V for Vendetta Speech - YouTube - 0 views

Lessig's interview with Charlie Rose reminded me of this film. Lessig talks about how corrupt our democratic system of government has become and how society has lost its voice, and that is basically what this film is about.

A transcript from 2005 of the notorious Bill O'Reilly and his guest who discuss the remix
  •
Lessig is interviewed about Remix Culture, the Creative Commons, and his opinion of copyright law. He basically claims that copyright law is out of date with technology and the needs of society. He specifically references the Kahle v Ashcroft(2003) case and MGM vs Grokster(2005).

Lawrence Lessig Interview: - 0 views

Can't remember the specific time period in the interview, somewhere in the last 5 minutes. The idea of the "Good German" in our society mentioned--referring to someone who tacitly stands by and by his or her silence enables an atrocity. For example during WW2 there were many Germans who stood aside and allowed/enabled the holocaust. Americans are being "good germans" in the common sentiment that Congress is corrupt and beyond reach, but the action shown in response to SOPA and PIPA reveals there is a way for the vox populi to bring about change/fight the wrong kind of change.

Kristen Bell sloth story gets auto-tuned, featured on 'Ellen' (Video) - Celebritology 2... - 1 views

  •
I think auto-tuning is an interesting way to remix a conversation into a song...such as when Kristen Bell went onto Ellen and told her about her love of sloths. This was a really funny interview, but the way they have edited the footage and auto-tuned Ellen and Kristen makes it only more hilarious!

The song is hilarious, but the original video is EASILY the funniest thing I've ever seen on the internet. I do not remember a video that I have honestly ever enjoyed more.

NEW MEDIA: Removal of Banksy Mural Sparks Graffiti Ownership Debate - 0 views

  • The presence of street art as a legitimized art form (thanks to artists like Banksy) has raised questions about ownership, and in this case, who would have jurisdiction over the fate of the Banksy mural.
  • According to the Free Press, the lawyers interviewed agreed the Packard Plant’s owners have that jurisdiction because Banksy was trespassing on their property and abandoned his piece, although gallery directors say a Packard Plant foreman gave them permission to remove the mural.
  •
If Banksy cannot own his work on somebody's else's wall, why do artists own their music on somebody's else CDs?

Lawrence Lessig Daily Show - 0 views

Idea of money blocking access. Lessig is talking about Congress and political fundraising, but this is applicable to copyright and the participation gap that is a problem in our new media society.

The Indie rock group, Wild Flag has had a huge year both before and after the release of their self titled debut album. This interview with the band gives some insight into singer/guitarist Carrie Brownstein's songwriting process. She, unexpectedly, acknowledges Rihanna as an influence on the songs off the album. She tells Rolling Stone, "The melody for Romance, I came up with after a day of listening to Rihanna and Beyonce and then filtering it through my messed up post-punk filter."
