Title: Guided Participation Author: Zeynep Isik-Ercan & Susan Golbeck - The Gale Group Date Published: 2009 Why Relevant & Summary: Not only explains what Guided Participation is, but also it's roots from both Vygotsky & Barbara Rogoff from her book "Apprenticeship in Thinking." How This Influenced My Thinking: It elaborated upon the information from the textbook, explained how social interaction plays a role in cognitive development, and the origins of the guided participation concept. Credibility of Source: Great - lots of references at the bottom of this article.

The article talks about how guided participation helps the child to achieve their goals. How this influenced my thinking: Helps me to realize the method of teaching I can do for my children so they will teach others the same way. Credibility of Source: There is a bibliography at the end to cite their sources that are equivalent to the sources of theory used.

It talks about how certain toys can help with their development, and use of imagination. How This Influenced My Thinking: It helped back up what I had in mind. Credibility of Source: It seems credible. It has several other links incase one is interested in learning more about a specific or different subject.

How This Influenced My Thinking: Makes the idea of ZPD and scaffolding very clear in my mind and reinforced the importance of this idea. Oakes Date Published: August 9, 2010 Why Relevant and Summary: This article is relevant because it discusses and defines habituation and dishabituation. As it gives examples of habituation and dishabituation and provides references of studies done on infants to test habituation and dishabituation. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article furthered my understanding of habituation and dishabituation. Credibility of Source: Article found in the Journal of Cognition and Development. very credible.

Title:Outdoor Play Author: Johnson, Christie & Wardle Date Published: 2005 Why relevant/summary: This article is relevant because it throughly discusses the importance of physical activity to a growing toddler, specifically how outdoor play can aide in not only their physical development but how it can also be used as a tool for cognitive learning opportunities. How this influenced my thinking: This article opened my eyes to how outdoor play is not only providing play and physical activity for a young child but also many different learning opportunities that they may not experience otherwise. Credibility of Source: Very credible, the authors provided many examples as well as citations and references.

Why Relevant and Summary: This website discusses Piagets theory on cognitive development and gives wonderful examples to help elaborate the meanings. How This Influenced My Thinking: These website gave me a clearer understanding as to what Piaget's theory was and how I can correlate it with my writing assignment about how it's proven that children are not just smaller versions of adults. Breus Date Published: August 17, 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: This article offers a study doing on a variety of lower class cultures and their children whom have co-slept with there parents. The researcher test their cognitive skills and behavior development. How This Influenced My Thinking: This influence my way of thinking that bonding can happen even while sleeping. Credibility of Source: the article was written by an author with a Ph.D and was found on Psychology Today.

Title: Piagets stages of development Author: Roy Benaroch Date Published: 1012 Why relevant and summary: This artice reviews all four stages of piagets theory and elaborates on each one. it gives exampels of each stage and also the ages each stage happend Influenced my thinking: this gave me a better understanding of how children think at each particular agge of their development Credibility of Source: This page is written and reviewed by an MD and it also contains references for where the informayion is coming from. it all relates to out textbook as well.

Title:Selective optimization with compensation Author: many Date published:1999 Why relevant and summary: This site is a wikipedia psychology site that provides the reader with an explanation of what SOC is. It also gives a great example of a 75 year man who tries to maximize his cognitive resources. Further more, it breaks down the word 'selective optimization with compensation' and tells you what each word implies on its own, and how all the words as a whole make up the meaning of the theory. How this influenced my thinking: This influenced my thinking by providing me with a great example of SOC in a way that really helped my understanding of it. The idea of SOC makes perfect sense and i can see why psychologists use it when they are talking about successful aging. Credibility of source: I feel like the site was pretty credible. There were references but it was a wiki page

Title: Dr. Leaf; Switch on Your Brain Author: Dr. Caroline Leaf Date Published: 2013 Why Relevant & Summary: Dr. Leaf discusses a person's thought life and how that relates to biological & cognitive changes. How this influenced my thinking: This article shows how what one thinks about truly influences health. Credibility of Source: 7/Qualified neurologist and educator

Title:Intelligence: The Measurement of Cognitive Capabilities Date: n.d Author: Angela Oswalt Summary and Why Relevant: it is relevant because it talks about the intelligence of children and what affects their intelligence. I believe that it is a good site because it goes into IQ test and how they work on children. How This Influenced My Thinking: It made me realize that children are more complex in their intelligence than I thought them to be. Their brains are a mystery and everyone learns and thinks differently. Credibility of Source: It is from a mental health website.

How This Influenced My Thinking: It gave me good insight on how cognitive abilities is truly measured and that there is not one sure way approach to do this. Title: The Development of Self-Esteem Author: Sue and Jo Date Published: No Date Why Relevant and Summary: This is a straightforward summary of a child's cognitive development of self-esteem. Although it doesn't include many details of what contributes to a child's self-esteem it does clearly define what its makeup is. How This Influenced My Thinking: This was interesting to me because it summed up the definition of self-esteem in a nutshell. I am personally interested in how to promote a healthy self-esteem in children but this website gives a good foundation for the outline of what self-esteem is and what factors affect it. Credibility of Source: It looks like it's some sort of personal website; however, it does cite studies and seems to back up its statements with scientific data.
