This article is about superheroes promoting the wrong message to young children, especially boys. It goes on to say that in order to promote less stereotypical male behaviour in our society we must address the issue of role models and find lies in the images we are sold.

This article looks into how the society of today want a superhero that is not seen as boring but rather has a 'gritty' background. In order to modernize and feel relate-able the character must be darker and the story-line must fit into today's world, for example the dark knight fighting police corruption and urban terrorism.

Agreed. People don't like a superhero as much if they obey all the rules all the time and are a law abiding citizen because it's boring. It's more appealing to people to watch them take the law into their own hands. Captain America is a perfect example and the opening line: "Captain America is only interesting if he's a prick."

I definitely like the idea that superhero's are just as dark and as tortured as villains are. Everyone has a different background story, and they are not perfect, but it is what you do about your situation, and how you learn to grow from it. It makes it much more realistic for us to look at them and say "okay, they have their problems too"

This article exemplifies the idea that superheroes, even the female superheroes have a very masculine make-up. When children watch these movies, they believe that they are supposed to follow suit in terms of build and how they are supposed to act. Is this the right image we should be giving to our children?

I think that this is a good point. It is kind of how you look at the bigger picture as opposed to small things that make them bad though. So even though your example of Iron Man being a playboy is something that are bad examples to children, there are a lot of positive things that happen through out the movie that makes Iron Man look like a really good guy.

The American Psychological Association says that superhero movies today are only giving boys two options for what they can be: a superhero or a slacker. This didn't use to be the case, however. Looking back at old comic books superheros were portrayed with vulnerabilities therefore making them more relateable and better role models for young men.

This is an awesome database, it is very helpful for my topic because I am looking at the underrepresentation of women as super heroes. I can easily go down this list and see that there are very few women.

Ever since ancient times, humanity has sought to use stories to explain the world in which it lives. Just as ancient man used stories of gods and monsters to explain the world, modern man uses stories of godlike heroes and monstrous villains to do the same.

I found this article very interesting because I myself found an article about early childhood development and how it helps the children. It is very interesting to read other articles that go against what we read. This article explains how superheros have a negative impact on young kids.

"Personal prejudice: Hispanic and Latino women with blond hair look like hookers to me, no matter how clean or "cute" they are. Somehow those skin tones that look so good with dark, dark hair just don't work for me with lighter shades. Like I said - personal prejudice." This quote really stuck out to me. People like this are a major contributing factor in the lack of diversity not only in superhero films, but the film industry in general.

Some interesting points about what we see on our screens and what would actually happen in real life. The most interesting points lies in why we root for the superhero in the first place and how our superheroes are no longer the underdogs.

This article really tells us something about Marvel and their lack of interest in creating a superhero movie with a female lead. It seems that Feige is just beating around the bush and doesn't want to openly say that they just don't want to make that step towards female superhero movies. It would work very well for someone doing their paper about gender in superhero movies!

In this article, Kevin Feige, who is the president of marvel studios, says that this is not a good time to try to make a superhero movie starring a female hero, but that this is something that he really wants to happen. He said that it would be hard for them to tell the right story, and that there are a ton of other genre's that are showing movies that have very strong, independent, female leads such as the Hunger Games and Divergent.
