Lowcountry Africana, sponsored by the Magnolia Plantation Foundation of Charleston, South Carolina, will be entirely dedicated to records that document the family and cultural heritage of African Americans in the historic rice-growing areas of South Carolina, Georgia and extreme northeastern Florida, an area that scholars and preservationists have identified as a distinct culture area, home to the rich Gullah/Geechee culture. The Lowcountry Africana website will be a treasure trove of primary documents, book excerpts and multimedia for exploring and documenting the dynamic cultural and family heritage of the Lowcountry Southeast. The LOUISiana Digital Library (LDL) is an online library of over 84,000 digital materials about Louisiana's history, culture, places, and people. Its purpose is to make unique historical treasures from Louisiana's archives, libraries, museums, and other repositories in the state electronically accessible to Louisiana residents and to students, researchers, and the general public in other states and countries. The LOUISiana Digital Library contains photographs, maps, manuscript materials, books, oral histories, and more that document Louisiana's history and culture.

From 1935-1943, the WPA built many public buildings and roads. Almost every American community has a park, bridge or facility constructed by the WPA. The program promoted literacy training, health and education improvement projects as well as programs for art and music. This collection provides over 5,000 photographs documenting these activities in Louisiana. The Louisiana Writers Project compiled collections of folklore, legends, recipes, local history and interviewed local citizens and former slaves. Transcriptions of newspapers dating to 1815 provide insights into the culture and history of Louisiana. The WPA Collection was placed in the custody of the State Library when the WPA ended early in 1943. It has since remained, more or less in storage, and in large degree inaccessible. Now available to the public, this digitized material provides a unique look into the history and culture of Louisiana.

Pennsylvania Civil War Era Collection contain all the words, photographs, and advertisements from selected newspapers published during the pivotal years before, during, and after the U.S. Civil War. Newspapers played a prominent role in the conflict. They helped mobilize public opinion for, or against, the war, relayed battlefield developments to their readers, and documented political life on the homefront. Beyond military or political concerns there is much on cultural topics including travel, arts and leisure, sports and contests, and local social events.

An intensely personal account of the immigration experience as related by a young Jewish girl from Plotzk (a town in the government of Vitebsk, Russia). Mary Antin, with her mother, sisters, and brother, set out from Plotzk in 1894 to join their father, who had journeyed to the "Promised Land" of America three years before. Fourth class railroad cars packed to suffocation, corrupt crossing guards, luggage and persons crudely "disinfected" by German officials who feared the cholera, locked "quarantine" portside, and, finally, the steamer voyage and a famiily reunited. For anyone who has ever wondered what it was like for their grandparents or great grandparents to emmigrate from Europe to the United States last century, this is a fascinating narrative. Mary Antin went on to become an immigration rights activist. She also wrote an autobiography, The Promised Land, published in 1912, which detailed her assimilation into American culture. LA Creole is a New Orleans based non-profit family research organization dedicated to the study of the history and culture of the Creoles of Color of Louisiana through ancestral research, education, and celebration.

The Florida Historical Quarterly, the academic journal of the Florida Historical Society, promotes scholarly research and appreciation for the peoples, places, themes, and diversity of Florida's past. The Society is the oldest cultural institution in the state, tracing its origins to 1856. The Quarterly has served to expand understanding of Florida's historical development and offers a broad spectrum of articles. Published four times annually, the Quarterly continues the tradition of high quality scholarly articles established and maintained by the Society. The Quarterly has been a central component of the mission of the Florida Historical Society to promote scholarly research and publication. Students, researchers, and casual readers may use the collection liberally, although reproduction of materials for use outside of classrooms must be approved by the Society.

"This newspaper holds so much history and information and is a valuable resource for our community. Having it available online makes it more easily accessible for everyone," Cr Natoli said. The Nambour Chronicle was the local newspaper for the Sunshine Coast from 1903 until 1980 when the Sunshine Coast Daily was born. The Chronicle from that period no longer exists in hard copy, but its microfilm version is a valuable research resource for the history, culture and development of the region. "Unfortunately, constant usage has damaged the microfilm copies of the Chronicle, which are held in Maroochy and Caloundra libraries. It was a decision between maintaining the old films or digitising,'' Cr Natoli said.

Although the Victorian Web concentrates on British literature, history, and culture during the age of Victoria, it includes relevant material related to both earlier and later periods. Similarly, it includes comparative materials from countries outside the United Kingdom.

"Documenting Arkansas is an online digital archive of documents, visuals, maps, broadsides, pamphlets, and three-dimensional objects significant to Arkansas history and culture, from the holdings of the Arkansas History Commission, Arkansas's state archives."

"The Mapping the National Parks collection documents the history, cultural aspects and geological formations of areas that eventually became National Parks. The collection consists of approximately 200 maps dating from the 17th century to the present, reflecting early mapping of the areas that would become four National Parks, as well as the parks themselves. Production of this collection is being supported by a generous gift from The Rockefeller Foundation. "

Established in 1907, The National Library exists to collect, preserve and celebrate the heritage and culture of Wales. At present our photography collection contains over 800,000 photographs ranging from the early days of photography to contemporary photographers.
