I have chosen this article because I think the situation it reports is a bit ironic. Russia's Foreign Ministry is criticizing the human rights situation in Europe without presenting any facts, while in the human development ranking; they occupy the 55th position in the world, behind every EU country except for Romania (56th) and Bulgaria (57th). The Human Development Index (HDI) is a composite statistic of life expectancy, education, and income indices used to rank countries into four tiers of human development. I disagree with the opinion expressed by the article because since the establishment of UE there has been made a huge step towards the increase of equality in the member countries. For example, the highest scores in gender equality are achieved by European countries like Finland or Iceland.

Oceans are one of the Commons, and as any other commons, it becomes overconsumed. Fishers all around the world keep devastating populations of the fish. To prevent overfishing, pollution and other human impacts, leading international marine scientists are proposing radical changes in the governance of the world's oceans. They carried an experiment in Chilie, and based on it, scientists state that they would be able to help to reverse "the tragedy of the commons". Problems in Chilie made people be open to new arrangements, scientists and fishers began working together to improve the situation with fish. By working together for some years, scientists became able to reveal about fish stocks and and the surrounding marine ecosystem. The new laws gave exclusive ocean territories to local 'artisanal' fishers, and excluded the big industrial fishing fleets, which had their own exclusive fishing zone. Scientists and small fishers then worked together to understand and rebuild the shattered fish stocks in their zone, leading to a shared vision and voluntary agreements on how to manage them.

I find this article particularl interesting because due to a political change in Chile, it has now effected the common resource tradegy of the Oceans. It has reduced the over fishing in Chile, which has let the fish start to regenerate. The research has found out that the key to managing the fisheries depends on making decisions flexible enough to cope with the changes that the ocean goes through.

Taking into account such factors as health, education, and poverty, the report stated that the Human Development Index value of Raider Nation is 0.302, far below the global average and indeed at the very bottom of the 187 territories surveyed by the international organization.

The countries that had a higher HDI won more medals than countries with low Human Development Index. Nevertheless, Ethiopia hasn't followed the trend. In developing countries sports are often not as popular as in developed countries. In the US students are encouraged to develop both educational and extra-curricular skills. The firm may be only concerned with its marginal private costs and have no intention in even dealing with the marginal social costs caused by the negative externality. The government must intervene and cease this crime; the injustice towards its community, society and the environment.

I didn't heard about this case before. I find it ironic because USA with their great judiciary don't have methods to fight with companies like Motiva. We can ask ourselves who is worst a murderer who kills one person and is sentenced to death or a company who is killing hundreds of humans beings. The oil is very important in our live, we need it every day but we must ask as where is the limit? what is more important a human being or using a car? We have to eliminate negative externalities like pollution because if we don't do anything then we will destroy the world because we have infinite wants (this is the sad reality).

The increase demand for iPhone 5 causes the Apple shares to close at almost $700. The firm receives two million pre-orders. Most iPhones will be delivered to stores later this week, but some orders may be delayed. An estimate of up to 50-60 million iPhones could be sold by the end of the year. However, the soaring demand causes concerns for the firm, as they may not be enough products to meet the consumers' demands. This could potentially delay the delivery of the products. I chose this article, because I think it relates a lot to the idea of scarcity. Though it may not be the biggest concern that could affect people's lives tremendously (not as much of a concern as problems like shortage of food or water), but it tells us that mass resources can become scarce very easily as a result of high demand for it. This can easily connect to the fundamental concept of economics. That is supply and demand. As a result of high demand for the products, the quantity that can be supplied by the market may not satisfy the consumers' demand. This is also an example of human 'wants.' Most people don't need an iPhone, but because of their 'wants,' they want to get one for themselves. You can see that human wants are infinite and that resources are finite that will eventually become scarce. This could potentially add value to the iPhone 5 if the products become scarce. The coral reefs in Sweden is an important common resource where it provides habitat for many marine life and maintains biodiversity. However increased human activities such as trawling and eutrophication has caused the number of coral reef sites from 3 to 1 and the last remaining site is in bad condition. Coral reefs, once damaged causes many of the species of marine life to disappear and extremely difficult and time staking effort is required to restore. This is an example of "tragedy of commons" and adequate measures must be made to prevent further tragedy from happening.

This article talks about the decline in coral reefs due to a virus affecting their growth. This is a huge problem for the oceans because coral reefs support around and estimated 75% of all sea life and with out them, well we wouldnt have any fish to catch. So the survival of corals in our seas is absolutely essential.
