Not a week goes by without news of a lab breakthrough using rats or mice. But of all the promising medical interventions that make it to animal trials, only a fraction seem to translate into major breakthroughs for humans.

Regulatory agencies in the U.S.—including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Food and Drug Administration—as well as regulatory agencies in the European Union and elsewhere in the world require chemicals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and many other products to be tested for toxicity. Animals are forced to ingest or inhale—or are injected with—toxic substances such as gasoline components and mercury. Animals used in these tests suffer extreme pain before they are killed, dissected, and thrown away like garbage.

"One cannot support the reduction of AIDS infections and support legal prostitution at the same time. Prostitution remains one of the leading vectors for AIDS infection. This is true in the case of both legal and illegal prostitution... Prostitutes, because of their many partners, have a greatly increased risk of exposure to HIV. There are a multitude of studies to show the high level of abuse that prostitutes suffer. Women are literally bought and sold as property. The incidence of drug addiction is high among women, partially explaining why they became prostitutes to begin with. The argument for legalization goes something like this. Prostitution will happen anyway but legalization and regulation will help stem the abuses. The argument has 50,000 foot appeal. Using the same logic, slavery (which still exists in many places) should be legalized so underground slaves can be given some measure of human rights. The fact that the ACLU and the bevy of left-wing international groups don't argue for the legalization of slavery shows the logical inconsistency of their position. Further, the legalization of abortion has shown that it lead to a radical increase in abortion. The legalization will lead to an untold number of women being forced into sex slavery. Make no mistake, women will be forced into commercial sex work in greater numbers if it were legalized."

Legalized prostitution creates the same problems that legalized marijuana does. While prostitution is legal, forced prostitution is not. The latter occurs, and the new German law unintentionally makes it harder to hunt down human traffickers, especially from Eastern Europe and Africa. Similarly, it is harder to combat under-aged prostitution. With legalized marijuana and prostitution, Amsterdam became a magnet for human traffickers, drug traders and petty criminals. This is not the world legalization’s proponents envisioned, but it happened."

Laws against prostitution violate Americans' fundamental rights of individual liberty and personal privacy. Thomas Jefferson and other founders of the U.S. envisioned a society where people can live without interference from government, provided they don't harm others

immoral is that it tends to involve coercion. In most cases, people do not freely decide to become prostitutes. In some cases, they are driven to the profession by desperation and a lack of other opportunities for employment. In other cases, they are forced into prostitution by others. In some cases, people are enslaved and forced to be prostitutes.

Dans les faits, n’est-ce pas plutôt par manque de choix? La très grande majorité des personnes qui se prostituent ont été sexuellement agressées et très souvent en bas âge. Est-ce que cela doit être considéré dans notre réflexion?

Il est vrai que pour un petit nombre d’entre elles, la prostitution est un choix, un mode de vie qu’elles ont accepté. Une prostitution de luxe où la prostituée garde le contrôle de son corps et est capable de mettre ses limites face aux clients. Mais ce n’est qu’une faible minorité. Peut-on accepter de légaliser la prostitution, sachant que la très grande majorité va en subir les tourments?

Une étude menée dans cinq pays par la CATW, au cours de laquelle cent quarante-six victimes de la traite internationale et de la prostitution locale ont été interrogées, montre que 80 % de ces femmes ont subi des violences physiques de la part des proxénètes et des clients avec des conséquences multiples sur leur état de santé (Raymond et al : 2002)

Une femme qui était dans la prostitution ambulante a déclaré : « Le chauffeur joue en quelque sorte le rôle de garde du corps. Vous deviez appeler à votre arrivée, pour assurer que tout allait bien. Mais personne ne se tenait derrière la porte lorsque vous étiez à l’intérieur, alors n’importe quoi pouvait se passer. »

Les études menées par la CATW ont révélé que même les caméras de surveillance dans les établissements de prostitution ne servent qu’à protéger les établissements. La protection des femmes contre les abus est secondaire voire sans importance.
