The American Civil Liberties Union has a vast array of materials hosted on their site. Perhaps the materials of greatest use to teachers are the frequent "news releases" about issues pertaining to our individual freedoms that are currently in the news.

The is a site that teachers should bookmark and read weekly because it keeps you up to date with the issues of the day.

Documentary from the American Social History Project. It looks at the American Revolution from a social history perspective. It follows the events of the 1770s from the perspective of a Boston shoemaker. Interesting take. I've found the documentaries produced by this organization to be excellent.

Excellent site in general. The video and audio are high quality and, I am sure, are quite accessible for students of all level.s

This is a somewhat scholarly look at how African Americans, artisans and small farmers viewed the Constitution. Great for your own background or to give honors or AP kids something to think about and wrestle with. Not your typical point of view!

The 14th Amendment granted citizenship and equal civil and legal rights to African-Americans and slaves who had been emancipated after the American Civil War. This simple overview of the 14th Amendment and Brown vs Board of Education would be appropriate for elementary students. It does have short advertisements.

From the LOC their information and primary sources on the Seneca Falls Convention.  In addition to the manuscript, it also has additional views about the convention from other sources of the time.  This might be good to use to have students compare the viewpoints of the time.

This primary source document inlcudes key sources on the Constitutional government and an introduction that highlights key themes. Included are; The American Founding, Constitutional Government, Progressivism and Liberalism and Conservatism.

A huge resource of various primary sources from 500 BC to 1800 AD

A massive collection of literature and documents which were relevant to the colonists lives in America. Beginning in 500 B.C. - 500 A.D. through 1700-1800s. So for those Early American History lovers this is a good one. It also includes military documents.

This is a website that gives detailed analysis of the Pros and Cons of divisive issues debated by American society. It's a great way to start many a debate. Furthermore, it has specific connections to many Constitutional debates like Gun Control, Capital Punishment, and Citizenship.

I went searching for a useful article on the Shelby County v. Holder decision. I wanted to supplement the material provided in the Middle School Lesson for this week, which covered a history of voting rights in America. The materials did not go so far as to include this recent development, which arguable disenfranchised a large portion of Americans. I would read this article with the students and then add a character for "period 4" in the lesson who, students would realize, may be disenfranchised by this 2013 Supreme Court decision.

And make sure students realize the close proximity in date of this article and story. This is as current as it gets.

This was from the link in the high school lesson plan, which now works. The item labeled "The Split over Suffrage" has what looks to be a very interesting lesson for the Reconstruction period

The split between Frederick Douglass, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony is an interesting topic for high school students who can differentiate between the nuances of belief systems among these players.

Wow. I came across the site when I clicked on a link in the CUNY website, and I was blown away. I am amazed that I haven't come across this website before (I bet most of you have). It's got a plethora of primary sources on revolutionary and post-revolutionary America, as well as many other eras throughout American history. It also has teaching tools and lesson plans. I think that what I like the most about it is how well organized it seems to be. I will definitely be using this!

Indeed, bookmark this site because it has just about anything you might want. It, and the archives, are the staples for US history teachers.

If you click on the resource section on the left side of the website there are great timelines and resources regarding the Chinese in America. There is census data and a list of organizations that can help you with resources. There is a lot to dig through on this site, but worth the effort.

Another good resource site and interesting lesson plans that focus on the Chinese experience in America. This could provide more background information for you as you get into the Chinese Exclusion Act and how citizenship was denied to Asian Americans for many years.

Good summary of major actions and players with links to more detailed accounts.

This primary source document on the 15h Amendment speaks volumes when it states "Although ratified on February 3, 1870, the promise of the 15th Amendment would not be fully realized for almost a century. There are Historical Collection links as well.

There is a lot to improve on here - but also a lot of great essential questions. A really good starting point for someone new to the course or profession - and interesting food for thought for the veterans!
