JP Morgan and ConsenSys announced that the Quorum open source project would be acquired and managed by ConsenSys as part of a strategic investment by JPM. ConsenSys Quorum is an open source protocol layer that serves as a foundation for businesses to build public or private Ethereum-based enterprise solutions.

Visa has teamed up with Ethereum scaling firm ConsenSys to help central bank digital currency (CBDC) networks bridge the gap with traditional financial institutions. Visa has created a CBDC Payments Module to serve as an on-ramp for CBDCs to existing payment networks. Banks and issuer processors will be able to plug into the module and integrate their existing infrastructure. Customers will eventually be able to use their CBDC-linked Visa card or digital wallet anywhere that Visa is accepted globally. Visa is currently in the process of integrating the Module with the ConsenSys Codefi CBDC sandbox powered by ConsenSys Quorum.

ConsenSys has been awarded a cross-border payment network study project by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). The HKMA and the Bank of Thailand (BOT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in May 2019, initiating Project Inthanon-LionRock to study the application of a wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC) for cross-border payments. ConsenSys will work on the second implementation phase of the project, that is aimed at circumventing the correspondent banking network, allowing direct payments between banks.

Visa is partnering with Consensys to build a CBDC on-ramp. Visa aims to create a central bank digital currency (CBDC) sandbox, available in the spring of 2022, where central banks can experiment with distributing the technology after minting on Consensys' Quorum blockchain-based protocol. Central banks would design their CBDC on Consensys' Quorum where they would set its monetary and governance rules. They would then use Visa's infrastructure to distribute the currency via payment service providers.

ConsenSys has joined the Bank of Thailand to explore the potential of blockchain technology in the development of a proof-of-concept prototype for a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) project, alongside SCG and Digital Ventures (DV). The private-permissioned network on Hyperledger Besu will be designed to meet both the functional and non-functional requirements of a retail CBDC. One of the business cases will test the use of a CBDC to simulate daily commerce, automate payments, and support procurement and financial management system called Procure-to-Pay (B2P) developed by DV. In the exploration, CBDC will be tested and issued using ERC20 smart contracts. In partnership with Thailand partner Atato, ConsenSys will architect a solution using its Enterprise Ethereum stack, including ​Codefi​ and ​MetaMask​

The Enforcement Division of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has notified Consensys that it is closing its investigation into Ethereum (ETH) 2.0, and will not pursue an enforcement action against the technology incubator that develops decentralized software services and applications that operate on the Ethereum blockchain. The SEC was investigating whether ETH had become a "security" after it switched from a proof-of-work (PoW) to proof-of-stake (PoS) protocol (from "ETH 1.0" to "ETH 2.0"). In April 2024, Consensys had filed a lawsuit against the SEC, alleging that the investigation was an "unlawful seizure of authority" over Ethereum, on the grounds that ETH is a "commodity" and therefore outside the SEC's jurisdiction.

JPMorgan Chase & Co is in talks to merge its marquee blockchain unit Quorum with Brooklyn-based startup ConsenSys, according to people familiar with the plans, according to sources.

Korean public blockchain Klaytn announced it has partnered with Ethereum developer ConsenSys to advance its central bank digital currency (CBDC) efforts. Klaytn was founded by Ground X, a subsidiary of Kakao, which operates Korea's largest social network of over 50 million users. Last October, the Bank of Korea acknowledged it was discussing central bank digital won with Klaytn amongst other private players.

Ethereum studio ConsenSys will reportedly integrate Quorum into the China state-sanctioned Blockchain Service Network (BSN). The BSN is a service infrastructure that allows developers to build decentralized applications on top of blockchains that it supports, like Hyperledger Fabric, Ethereum, and Polkadot. It is backed by the State Information Center of China, a think tank under the country's cabinet-level economic planning agency, the National Development and Reform Commission. Beijing-based Red Date Technology oversees the operations and development of the platform.

ConsenSys white paper provides a concrete example of how a central bank digital currency might be implemented on the Ethereum blockchain.

Samsung Electronics will reportedly participate in the Bank of Korea's central bank digital currency (CBDC) proof-of-concept (PoC) work reportedly co-managed by Ground X, a blockchain affiliate of messenger platform, Kakao. Ground X has partnered with ConsenSys to create the Klaytn Ethereum-based public-permissioned blockchain that the PoC will be run on. Ground X will start work in August, with the first phase to be completed by December.

Known as the Communications Blockchain Network (CBN), this will revolutionize the ICT Service Provider industry's commercial settlement infrastructure, representing an opportunity worth billions to the global industry.

Utility Settlement Coin (USC), the blockchain-based payments system involving commercial and central banks, will be working with ConsenSys-backed startup Adhara, CoinDesk has learned. Adhara was behind Project Khokha, which used enterprise blockchain client Quorum to see how zero-knowledge proofs performed with the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).

Denis Beau, First Deputy Governor of the Bank of France, addressed the "What Ambitions For Europe" Stablecoin Conference. Paris Europlace and ConsenSys organized the event this January. The Reserve Bank of Australia is partnering with Commonwealth Bank, National Australia Bank, Perpetual and ConsenSys Software, a blockchain technology company, on a collaborative project to explore the potential use and implications of wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC) using distributed ledger technology (DLT). A proof-of-concept (POC) will be used to explore the implications of atomic delivery-versus-payment and other potential programmability and automation features of tokenised CBDC and financial assets. It will start by funding, settling and repaying tokenised syndicated loans on an Ethereum-based platform.

Ethereum toolkit MetaMask now allows users to swap tokens from within the app itself. MetaMask owner ConsenSys said saying that the new feature would request token prices from decentralized exchanges and aggregators so that users can get the best prices. MetaMask will support Uniswap, Airswap, Kyber, 0x API, 1inch.exchange, dex.ag, Paraswap, Totle, and private market makers for the feature. This approach means that users won't need to navigate these platforms individually to find the optimal price. The feature is initially available to users of the MetaMask extension on the Firefox browser and will be rolled out soon to other browsers and MetaMask Mobile.

China's Blockchain-based Service Network (BSN) - a public-private nationwide infrastructure project to spur mass adoption of blockchain technology - is setting up international portals in Turkey and Uzbekistan, following its September announcements to set up BSN portals in Hong Kong and South Korea. The BSN integrates frameworks such as Ethereum, Algorand, EOS, Polkadot, NEO, Tezos, Oasis, Hyperledger Fabric, ConsenSys Quorum, and Corda. It is also supported by cloud services, including Amazon Web Services, Google, and Microsoft Azure.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has launched a project to develop ways to directly connect central banks and securities depositories in the ASEAN+3 region within a blockchain network. The region consists of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations plus Japan, the People's Republic of China, and the Republic of Korea. ADB is partnering with ConsenSys, Fujitsu, R3, and Soramitsu on the project, which will also examine systems interoperability and the viability of central bank digital currency (CBDC) in the region.
