iPhone app used to conduct psychology study. The ubiquitous nature of smartphones today can make conducting research studies easier.

It's been said that a wandering mind I think lead to innovation (because it allows the mind time to connect dots). Maybe a better title would have been "Distracted mind not a happy mind" ?

Here is an entertaining talk about how everyday objects can be used for science education. We are all aware / starting to better appreciate that "it definitely ain't about the technology", but what conceptual understanding the technology can effect. Personally, I see two advantages of such low cost technologies: 1. They increase access to interesting learning materials for all - quickly. 2. They can serve as the kernels of ideas for influencing emerging technologies. ( Like in out class discussion : models are still expensive but they can guide / inspie Do share your thoughts.

The last decade expanded what we could do online, but the Web's basic programming couldn't keep up. That threatened to fracture the world's greatest innovation engine-until a small group of Web rivals joined forces to save it. The Web has been showing its age.

Saw this over the summer and thought it raised some good questions about IEP initiatives, a child's ability to learn technical frameworks without explicit instruction, community engagement, technological innovation in impoverished areas, etc.

Speaking at LIFT 2007, Sugata Mitra talks about his Hole in the Wall project. Young kids in this project figured out how to use a PC on their own -- and then taught other kids. He asks, what else can children teach themselves? Sugata Mitra's "Hole in the Wall" experiments have shown that, in the absence of supervision or formal teaching, children can teach themselves and each other, if they're motivated by curiosity and peer interest.

I thought this was a great video when I watched it. Very interesting experiment. It reminded me of how I know people who learned other languages through their love of music--they just memorized song lyrics and practiced until they figured out the language!

Our conversation about employing emerging technologies in learning environments reminded me of this article on innovation and finding applications for discoveries with a look inside Xerox PARC.

I wonder if technology can help kids to acquire the skills needed for the multiple marshmallow challenges they will face in their lives (or at least not to loose the skills they were born with!)

This is really interesting! I never considered how primarily speaking through sign-language might thwart opportunities in video-chatting; especially with such a great technology as Google+. Good find!

Amanda, thanks for sharing. I have a soft spot for sign language as I taught a camper years ago with a hearing impairment which resulted in me pursuing some ASL classes in undergrad because I loved being a part of that world! Accessibility is a hot topic in education and to see it being addressed in a more mainstream market makes me very excited for the possibilities!

Personally, I cannot imagine dissecting a body on my iPhone. But, obviously 3,000 customers see this as a must-have. Def. a step towards mobile/distance learning.

Neato! Personally I will leave the dissecting to the MDs. A lot of these iPhone apps (maybe all of them) would better impact education on a larger screen. I bet the oompa loompas inside Steve Job's secret Technology Factory are up to a tablet mac. Such a device would best serve doctors trying to educate their patients.

Good article that plainly states, Web 2.0 and 3.0 are tools that if used properly can engage and effect teaching and learning beyond traditional classroom spaces.

Schools in Denmark are piloting a program which allows students to use computers with internet access on national writing exams.
