The index page for findingDulcinea's "On This Day" series. Each day it features an historical event from this day in history. It explains what happened, what led up to it, and what has happened since, and also places the event in today's context. Articles include a selection of Web links to outstanding research on the event.

The final videos can all be found here.  I hesitate to embed any in the post because I know I would be prone to pick the "best" one.  Please click on the link and randomly select one to watch! There are two pages of videos-and hey-leave a comment or a thumbs up!  I have to say, that after watching the kids make these, the final products just don't reflect the amount of work that is needed.  What I mean is that you shouldn't watch them and say "My kids could do that in a couple of days."  It took 360 minutes of class time to produce those 1-2 minute videos!! One thing I wished we had done is to write transitions so that the different videos linked together better.  I inadvertently led them to make videos on topics that come across as standing alone in time instead of being influenced and apart of other events and movements. Sometimes the most prosaic historical evidence can be the most informative. Teachers can have students skim through these diaries to get a sense of what a president's day looked like in the early 1970s. Many of the names may surface in a Watergate lesson, do any of the events listed correspond to other events teachers talk about?

Hi Mary, Thank you for this amazing share. Down here in Australia there has been a similar event regarding monuments in the news, just after the Charlottesville monument events unfolded. We can definately incorporate and contextualise this for Australia as a combined or global event. A great tool for students to use to understand the sequence of events in the Arab Spring and to understand historical significance.  It would be interesting to ask students to compare international responses to the various uprisings and ask them to make a judgement about the fairness of each response.
