From 1996 (pre-technology?) - a famed HGSE professor, Richard Elmore, on why education struggles with scale, and what to do about it.

This reflects on our discussion from earlier in the semester on the merits of teaching coding in schools.

On augmented reality: "Though it might be a buzz term in education circles, don't assume that AR is just another fad. After all, profound learning occurs when students create, share, interact and explain. Tried to post in reponse to Ryan's article. Any thoughts about the implementation or potential success of this project? Will this degree program impress employers or carry the same clout that Georgia Tech's in person master's programs in comp. sci. do?

Interesting interview with the Finnish educator Pasi Sahlberg on using technology to improve education and enhance learning: "I think the best way to move forward is to find a good solution to securing time for human interactions for all students in addition to giving students access to learn with new technologies."

"Experts" are still unclear on how much or how little children should be using digital media. However, it is clear that contents is important.

"Carnegie Mellon University is convening a high-powered consortium of educators, researchers, and technology-company executives that will spearhead efforts to develop standards and promote best practices in online education."

'Quest to Learn' is a New York City public middle and high school, supporting collaborative student-led learning: "Quest to Learn has used research in game-based learning to create a rigorous and engaging collaborative learning space where students feel safe taking risks and using their successes and failures to create and apply new knowledge." "Nurturing social and emotional learning (SEL) and 21st century skills like inventiveness, risk taking and collaboration."

Quality education for children in families earning less than $2/day is a huge challenge in developing countries. If tech can help...definitely transformative.
