Nil Peachey is famous for his devotion to learning technologies. His blog is a really great source of information and inspiration.

Socrative lets teachers engage and assess their students with educational activities on tablets, laptops and smartphones. Through the use of real time questioning, instant result aggregation and visualization, teachers can gauge the whole class' current level of understanding. Socrative saves teachers time so the class can further collaborate, discuss, extend and grow as a community of learners.

Socrative is a fun way to engage students with either polls or quizzes. I use it for vocabulary instruction primarily but if they have a device it makes it easier for them to all participate.

Common Sense Media improves the lives of kids and families by providing independent reviews, age ratings, & other information about all types of media.

Our class teachers use these resources with the tech coach (me!) very successfully as part of our digital citizenship curriculum. We also shared some of the ideas with parents at a recent training session.

LittleBits is a great set of small electronic components that kids can use to create circuits with moderate complexity. The simple plug-and-play concept is very intuitive and give pupils a first experience in the world of electronics. They can built great intelligent and connected objects in a very short amount of time !

Teachers considering the benefits of flipping the classroom and have an iPad available may want to try the following very reliable iPad Apps to assist with this endeavor. While it may seem a daunting task to put all of those into action with one's students, they are easy and actually fun to use and do not require a lot of technical skills and experience.

The blurb says: "Toondoo lets you create comic strips and cartoons easily with just a few clicks, drags and drops". I started using it in newsletters for parents as a way of grabbing their attention for key piece of information. It struck me how useful this would be as a way for children to summarise concepts, learning etc in one frame. Quite sure this is a site everyone is very familiar with already, but just in case...

It is always good to know that you can find out information about your country that you did not know exist. The information gathered here I would use to see if the Government is on track with what they say they would do with regards to ICT in the country.

About gamification in classrooms, an interesting website

Thanks joselociruelo. I tried a similar approach two years ago with high school adolescents when by chance I discovered Sheldon's book: 'The Multiplayer Classroom: Designing Coursework as a Game' (2011) http://goo.gl/7NBlhj . Results then were not as expected, maybe because of my students profile, maybe because of my personal adaptation. Having discovered Classcraft, I'll see if the graphic environment and mechanics fills the gap I couldn't make attractive enough to cover with my own improvised adaptations through PowerPoint slides.

The Framework presents a holistic view of 21st century teaching and learning that combines a discrete focus on 21st century student outcomes (a blending of specific skills, content knowledge, expertise and literacies) with innovative support systems to help students master the multi-dimensional abilities required of them in the 21st century and beyond.

A project in South Africa to train teachers in a rural area to "teach with ICTs". Tablets were used. 21st Century skills training was modeled during the 10 training sessions which was spread out over 30 weeks. A tremedoes amount of learning took place. I participated in the sustainability modelling which included Total Cost of Ownership calculations. This showed that tablet replacement could be up to 50% of the yearly operations costs.

Learning through production - An incredible app for creating ebooks. A great way for students to demonstrate learning and share with an audience.
