The World's Smallest Arm Chip Is Going To Be Inside You - 0 views

  •
This article is about Freescale launching the world's smallest arm chip. It is made of silicon and is only 2 x 2 x 0.5mm. It can hold 48 HMz ARMM Cortex-M0+ processor, 32KB flash memory, and 4KB of RAM. This, however, is not designed to run desktop software, but is instead intended to be used for products that can be swallowed. I think this is an improvement on "Portable Computing", as this technology can be used in the medical field. This also follows the trend of minimization, as we can now see the potential and advantages of having smaller chips, for example, inserting them into pills that can be swallowed. Freescale is pricing this product at 75 cents apiece, if purchased in 100 000 unit loads. However, I am certain that the cost will go up dramatically if launched successfully, causing the a shift in the electronic market and economy.

Windows 8 Consumer Preview now available to download - 0 views

  •
Microsoft has finally released the Windows 8 Consumer Preview, the successor to the Developer Preview they released a few months ago. In this version, Xbox Live support has been added, along with the Windows Store opening for business, which lets users download new Metro apps... but not Desktop apps. Also, the Start Button has been moved to this slide-out panel to the right of the screen. I think Microsoft is taking a huge misstep with Windows 8 in terms of it's UI. They should either have all desktop or all Metro UI. Having used Windows 8, switching between the two is just weird because of how incredibly different both interfaces are. And don't even get me started with the freakin' ARM version not letting you sideload apps! And- and- and-... I'll stop complaining now.

Steelcase Gesture chair adjusts to support our smartphone slump (video) - 0 views

  •
your mother was right- Posture is important! In this article, a new innovating chair has been introduced to the market, Gesture chair. Ever since the progression of technology in the last decade, tablets, smartphones and computers are everywhere- including the office. These new technologies, and their frequent use have uncovered nine new postures that have never been seen before. And with these new postures, a new chair is needed for the proper support. Many overlook the importance of posture in you health but good posture is as imperative as eating right, exercising and so on. For example, when we are sitting at a computer much like you are now reading this, you are most likely hunched over with you head and neck tilted forward. This hunched over position creates an imbalance between your head and your spinal column forcing the human body to stretch certain spinal ligaments to support your head. This can eventually cause fatigue and pain. However, this is where Gesture comes in; this chair has the ability to support you body's many postures and movements through out the day. Its features include movable arm rests, fluidity in the back that cradles your back and more. This chair encourages movement rather than restricting the body to a certain position. Overall, it is something that can positively affect your health, and shares new ideas regarding the chair and how we can use technology and kinesiology to improve our lives.

3-D Printed Car Is as Strong as Steel, Half the Weight, and Nearing Production | Autopi... - 0 views

  •
This article is about a new 3-wheeled car about to go into production. But this car is not like any other car in production. Instead of picturing large robot arms shooting sparks to make a heavy car this one is 3-d printed, strong as steel, and half the weight. This car is only 1,200 pounds. Although part of the car(named Urbee) is printed plastic, the engine and the rest of the chassis is made of metal. Despite people thinking it is not as safe as cars on the road right now, the makers of the Urbee are claiming to be as safe as those in races. Personally I believe this will be the future of car production and 3d printed cars can a lot better for society.

Google's new Nexus 10 vs. the competition | The Verge - 0 views

On October 29 Google unveiled its new tablet the Nexus 10. This is Google's first 10 inch Nexus device and it runs on an Android 4.2 Jelly Bean Google's newest mobile system, also it comes with some new cutting edge hardware you ever seen in an Android tablet. Google has priced its new tablet at $399 to compete with the other new tablets such as Microsoft Surface, iPad 4th generation, and Kindle Fire HD. The Nexus 10 has a 2560 x 1600 pixel Super PLS display at 300ppi and has a denser display screen than other competitors. The Nexus 10 runs on an ARM Cortex-A15 processor and quad-core Mali T604 graphics processing unit. It has a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 1.9 megapixel front camera. The Nexus's new software has a new user account option that lets multiple users customize the tablet to their own needs without disrupting other users that may have access to it. The only bad thing it lacks the proper apps for a tablet that are available to Android. It is eLifestyle because a lot of people have been waiting for this new tablet and it's different than the latest tablets. It's portable computing because it runs on the new Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and Google's latest mobile system. Has a bigger screen and it will compete very well with the other companies.

Britain's Brand New £1 Billion Battleship Is a 152-Meter Mobile Missile Shield - 0 views

  •
Britain has completed designing and building their Type 45 HMS Diamond  air defense destroyer. This battleship costed an unbelievable one billion pounds and for a good reason. It's equipped to be practically missile-proof which makes it an excellent meat shield (or in this case, a metal shield) for other warships as well as a reliable escort ship. It's also eqipped with a large array of weaponry including anti-air missiles and turrets, missile interceptors, torpedoes, cannons, machine guns, and highly-advanced radar. Before we revel in the supposed awesomeness of a huge warship, we have to ask, "why does Britain need a warship this heavily armed?" With the growing conflict in the Middle-East, war seems not far off so it's important countries are prepared to stop any insurgencies before they can pass

Samsung's Chromebook 2 made official: stitched leather and ARM processors | Android Cen... - 0 views

  •
A new hardware leak is made official this week, the Chromebook 2. It runs a Chrome OS. This article says that it's exterior  includes stitched leather, and a full HD 1980x1080 screen. Some cool hardware jammed in there, is an Exnos 5 Octa processor which clocks in at 2.1 GHz. Also includes 4 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage available. It's expected to have eight hours of battery life. The chromebook will cost either $320 or $400. For a machine that is internet dependent, and is mainly used for web surfing and storing on the cloud, $400 might actually be too expensive. I don't need this right now, nor do I want to get one, but I think this is a step forward in the field of cloud computing by google. I think there are definitely some better options to pick from, some being microsoft's version of this. Microsoft office is more widely acclaimed, and has the popular vote over google docs. About the specs, it does its job for what it's worth.

Video: Robot Builds Other Robots From Foam | Danger Room | Wired.com - 0 views

  •
The University of Pennsylvania's Modlab builds a robot that can build and repair other robots using an insulating spray-foam. I think that this is cool because it's actually really hard to build a robot and by spraying insulating foam to create the arms and legs, that's amazing.

TALK TO THE HAND!! Microsoft launches a new product which is called "OmniTouch." It can be used on really anything, on any surface that sense finger position. you can use the OmniTouch on arms, hands, notebooks, and tables. It uses a picoprojector and a 3D scanner similar to kinect.
  •
Soon you, too, will be able to talk to the hand. A new interface created jointly by Microsoft and the Carnegie Mellon Human Computer Interaction Institute allows for interfaces to be displayed on any surface, including notebooks, body parts, and tables. The UI is completely multitouch and the "shoulder-worn" system will locate the surface you're working on in 3D space, ensuring the UI is always accessible. It uses a picoprojector and a 3D scanner similar to the Kinect.

Japan's Ministry of Defense develops spherical drone - 0 views

  •
This drone is quite impressive because not only can this drone fly it is able to adapt to many obstacles that it may encounter such as being hit by something, in which case the drone would still be able to absorb the impact and continue flying. The drone also has the ability to move vertically and horizontally at speeds up to 60 mph. I find this drone incredible, and something that may lead to the future of our armed forces.
