How to Remix: 8 steps - wikiHow - 0 views

  •
Wiki how to the rescue? A small guide to some of us embarking on audio remix final projects.
  •
This site tries to categorize how to do a good remix!  I find the idea of a "how to" for remix a little bit hypocritical...

NBC chimes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  •
"The chimes were the first ever audio trademark to be accepted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office." How far can the NBC trademark for its chimes be taken? 3 notes. Easy to inadvertently put in a song. How does trademark in this case differ from copyright?

'Collect the WWWorld' attempts to archive the internet through art | The Verge - 0 views

  •
I really like this article. It's about a Web Remix art exhibit. The artist isn't sure how long he can keep it running since he knows he's infringing copyrights. But his statement below makes so much sense explaining how web collage is a natural derivation of what's online: ""If you see just one video on YouTube, it doesn't make sense to you," Quaranta explained. But as a collection, a thesis emerges."

Go Google: Hall and Oates - YouTube - 0 views

This google commercial is pretty cool cause it highlights how sites are making it easier for people to collaborate, specifically for music here. Participatory culture?  Also, it's just funny and makes you think about how songs are constructed.

"One Man Disney Movie" Nick Pitera Disney Medley Music Video - YouTube - 0 views

  •
This guy takes a bunch of Disney songs and mashes them up.  But he also notes through his visual layout how all of the movies have the same archetypal characters.  It's kinda fun to think about how he put it all together!

A Toy Train in Space - YouTube - 0 views

  •
This is so cute!  But, in relation to class it shows how technology can be used for things outside of the house.  For instance, they used an old cell phone remixed as a gps to find the fallen balloon and train.   Technology, bringing the average human closer to space (corny line).

Stop Online Piracy Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

SOPA - a lot to digest here. But this was a big deal earlier in the year to Wikipedia and Google, regarding how this act would force them to censor any work that their sites reference that is pirated.

Katy Perry Firework - A Capella Cover - Mike Tompkins - Beatbox - YouTube - 0 views

  •
Not much of a fan of this, but I found it pretty cool how Mike Tompkins has recorded himself as the singer, the snare, the violin, and other various instruments and mashed them all together to remix Katy Perry's, "Firework." It reminds me of early hip-hop artist taking samples from different songs to create their own original track. Mike manages to create a  multi person band with only himself.

When Freemium Fails - WSJ.com - 1 views

  •
"Freemium" can build a customer base for apps on iOS/Android/etc., but does it generate revenue? If we apply this model to remix, then having The Beatles hate on Danger Mouse's Grey Album makes complete sense. From a business perspective...
  •
i agree this is a big challenge. does remix culture, as we've outlined so far, contribute or enhance this dilemma?
  •
I guess we (as "remixers") have to consider how we want people to respond to a remix. What is their next step when they hear/see it? Just to share it, or to somehow engage with the content more deeply that perhaps leads to a purchase? I don't think we've quite outlined yet our main endgame, or deliverable from the "consumer," with a remix.

Google Chrome Android Update - iOS - 2 views

This ad kind of epitomizes remix culture to me. It shows how easy it is for people to combine different sounds or videos on modern technology. Plus the ad plays on hulu which is a more interactive type of media viewing environment.
  •
I love that this makes its own remix in sounds too. It audibly embodies what it's portraying that you are able to do with the web. Use lots of devices to interact with the web and have a totally new, remixed experience.
  •
i like watching this, but, for me, i want to ask, how did they make it? can we make it? yes...we....can!

Bill O'Reilly: "F*CK IT WE'LL DO IT LIVE" - That Video Site - 0 views

  •
Bill's blast from the past. It's funny how disconnected a TV persona is from the contemporary life, people, and even expressions (?): "to play us out...what does that even mean?" (I am also about to post a remix of this video).

Jay Bradner: Open-source cancer research | Video on TED.com - 0 views

  •
"How does cancer know it's cancer? At Jay Bradner's lab, they found a molecule that might hold the answer, JQ1 -- and instead of patenting JQ1, they published their findings and mailed samples to 40 other labs to work on. "
