ISTE | Got a creative lesson aligned to the Common Core? We've got the contest for you! - 0 views

  •
Project ReimaginED is based of of Sarah Winchester's idea for her eighth grade students workshop which allowed students to comment and grade each others works anonymously. This was a great idea and could be a tremendous help to anyone need a technological helper in their creative writing class or if the class is new and not comfortable with each other yet. Project ReImaginED is a contest for teachers to show off their ways of infusing technology into their classrooms in order to win. Winchester's idea allowed the students to express their ideas without having to share their identity so some may be more inclined to say more than the usual, "It was nice. I liked it." When they have to workshop their peers. Project ReimaginED "allows teachers to see what their peers have already or plan to implement in their classrooms and encourages teachers to try technologies in ways they have never imagined." It does not say what the prize is for winning.

This is a good example of how a teacher used technology and tech tools to not only teach her students but coincide with the common core curriculum. Her tip is to use an assignment that her students can use to complete as a grade as well as understanding and focusing on analytical thinking, decoding a document, and being able to explain a math problem.

It's all about the connections - 3 views

  •
This article is helpful to us considering we are all aspiring teachers. I'm sure we will all have the opportunity to attend this convention so this can contribute to our experience during that time. Also, who knows how advanced technology will be by that time so there is more of a chance we could have a 10x better experience!

This is pretty cool because it is especially helpful for teachers. It is about how teachers do no connect during the ISTEs because most of the teachers connect through social media now. Which is relevant becuase we are learning in this class how to use social media as a resource.

ISTE | Apply these two sets of standards for successful tech integration - 0 views

  •
Digital age learning is driven by two facets: the pedagogical side and the wires-and-lights-in-a-box side. But truth be told, you can't have one without the other. Schools must create a unified vision for their tech integration. They must use tools with a proven track record. Implementation should be widespread; across departments.

Is education the next civil rights fight? - 1 views

  •
This article explains the inequality in education and how it needs to be taken more seriously by the public. It explains the controversy involving politics and economics of students in the school system. It's referred to as a civil rights issue because of the flagrant educational gaps emerging within America specifically poor urban neighborhoods. The author also states that technology could be a solution to the problem in that it allows for greater and easier access to information.
  •
In this article it is proposed that students being educated in impoverished areas should not be deprived of a better education compared to students in privileged communities. It explains that technology is the main driver to an opportunity for more learning equality in schools.

Help kinesthetic learners learn computer science concepts through a robot. Groups of four help children write code for the robot to complete a task. Teaches them script and code in an activity oriented way. Can teach students script and code and think critically as teacher instruction facilitates learning but does not baby the children.Problem based learning methodology with helps students write tasks for the robot. Can get students excited about technology. Caters to kinesthetic learners which is rare.

Common Core: It's not what they know - it's how they'll use it - 2 views

  •
this is great; i hope it will help you. To truly meet the Common Core, we have to teach students to dig deeper, think bigger and apply what they learn to real-world problems.

Big History Project: Common Core-aligned and pretty cool - 1 views

I thought this article was kind of neat. I am planning on becoming a high school history teacher and this would be cool to use as an extra activity. It is aligned with Common Core standards and it gives students a fun way to learn about a subject many find boring.

8 Classrooms Uses for Holographic Technology - 0 views

  •
This article explains what holographic technology is and how it can be possibly be used in classrooms in the future. Microsoft has created products that allowed used to interact with 3D images, and while not available as of yet, have impressive applications for a classroom setting. For example, this futuristic technology would allow students to virtually conduct science experiments that would otherwise be too difficult or expensive to conduct in real life. The learning process as a whole could be greatly improved with the use of holographic technology.

ISTE | Teach students to learn from their failures - 0 views

  •
I found this article most interesting because I had never looked at failure in this way before. I never would have thought to make a google classroom with students who had taken the class before in order to receive help beyond the teacher. To be able to look at failure and to grow from it is a skill that I believe that everyone should have.

Turn Your Classroom into an Active Learning Environment - 0 views

  •
Replace rows of desks and lectures at your school with active learning spaces where students are collaborative, classrooms are comfortable and teachers inspire creativity and deep content knowledge. Also, take the lesson outside. Technology is portable so take advantage of it. Incorporate technology into the lesson and then bring it outside for a different environment of learning that students will be really excited about!

Minecraft: A Primer for Teachers - 3 views

  •
Go into any elementary school classroom today and ask the students to raise their hand if they play minecraft. I am not a betting man but I would put a lot of money on at least 50% of the students raising their hand. It is probably the most popular game today for youths. This article encourages teachers to embrace it. It is technology through a game in which children are learning, and enjoying it! Not the easiest thing to accomplish in a classroom. The article brings pop culture into play while allowing positive learning.

I really enjoyed reading about the article you posted. I have heard about mine craft but never really knew what it was. I think incorporating it into the classroom however, is a great idea. If the students are familiar with it, then they will enjoy playing the game while learning. This article shows how amazing technology can be in a classroom and how it is growing with each generation. Great job!
  •
i also enjoyed reading the article you posted. I obviously have heard about mine craft but I never played it before. I think it would be a fun idea to include it in the classroom.

I thought this was a great article. There have been a lot of research on this game that suggests it's a really great learning game. It helps kids to use their imagination as well and critical thinking and math skills. Incorporating this into the school would be a great idea as this is something kids are very enthusiastic about and are comfortable with.

I enjoyed this article, i feel it would be a good idea to at least give it a try. Minecraft is a game that I have heard of an my best friends elementary school aged children play. I think it would be a good idea , the game helps kids use skills they need like critical thinking and problem solving. They also build things, use their math skills, and are using their imagination all while incorporating technology.

Is it OK for teachers to not know the answer? - 3 views

  •
When the teacher isn't the all-knowing expert, students feel more empowered to take ownership of their learning. Rather than filling students with information, show them how to find answers. Pose challenging questions and allow students to gather information, analyze, and conclude themselves. Having flaws shows that it's ok to make mistakes and learn from them. Teachers and learners are on a"learning journey" together.
  •
"Teachers and learners are on a"learning journey" together." Perfectly stated.
  •
This is an insightful article. Teachers do not want to spend 80% of their day teaching common core lessons. Since their administrators force them to do so, they spend less time reading about new and exciting facts they could be sharing about broader subjects. To sum it up I believe teachers are being pulled from learning more to teach robotic lessons.

8 Classroom uses for Holographic Technology - 0 views

  •
"Holographic technology is moving quickly toward classroom application, with implications for video conferencing, science simulations, design and more." Holographic technology is an interesting prospect that can be integrated into the classroom to teach in a more hands on way - perfect for learners who need to have a visualization to genuinely understand.
