Interesting look at mapping 21st Century Skills to Montessori .

I am a fan of the Motessori approach and am encouraged to see that they are mapping the new technology skills to the tenets of what has been working so well for them already.

As Mary Jo said in class today, the lack of collaboration between teachers and developers is a hugely frustrating. The Shared Learning Collaborative is an organization that tries to bring the groups together for "camps" that tap the skills of both around big problems in education. This weekend, there's a Codeathon/Tagathon in Cambridge aimed at increasing the volume of properly meta-tagged content in the Learning Registry. Could be interesting to check out.

This conference addresses a very real gap - I really hope that more opportunities like this one bring people together that share the common goal, but are coming at it from such different perspectives. Thanks, Hannah!

"Legacy costs, ideas and infrastructure have set the table for creative disruption, with technology now offering alternative ways to acquire skills, knowledge, and accolades." This not only talks about transformation among teachers lives (and consequently those of the children thru what the empowered teachers provide) but makes you feel that the way in which teachers are evaluated are taking a whole new stage. More open, more emphasis on its impact and connected. 

This is a natural progression for MOOC's. But I have to wonder, if the wave of the future is a MOOC higher education, then how will our young adults develop, socially? developmentally? psychologically? Will we create a society of socially incompetent adults who are not able to work intereactively, or in groups with co-workers, or lacking negotiation skills, or many of the 21st c. skills needed in many workplaces.

This video shows Marco combining simple AR with super storytelling skills. Makes one wonder what a skillful teacher could do with those two tools.

Microsoft recognized three U.S. schools at its Global Forum Educator awards last week. I didn't find two of them terribly intriguing, but the third, LYNCing Distance Learning Math Classes to Blind and Visually Impaired Students, was a great example of how technology can be used to link educators with special skills and students with special needs how may not otherwise have access to a qualified instructor.

Interesting article about how playing games affect your dreams. I wonder how this could apply to educational gaming? If we are taking games into our dreams how will that affect our understanding and connecting skills?

nice podcast this morning. 'teaching character skills more imp than raising test scores'. Not really about technology but relates to several classes i shopped (and i liked) yesterday. fyi. 

This is an interesting talk which shares techniques that journalists use to determine fact from fiction. Could be very useful for teaching critical thinking skills.

Really interesting and definitely related to developing critical thinking skills. However, the idea that someone can crosscheck sources using Google maps to identify locations makes me wonder about how journalism in a web 2.0 ecology impacts privacy.

So this is mostly an article by Clayten Christensen on types of innovation, but towards the end he mentions education and the kinds of skills we should be teaching future innovators and entrepreneurs to make sure our economy runs.

A Teach for America spin-off that encourages young programmers to use their skills to help governments work better.  Some of the featured apps/projects are education related.  I like the idea of supporting people who want to innovate but may not have the resources and/or inclination to go it alone.  

Notes from a conference on emerging technologies (not sure if Professor Dede was there or not). Count me as a skeptic re: OLPC's Ethiopia experiment, but the Institute of Play/EA partnership is an interesting one.

Thanks for sharing Mohit. I think the implementation of OLPC in numerous countries have been beneficial and a step in the right direction. Maybe if you do place a laptop in a child's hands, he/she could learn certain basic skills (like what the article suggested). But to go beyond that to higher-order thinking skills, a robust curriculum would be needed to complement the technology. Still, credit to these folks for reaching out to the children in need.

Yet another story about the magic device. I had not realized that interactive whiteboards automatically communicate 21st century skills.
