a site with LOTS of links to a variety of Geography games to help AP Human Geo kids learn maps!!! in one spot it has links grouped by region of the world - which is often how we test kids, and then towards the bottom it has the various map quiz sites.

TimeRime is a web application, which allows people to view, create, share and compare interactive timelines. In its first year TimeRime has become a popular website for schools and students. Students make timelines of subjects from class, or of their own research. They can do this individually or in groups. TimeRime introduces the education account for schools, universities and other organizations that have the need for an advertisement free, closed online environment to make, view and grade timelines.

Joining this group might be a good way to develop your professional network. There are some good source sites and resources there too.

You might find this site useful with your classes. The example here is the word cloud generated by Wordle from our History Teachers Group site. Quite fun. You can print them out, so might be useful for classroom decorations...?

Interviews with 17 great history teachers. What an excellent idea! The most I have ever learnt about teaching was from watching exceptional teachers, so this should be useful.

In these interviews distinguished teachers share their strategies and techniques. Good teaching is more often honored in rhetoric than reality. And great teachers are generally known locally within their own schools, but less often to a larger group of national colleagues. Our goal in this section is, in part, to identify and honor those people who have taught with excellence, dedication, and distinction.

This group was too good to pass up bookmarking. It's a collection of over 2000 good-quality images of places and artefacts from the classical world. An ancient history teacher's dream. Why are people still buying textbooks?

This is an enormous repository of images on flickr all devoted to history. The images are uploads are all done by random people (problem) so the tagging might be even worse than when I bookmark sites to our group. There'll be some gems in with all the trash though - useful for PowerPoints, sources on exams, student assignments, etc?

This is a group on Ning for like-minded educators. For those of you unfamiliar with Ning, I'd recommend a look. It has some great tools for developing networks with other educators.

Saw the link  to these come through on an email and so added it to the group. Does anyone teach the Afghan War or contemporary events to their classes? 

Digital Past is a digitization initiative undertaken by libraries, historical societies, museums, and other cultural venues throughout Illinois in partnership with the North Suburban Library System (NSLS) in Wheeling, Illinois. It began in 1998 with a grant from the Illinois State Library and has become a popular resource for researchers of all ages and interests including schoolchildren, genealogists, historians, authors, producers, and special interest groups. Digital Past contains collections from over 40 institutions of varying topics and formats including over 136,000+ records.

The Post-Reformation Digital Library is a collection of resources put together by a group of researchers and relating to the development of theology during the Post-Reformation/early modern era (ca. 16th-18th c.), hosted by the Hekman Library in Grand Rapids, Michigan (USA) at the H. Henry Meeter Center for Calvin Studies of Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary.

Most of it seems to be in Latin. Probably should have realised that before I starting adding it as a bookmark. Oh well. Too late now.

'The Poor Law Amendment Act was introduced in 1834, centralising the poor relief administrative system. Previously, poor relief had been largely the responsibility of the parish. Expenditure had risen during the Napoleonic Wars and local rate payers and authorities decided that looking after paupers was too costly. When the Poor Law Amendment Act was passed, parishes were grouped into 'unions', managed by boards of guardians who were elected by their constituent parish ratepayers. The new poor law unions were to report to the Poor Law Commissioners, based in Somerset House in London.'

A big part about ADE is creating something within your group. They call it challenge based learning.....I'd call it getting creative!We....teachers....do not get creative very often....do not take the time to get creative. I mean really creative.That's what we were able to do at the ADE conference.

Create a public space for group collaboration on the fly. Might be a great tool to have on-line discussion with students, or a place for students to collaborate on an assignment.

The final videos can all be found here.  I hesitate to embed any in the post because I know I would be prone to pick the "best" one.  Please click on the link and randomly select one to watch! There are two pages of videos-and hey-leave a comment or a thumbs up!  I have to say, that after watching the kids make these, the final products just don't reflect the amount of work that is needed.  What I mean is that you shouldn't watch them and say "My kids could do that in a couple of days."  It took 360 minutes of class time to produce those 1-2 minute videos!! One thing I wished we had done is to write transitions so that the different videos linked together better.  I inadvertently led them to make videos on topics that come across as standing alone in time instead of being influenced and apart of other events and movements. A huge resource for historical radio programs. We have a group assignment where students create their own radio show and this would provide some good resources for demonstrating historical format, content and language.

A cornucopia of history sites that I got from the excellent NCSS History group. If I was a really diligent group member I would save them each individually. But I'm not.

1999 High School History Quiz The American Council of Trustees and Alumni, a Washington-based nonprofit group that promotes liberal-arts study, posed 34 high-school level questions randomly to 556 seniors at 55 leading colleges and universities, including Harvard, Princeton and Brown. Only one student answered all the questions correctly, and the average score was 53 percent.
