, but came back time and time again. Maybe it was a problem you had to solve. Maybe it was a challenge you wanted to overcome.

Debating false dichotomies: a new front in the education wars - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
Sometimes, it seems everyone who ever went to school is an expert on education and has a plan to make it better. Actual teaching experience, years of professional learning and formal training are all easily swept aside. The result is an ongoing dialog around what schools should do, what teachers need to do more of or less of and how the academic success of the nation is linked to strategy x or y.

Why engagement matters for learning - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
This is not a story about the evolution of the world-wide-web. It is not about an evolutionary process of learning or a desire to engage in life-long learning. It is instead about the importance of purpose and engagement as factors in our learning.

Why we need to move our technology use beyond substitution - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
Mere substitution is not going to help our learners maximise the affordances of technology. The challenge is to find ways by which technology can enhance learning. We can be certain that technology is not going to go away and that those who maximise the affordances that it brings are likely to gain the most from it.

what if our expertise is imagined or false. What if what we think is so, just ain't so. This might be more common than we care to admit, and it is worth considering the source of this difficulty and its implications.

How to fix When Your Car Engine Overheats! - 0 views

  •
onstantly while an engine is running. This is the time you should call for help if needed. If your engine has cooled and there's no more steam, then you can inspect the radiator for a leak. Look under your vehicle to see if there is a puddle that formed. Grab some type of cloth as you open cap of the radiator, look away from it just in case there's still a lot of pressure built up. The antifreeze will come out with force and potentially hit your face. If needed add antifreeze (designated for your vehicle) and water. Adding only water to the radiator or coolant tank can do a lot of damage to an overheated engine. If you only have water but no antifreeze don't attempt to add anything. If you have roadside assistance it is always nice to have the option to call for a tow truck. Unless you've got the expertise to check, a tow truck is probably your best option. What if? Reflections from the ACSA Conference - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
Last week I spent three days thinking about curriculum and all that it means to teaching and learning thanks to the Australian Curriculum Studies Association's biannual conference. It was three days of deeply thoughtful conversation and learning with just the right mix of academic research and ideas for grounded practice straight out of innovative classrooms and schools. With keynotes by Alan Reid, Dan Haesler, Bob Lingard, Robert Randall and Jan Owen combined with Masterclasses from some of Australia's leading educators there was much on offer. The biggest challenge was deciding which workshop you would attend when every session offered such outstanding opportunities.

Curiosity as the edge of knowledge phenomenon that drives learning - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
We are driven by curiosity. It is an innately human quality that has driven us to explore, ask questions, investigate, wonder why and search for a deeper understanding. In a very fundamental way curiosity is the driver of all self-directed learning. It is our desire to find out more, unlock new knowledge and answer our questions (big ones and little ones) that compels us to learn. Sir Ken Robinson famously and provocatively asked "Do Schools Kill Creativity?". The same question might be asked about curiosity.

Why we fear data and how our perception can change. - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
Data occupies a somewhat curious place within education. Mention it to teachers and you tend to get one of two responses. One group will roll their eyes and with great sarcasm how data is "so exciting". The other group responds with something akin to "actually I quite like data" indicating that experience has shown them that they are members of a small group. The question is why do some people find data to be a useful and fascinating tool while others see it as a good method for inducing sleep?

We've always done it that way - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
Experience shapes our understanding of the world and our responses to it. Our past influences our decision making and constrains our imaginations of what is and is not possible. Understanding this is a crucial step towards change; a first step towards discovering a better way to do things. Until we understand how our experience is limiting our imaginations we will continue to be restrained by the way things have always been done.
