Providing multiple means of access to improve engagement- here is a way to add subtitles to instructional videos posted on Youtube.  

Google started YouTube for Schools in December. Now schools can choose the videos they want, "scrubbed of all comments and linked only to other related educational videos."

Agreed about the definition. However, "Almost all the teachers surveyed who said they used games reported that they used ones specifically designed for education, and the games most often corresponded with literacy and reading (50%) and math (35%).", which is encouraging. Kurt Squire is correct in that the data may include a good number of 'trivial games', but that is probably to be expected since the biggest barriers seems to be cost (50% respondents) and technology (46%).

Three video case studies on teaching with games

This ten-minute video uses the protein-folding game FoldIt and another crowdsourced science game called EteRNA as examples. Speaker Adrien Treuille (from CMU) talks about rewards in these types of crowdsourcing games starting around 5:50. He envisions scientific discovery, software development, product design, and societal change being "solved" in the future through a platform that allows for finding, engaging, and paying people at a very individual level: "Find Me, Engage Me, Pay Me."

The nonprofit group called TED, known for streaming 18-minute video lectures about big ideas, today opened a new YouTube channel designed for teachers and professors, with videos that are even shorter. The new channel, called TED-Ed, was announced a year ago, but its leaders are only now unveiling the project's first videos.

A very short clip about a "great model" in the game industry (microtransactions) that allows EA to take advantage of a player's engagement.

A fascinating talk on one aspect of motivation - willpower. Who knew that lower glucose levels decrease willpower, and that performing self-control on one task decreases subsequent control on the next task?

I came across some of Baumeister's articles while researching for my neuroscience project last semester and was fascinated. Thanks for posting this talk; I really look forward to watching it!

Imagine this...

Johnny Mnuemonic is right around the corner! :-) Seriously, I would have a hard time with electronic equipment that close to my head all the time. The warmth from my cell phone bothers me so this product would have to compensate for discomfort with warmth and close viewing. Regardless, it's coming anyway. Interesting how they don't show how it makes work easier, just free time.

I did not give my opinion initially, but the bottom line is: I would go nuts! John Stewart had a great take-off on this based on what "dogs" actually see!

EducationUSA just released a virtual simulation on their Facebook page. They state that it is the "World's first game-based adventure for international students to learn about opportunities in the United States of America." A short YouTube video is linked below.
