ICTs and Pedagogy

I have witnessed many children (in the primary context) completing their school work with the use of computers. ICT plays a very important role in the classroom.

In my experience there is always a number of learners who are not engaged with the task for a range of different reasons. These include: the work not being challenging, the work being too challenging, poor teaching and the task being uninteresting.

Classroom design.

I have done all my pracs with children under the age of 6 so the most common form of learning I have experienced is imaginative play.

In the 3 pracs that I have undertaken so far, this is the image the best describes the learning, at least from the teaching perspective that I have found. Most classes have involved the teacher standing up the front, initiating the learning, the discussion or the activity. they often use a whiteboard or more commonly a power-point presentation. This just looks like a classroom that I have been a part of.

Children work collabortively with their peers. This is a pedagogical appraoch that I believe is essential in all aspects of the educational environment.

In my last professional experience, laptops (and direct internet access) were used as subsitutes for textbooks. This was a highly effective as students remain engaged throughout the entire lesson and it was a great experience to be able to integrate technology into every lesson.

What we always aim to achieve in the classroom doesn't always happen

ICT's can and should be used across all Learning Areas. There are many interesting and informative tools and applications to be accessed using technology and therefore using these broadens the students mind and moves away from the limitations that common applications such as Microsoft Office provide.

Internet in the classroom is the way of the future. 21st century learners are capable of communicating with ICTs

This image captures the excitement and energy young children exhibit every day. As I teacher, I hope to draw on these qualities to make their learning experiences interactive, engaging and meaningful.
