JP Morgan and ConsenSys announced that the Quorum open source project would be acquired and managed by ConsenSys as part of a strategic investment by JPM. ConsenSys Quorum is an open source protocol layer that serves as a foundation for businesses to build public or private Ethereum-based enterprise solutions.

JP Morgan is tapping Microsoft's Azure cloud-based services to boost its blockchain-based Quorum platform, aiming to make it easier, faster and cheaper for companies to build and deploy blockchain applications.

JPMorgan Chase & Co is in talks to merge its marquee blockchain unit Quorum with Brooklyn-based startup ConsenSys, according to people familiar with the plans, according to sources.

Ethereum studio ConsenSys will reportedly integrate Quorum into the China state-sanctioned Blockchain Service Network (BSN). The BSN is a service infrastructure that allows developers to build decentralized applications on top of blockchains that it supports, like Hyperledger Fabric, Ethereum, and Polkadot. It is backed by the State Information Center of China, a think tank under the country's cabinet-level economic planning agency, the National Development and Reform Commission. Beijing-based Red Date Technology oversees the operations and development of the platform.

Visa is partnering with Consensys to build a CBDC on-ramp. Visa aims to create a central bank digital currency (CBDC) sandbox, available in the spring of 2022, where central banks can experiment with distributing the technology after minting on Consensys' Quorum blockchain-based protocol. Central banks would design their CBDC on Consensys' Quorum where they would set its monetary and governance rules. They would then use Visa's infrastructure to distribute the currency via payment service providers.

State Farm and USAA are testing a blockchain-based system to automate the time-consuming and paper-heavy processing of automobile claims. It runs on JP Morgan's Quorum enterprise version of ethereum.

JPMorgan Chase's blockchain team has developed a privacy feature for ethereum-based blockchains, obscuring not only how much money is being sent but who is sending it.

China's Blockchain-based Service Network (BSN) - a public-private nationwide infrastructure project to spur mass adoption of blockchain technology - is setting up international portals in Turkey and Uzbekistan, following its September announcements to set up BSN portals in Hong Kong and South Korea. The BSN integrates frameworks such as Ethereum, Algorand, EOS, Polkadot, NEO, Tezos, Oasis, Hyperledger Fabric, ConsenSys Quorum, and Corda. It is also supported by cloud services, including Amazon Web Services, Google, and Microsoft Azure.

Visa has teamed up with Ethereum scaling firm ConsenSys to help central bank digital currency (CBDC) networks bridge the gap with traditional financial institutions. Visa has created a CBDC Payments Module to serve as an on-ramp for CBDCs to existing payment networks. Banks and issuer processors will be able to plug into the module and integrate their existing infrastructure. Customers will eventually be able to use their CBDC-linked Visa card or digital wallet anywhere that Visa is accepted globally. Visa is currently in the process of integrating the Module with the ConsenSys Codefi CBDC sandbox powered by ConsenSys Quorum.

The Bank of Israel published an update on their CBDC proof-of-concept (PoC) experiments, including some that were based on distributed-ledger technology (DLT) infrastructure on the cloud, and the application of a Quorum blockchain based on Ethereum. They also examined a platform developed by VMware in which there would be a wallet that can hold "ordinary" digital shekels, the transfer of which is recorded in the ledger, and "private" digital shekels, the transfer details of which are not recorded openly, and where both sides to the transaction enjoy complete privacy as with cash payments. There would be a periodic (e.g., monthly) "budget" for payment using private shekels.

Blockchain service firm Chainstack recently published a report about developer activity on six major enterprise blockchains, showing that Fabric has overtaken Corda in regard to dev activity on its repository. A chart included in the report shows that Fabric developer activity exceeded Corda's in Q4 2019.
