You'll freak when you see the new Facebook - CNN.com - 0 views

  •
Facebook is about to roll out profile changes - again - but apparently the new ones are a shocker that will at first disappoint and later enthrall us.
  •
Isn't that what they promise with every roll-out? And then we all fight back by creating groups, sending emails, and overall boycotting the new changes, and then they send a message and apologize? Sometimes I want to tell Facebook: "If it ain't broke, don't try and fix it!"

Google+ gets more sign-language friendly - CNN.com - 1 views

sign language in online chat rooms
  •
This is really interesting! I never considered how primarily speaking through sign-language might thwart opportunities in video-chatting; especially with such a great technology as Google+. Good find!
  •
Amanda, thanks for sharing. I have a soft spot for sign language as I taught a camper years ago with a hearing impairment which resulted in me pursuing some ASL classes in undergrad because I loved being a part of that world! Accessibility is a hot topic in education and to see it being addressed in a more mainstream market makes me very excited for the possibilities!

Augmented Earth...cool or really, really scary! Watch this video! - 1 views

  •
Orwell missed the mark with his vision of a society that is policed by a single panoptical entity (government). WE ARE BIG BROTHER! Regardless of use, taste or even civility, the masses are using their digital recorders to capture everything. These students have developed a very interesting aggrigator of live video cams that layers over Google Earth sat feeds....Check this out!

How to dissect a body on your iPhone - CNN.com - 2 views

  •
Personally, I cannot imagine dissecting a body on my iPhone. But, obviously 3,000 customers see this as a must-have. Def. a step towards mobile/distance learning.
  •
Neato! Personally I will leave the dissecting to the MDs. A lot of these iPhone apps (maybe all of them) would better impact education on a larger screen. I bet the oompa loompas inside Steve Job's secret Technology Factory are up to a tablet mac. Such a device would best serve doctors trying to educate their patients.

Apps of the week: Games for kids - CNN.com - 1 views

  • You won't be able to get this coloring book-like app out of the hands of your kids, who may plead, "Can I color just one more picture, please?" The drawings have thick outlines so it's impossible to color outside the lines. You pick colors with your fingers and select parts of the picture to paint. Pictures range from hot-air balloons to Earth.
  • The sounds of this memory game are worth it alone. If you're looking for an educational app, this "Concentration"-like game teaches kids to remember which tile last hid a particular animal. Each animal makes a unique noise, from a leaf-chomping giraffe to a squeaky mouse.
  •
I have experienced this first hand. Adults find it cute to watch their young children staring deeply into their cell phones (iphones) as they pop digital balloons, etc. Disruptive? Def. if you are sitting next to this family at a restaurant.

Virtual businesses: Going to the office in Second Life - CNN.com - 1 views

  • But if companies are to make the most of virtual collaboration, employees will have to learn that what works a bricks-and-mortar workplace may not be right for the virtual world.
  • Another issue is that virtual teams can't take advantage of the kind of impromptu "water cooler" conversations that occur in a real workplace, where colleagues can share information they may have forgotten to communicate in meetings.
  • Kahai says that lack of human contact can also lead to feelings of isolation, but adds that virtual worlds such as Second Life can help by recreating the water-cooler experience.
