    This article touches on a lot of modern day issues. I like how they talk about all aspects of the diversity being missed like race, sexual orientation, and gender. This article asks questions that most people have thought but have not acted on. It's exciting that there will be a Wonder Women movie coming out and showing that women can also be heroes. Great information displayed!

    This article talks about the diversity in superhero films, race and gender. It lists how when women are shown in these movies, they all look alike. They are superhero sex symbols. Most of the superhero main characters are white straight males. It identifies the problems with stereotypes and the underrepresentation of gay characters in movies.

    This is a very interesting article focusing on diversity in superhero movies. It demonstrated how most heroes in these movies are white males and how women are merely there for sex appeal. However it did mention in the very beginning that a wonder woman movie will be coming out in 2017 which is exciting for women.

    But I think that that is the reason that we are drawn to these types of movies. If the superhero was not super attractive I don't think that we would enjoy the movies as much. That is really bad for me to say, because it plays along with stereotype and overall impressions of this genre. But anymore, I think that for every genre this is what is happening. You are always looking for the hot star at the time.

    This is a really good database can have... even if there is kind of a lot to look at, I think that it is cool to really break it down. You can look at this and see gender and ethnicity and really get an idea for numbers where they stand.

    This is an awesome database, it is very helpful for my topic because I am looking at the underrepresentation of women as super heroes. I can easily go down this list and see that there are very few women.

I thought this quote from the article was really interesting "As somebody recently pointed out, there are currently more big budget superhero films headlined by blond men named Chris than by women and other ethnicities combined.     I am looking at this same topic for my project, and I think that women have just been portrayed as the damsels in distress for so long that it is hard to get passed that. Would a movie like Iron Man be just as successful if it was Iron Woman? It is easier for women to appear as side kicks such as Piper in the Iron Man movies. Even though she is not the hero, she does a lot to contribute to the success of Tony Stark. Would it work the other way around?

    I thought this was a great article for my research topic. A quote i enjoyed was when the author was talking about women in refrigerators and said, "female characters are killed off just to provide a motive for their male counterparts. In the films they seldom even garner this much attention". This is very true in many super hero movies.

    This was a good article for my topic. My paper deals with diversity in regards to both gender and race and supported some of the points in my research. I also liked the part about X-Men because that was the movie I coded and am using as examples for my paper.

    There has been a lot of talk about the inclusion of female roles in superhero movies. But instead of them being supporting roles, we are looking for them to star in their own films. We are looking for spin off movies for black widow, who played supporting roles in Iron Man and The Avengers. But they are also talking about bringing back Wonder Woman.

    This article is very interesting because it explains how females are always the supporting role and never the star, especially in superhero movies. I found this interesting because our society is so used to seeing male superheros instead of females.

    I believe superhero movies in the past have had strictly male heroes because men in society have always been thought of as the strong and independent gender. Since times and gender perceptions are changing, I expect and am excited to see more female heroes portrayed in movies.

    I really enjoyed this article because it shows how the public wants to see more females as the starring roles in superhero movies. In the past most superhero movies have men as the heroes however movies such as the Hunger Games have changed that and shown how women can be superheroes too. .

    This article really shows how important the first female-led debute is right now and how if Marvel doesn't take advantage of it then someone else will. It's a big step but one that needs to be made and this article makes that clear. I really enjoyed reading it!

    I thought this article was very interesting. It touched base on how there is a demand for a female lead in a superhero movie instead of just a supporting role. One of the quotes mentioned in the article that I found interesting was that directors and producers were hesitant to make a female super hero movie because Catwoman and Elektra which starred female super heroes as the main character received poor consumer response in the box offices.

    And for those of you not keeping count, Wonder Woman still remains at 1 feature-length film, which was an animated direct-to-video movie in 2009. Now, I'm no math major, but something seems off here. Where are all the female superheroes?

    Good article focusing on the importance of having female characters, characters of color and characters of different sexualities because we are not a world of solely white, heterosexual males. This is often the stereotype in superheroes.

    This is a very interesting article about how female superheroes are very underestimated. I think this would be a good article for anyone looking at gender.     This article really tells us something about Marvel and their lack of interest in creating a superhero movie with a female lead. It seems that Feige is just beating around the bush and doesn't want to openly say that they just don't want to make that step towards female superhero movies. It would work very well for someone doing their paper about gender in superhero movies!

    In this article, Kevin Feige, who is the president of marvel studios, says that this is not a good time to try to make a superhero movie starring a female hero, but that this is something that he really wants to happen. He said that it would be hard for them to tell the right story, and that there are a ton of other genre's that are showing movies that have very strong, independent, female leads such as the Hunger Games and Divergent.

    "Personal prejudice: Hispanic and Latino women with blond hair look like hookers to me, no matter how clean or "cute" they are. Somehow those skin tones that look so good with dark, dark hair just don't work for me with lighter shades. Like I said - personal prejudice." This quote really stuck out to me. People like this are a major contributing factor in the lack of diversity not only in superhero films, but the film industry in general.

    I really liked this article because this issue is a hot topic in the media today. Whether boys should play with dolls and girls be policemen-- I think this article says it perfectly when we assume boys should like superheroes and want to be masculine like they are. I also agree that parents should talk with their kids about the different stereotyping but allow them to make their own choice.

    This article is fitting with a key debate in today's society over the influences that children have within their lives. Boys should like blue, girls should like pink. It fit's into everyday life as women are portrayed through media as damsels in distress and that men are the knights in shining armour. Stereotyping is slowly becoming an issue that more and more parents are dealing with when bringing children up.

    This is an example of social comparison. The article talks about how we see bodies of superheroes and want to be like them, but that is unrealistic. It examples what the stars of these movies go through to achieve their physiques and how that will never be a reality for normal people.

    I like this article because it speaks to the unrealistic expectation of being like a superhero. It talks about how normal people cannot achieve the physical physique of these actors because they just don't have the resources. This article helps prove that we associate superheroes with muscular physiques, but that it is not achievable for the average person.

    This infographic is awesome! It was interesting looking at the infographic statistics compared to the cross tabulations. Some statistics correlated perfectly but others were complete opposites.

    I found this infographic awesome as well. It was interesting to relate the statistics in these infographics to the cross-tabulations of the data we collected as a group. Some were consistent, while others were not. For example, this infographic showed black as being the most common color of villains, where our cross-tabulations showed that villains wore more light and bright colors. Interesting information and easy to read.

    To say the comic book industry has a slight gender skew is like saying Superman is kind of strong. Comic books - much like the film industry they now fuel - vastly under-represent women. The people who write comic books, particularly for major publishers, are overwhelmingly men.

    This article focuses on comic books as a male dominated industry. The problem that fighting for equality and more women in lead roles is that the industry will not change unless they all change. Meaning that why would they change from a male lead to a female lead, if they can make more money with the male superhero. The sad truth is that this will always be a problem within the superhero world. And this article talks exactly about that.

    This article expands on military in superhero movies. It discusses the militarization of the heroes in these films and how the violence and weaponry have shifted from fantasy to hyper-realism. I think it raises some interesting points.

    It also shows the impact of society and recent events and their affect on how our own superheroes are then portrayed to its audience. Our superheroes have to be continually updated, and in this instance, in terms of weaponry to (in a sense) stay relevant to the audience.
